Hey Beth….

Yeah.

"RFF" really stands out like a fool when we watch his team play - and lose - the same way over and over and over again.

Some poster did a drive-by once where he said McCaffery was by far the best of the applicants after Lickliter was fired. I still wish he'd come back and give insight on who else applied.

I do put the odds around even money that he leaves next year.

Even if Krikke and Perkins stayed another year (unlikely), the Calvary isn’t coming that will get this team a sniff of an NCAA tournament. So even if he had another year to turn it around, he wouldn’t be able to.

It is every year.

Eastern Iowa fans are lame.

In men's hoops, yes. I have admitted I haven't been to a game yet this year. I'm not actively "boycotting" the team but I just don't care as much. Had season tickets just a few years ago. I'm sure I'll be at a few this year but I would much rather go to the women's games.

I'm excited about the young guys but this is 100% a rebuilding year.

Edit- point being that we have one of the best fanbases for football, wrestling, women's basketball. Two of those play in the same arena as the men's basketball team. It isn't the fans or the arena that is the problem.

Do your own research and get back to us.

Being realistic … every team will be facing a “rebuilding year” … almost every season… And with the portal and grad transfers and NIL … a coach has to be able to mix and match youth with experience …

However we slice and dice it.. Fran has peaked and is simply not getting it done. The program has grown stale and fan apathy continues to grow and will only get worse …

The contrast with all the buzz created by Bluder's program and CC doesn't help

I think a lot of this commentary is a bit unfair.

I'm not going to defend Fran's red faced antics. It's not a great look on the sidelines. He's played his sons over better players, but many a father would do exactly the same so it's hard for me to fault him for that.

I think what's getting lost here is that Iowa has been in the top half of the B1G for most of the last 10 years. He's had them in the tournament 7 of those. Tournament results have been disappointing, but fans of most programs would say the same.

This is the first really down year in a long time. It should have been totally expected given that this is basically last year's team without its 2 best players by far with a few freshmen added in. Fran sees this and has made more adjustments to the starting 5 in these first few weeks than he ever has. I think there's one he hasn't made that would probably ingratiate him with the base, but he's moving players around.

I think Fran leaves after this year because he wants to, not because he'll be forced to. I think his record at Iowa is something that is solid, if not spectacular. Certainly nothing that should/would warrant getting replaced.

Yeah he has tinkered with the starting lineup but he’s made it worse in my opinion. I agree he should start freeman but he benches Bowen instead of benching pat like any coach that wasn’t his dad would do.
College basketball is guard dominant and Fran continues to plug away with slow out of position players.
What’s his next move, bench Perkins and start dix so we can have a taller, slow all white lineup.

It's not last years team at all, 7 or 8 of the top 11 are either new players or guys that never played last year.

Huh?

The top 7 players in order of minutes played are:

Krikke
Perkins
PMac
Sandfort
Bowen
Dix
Freeman

5 of the top 6 were starters or played significant minutes last year. Neither Perkins, Sandfort, nor Pmac appear to have improved and Bowen's improvement appears marginal. Dix needs to be more confident and aggressive.

Krikke was a poor replacement for Rebraca who was a steady inside scoring and rebounding presence. Nobody on this team is close to what KM brought defensively or offensively. Teams don't gameplan for anyone in the current lineup.

Inserting Freeman the last game was a good first step, but this team is sorely lacking anyone who can both defend and score at the wings/guards.

I'm confused how you think this refutes what I said?

Even if you count Dix who didn't play much, 7 of the 11 guys seeing minutes this year are either new or didn't play any meaningful minutes last season.

There's 6 players seeing minutes this season who weren't on the roster last year.

The leading scorer is a new player and he's the biggest factor on the team on both ends.

Fans are tired of watching a team that routinely gets BLOWN OUT, if they can't make their 3s.

Relying on shooting a high percentage, bad defense/rebounding, and limited guard players.... That's how you fail at the NCAA tournament, despite having ALL TIME players like Luka and the Murray's.

I've turned into a casual observer that is fine with turning off the game each time we get blown out. Looking forward to the next coach.

I think he is refuting it because you are talking out of both sides of your mouth a bit. You can't say "meaningful minutes last season" then say "minute this season". Brauns and Pryce aren't playing "meaningful minutes at all". Five of the top six guys in minutes playing this year are from last years team, so you are both technically correct, you're just using different stats to be correct. Five of the top six and missing the two best players is correct, and five of the top 9 players in minutes are new. See, let's get along.

Just Krikke and Freeman alone make it a completely different team.

I'm not going to check his minutes for this year because it's early December but Freeman is a starter now. He's clearly playing more than Dix or Bowen.

This is not basically the same team from last year minus two best players.

Everyone has a new team every year to be sure, and nowadays with the portal, it's total crap.
But this is the same thing we see every year, just not as cohesive because they're young. The look like an ink-blot test right now and that's Fran's fault.
I do think there is talent on the roster but it doesn't play together AT ALL. And we can all throw up in our mouths when we watch the defensive end. Again, it's Fran. Thanks for picking us off the floor from Lick, but I've been ready to move on for about four years now, and this year I find myself not even really caring to watch. That makes me feel bad for the kids who are working. Yeah, they aren't going to care about me, but I think there are many, many others feeling a similar way to me.
