Hey Beth….

Just Krikke and Freeman alone make it a completely different team.

I'm not going to check his minutes for this year because it's early December but Freeman is a starter now. He's clearly playing more than Dix or Bowen.

This is not basically the same team from last year minus two best players.
I think you are just confusing yourself at this point. We return 5 of our top 6 players from last years team in minutes right now, that's more than a ton of schools. Krikke and Freeman are the ONLY guys getting meaningful minutes at this point that are different from last years team. Who cares though, we suck.

Relax, if you're confused it's fine to admit it.

I'll explain one more time real simply.

Ben Krikke is the leading scorer on this year's team.

Ben Krikke was not on the Iowa hawkeyes last year.

You can't have a new player be the leading scorer and say it's the same group of players from the previous season.

Therefore the statement that this is basically the same team as last year minus the best players is untrue.

It's basic logic.

Please let me know if you disagree with any of this?

I'm here to help.

His original statement - "It should have been totally expected given that this is basically last year's team without its 2 best players by far with a few freshmen added in."

Your original statement - "It's not last years team at all, 7 or 8 of the top 11 are either new players or guys that never played last year." Clearly, you were way more off on this one. Thus my confusion why you keep arguing an original point that you sounded extremely stupid on. I was just trying to be nice to one of the dumber people on here, I guess this is what I get.

Somebody's got hurt feelings.

Everyone has a new team every year to be sure, and nowadays with the portal, it's total crap.
But this is the same thing we see every year, just not as cohesive because they're young. The look like an ink-blot test right now and that's Fran's fault.
I do think there is talent on the roster but it doesn't play together AT ALL. And we can all throw up in our mouths when we watch the defensive end. Again, it's Fran. Thanks for picking us off the floor from Lick, but I've been ready to move on for about four years now, and this year I find myself not even really caring to watch. That makes me feel bad for the kids who are working. Yeah, they aren't going to care about me, but I think there are many, many others feeling a similar way to me.
He lost me after the Richmond game 2 years ago. At the same time I've been a little apathetic and if he is here next season it makes sense and I honestly don't think I'd care.
Unfortunately sideline antics aside if you look at what hes done here record wise, tourney apps, combined with his current contract length I dont think there is a logical way you can fire him.
However if he stepped down I wouldn't be upset about it.

I think a lot of this commentary is a bit unfair.

I'm not going to defend Fran's red faced antics. It's not a great look on the sidelines. He's played his sons over better players, but many a father would do exactly the same so it's hard for me to fault him for that.

I think what's getting lost here is that Iowa has been in the top half of the B1G for most of the last 10 years. He's had them in the tournament 7 of those. Tournament results have been disappointing, but fans of most programs would say the same.

This is the first really down year in a long time. It should have been totally expected given that this is basically last year's team without its 2 best players by far with a few freshmen added in. Fran sees this and has made more adjustments to the starting 5 in these first few weeks than he ever has. I think there's one he hasn't made that would probably ingratiate him with the base, but he's moving players around.

I think Fran leaves after this year because he wants to, not because he'll be forced to. I think his record at Iowa is something that is solid, if not spectacular. Certainly nothing that should/would warrant getting replaced.
As frustrated and disappointed as I am with Iowa basketball at this moment, I was thinking pretty much the same thing the other day and agree with most of this.

The transfer portal and NIL certainly have changed how coaches build winning teams, for better or worse. I’m not sure Fran has adapted to that reality.

I also look at what the new(er) coach has accomplished at ISU and I get frustrated again.
