House Republicans overwhelmingly vote to support a Confederate monument at Arlington National Cemetery

Republicans: Remember, Lincoln freed the slaves and he was a Republican. Democrats are the real racists.

Also Republicans: It's our heritage!

F***ing morons

I’m an American so it kicks ass.

The soldiers of the Confederate States of America were not, so they’re traitors and shouldn’t be honored.

Do you have any difficult questions to ask?

95Hawk,

You're not taking the full measure of this. Men are not infallible. Your outrage is decidedly selective.

You say that the founding fathers and patriots "kick ass". Are you aware that many of those men enslaved other people? Are you aware that they fought against the ruling government who offered freedom to enslaved people if they joined the fight against the rebellion?

Point one. Support for Confederates as history is stealth racism. Lazy people look at Lee and ignore what he truly said. He was racist.

Point 2. Ignoring the US role in the Ukraine war is just lazy partisan politics. Most of the experts here that link being reticent about
supporting the war With being pro Putin are lazy partisans and know nothing about a nation with a GDP of 5k and ignore even US corruption.
The war was fought for financial reasons; slavery was used as its justification.

Lazy people look at Grant and ignore what he said and did.

This a man who ‘bought’ a black man from his FIL and said his beliefs at the time were “…not even what could be called antislavery.”

Victors write history books, like 83Hawk said. Doesn’t mean they’re not full of lies.

So now you hate the Founding Fathers?

It’s so hard to keep up with your outrage.

Keeping spinning and deflecting. I will disengage at this time.

Why are Republicans so determined to support the losers who attempted to destroy this country?
The civil war and the confederacy are part of our history, why would you and others deny history? Destroy this country? LOL.

The south succeeded from the Union in order to survive, the North attacked them in order to force them into living under a regime they clearly did not want to be part of.

Arlington is a site where soldiers are buried from both sides of that war, who are you to say they can't have a monument to honor their dead?

I didn't say that.

And it's very clear that you now choose to "disengage at this time".

That's because things just became decidedly inconvenient and uncomfortable for you.

I'll ask again though.

You say that the founding fathers and patriots "kick ass". Are you aware that many of those men enslaved other people? Are you aware that they fought against the ruling government who offered freedom to enslaved people if they joined the fight against the rebellion?

Do you lack self-awareness to understand that your only vehicle for engagement on this platform is to re-direct questions and obfuscate when you’re backed into a corner?

That’s why I opt to disengage.

Good day, sir.

That is literally what YOU are doing right now.

As you previously stated... "It’s not a difficult question to answer."

But you and I both know that you can't reconcile your selective outrage on this.

Third try.

You say that the founding fathers and patriots "kick ass". Are you aware that many of those men enslaved other people? Are you aware that they fought against the ruling government who offered freedom to enslaved people if they joined the fight against the rebellion?

It’s quite frustrating when someone responds to a question with a re-direct or a new question, isn’t it?

What are your feelings about that kind of engagement?

I never said they committed treason against the United States. Learn to read. They did commit treason (against Britain). That is a universally acknowledged fact. That is the ONLY "point" I am making. But I'm not surprised there are posters who choose to go off on a tangent.
Lol

Not necessarily. For hundreds of years weve been fed the line it was about states rights

Few in the south actually owned slaves thus the financial piece is partial.

We also get to write that the Ukraine war iscabout one crazy man who wants the old ussr back. It nakes some on here feel better.

Whether or not a southerner owned slaves, slavery itself was central to nearly every aspect of southern society and economy. It was overwhelmingly why the South lagged badly behind the North in industrialization, which made them more and more reliant on agriculture, which in turn made them more reliant of slavery for a cheap labor force. To be somebody in Southern society, it was nearly impossible to be somebody if you didn't own slaves - if only for appearances.

If not for slavery, most of the things that distinguished the South from the North would have been far less of note. Northern states were as passionate about state's rights as southern ones.

Not really. I’m just asking questions.

As Northern stated: the hypocrisy is full-up in this thread. He just doesn’t understand irony.

This thread reveals that your benchmarks for historical grievances are inconsistent.

I'll engage. Yes and yes.

Now, do you believe the Founding Fathers are traitors and should be treated as such with regard to memorials? Do you believe confederates are heros and should be treated as such with regard to memorials?

And why won't you answer Torbee's questions? LOL - j/k. We know why. It's because you're a pussy.

The founding fathers were traitors. That's not even debatable. No issues with memorials.

I further have no problems with states memorializing their war dead.

Torbee's question? Torbee is the equivalent to that sticky crud that gets all stuck up in the crevices of your shoe sole. I pay him little attention.

We are the nation born from said rebellion and the leaders of it are our founding fathers. The Confederacy was the enemy of said new nation and its fighters, traitors to it. The 2024 GOP is in the same realm as the 1860 Confederacy to what it's attempting to do to our Federal government today with events like January 6th and the ongoing attempts to undermine the rule of law.

I mean: we went from the GOP ending slavery and keeping the union together in the 1860’s to the GOP embracing the confederate flag and CSA soldiers as heroes today.

So. Like that consistency?
The Confederacy didn't lose the Civil War and Trump didn't lose the 2020 election. In both case it was stolen. That's why we need these monuments. Duh. Why can't you libs pay attention.

So you must believe confederates are traitors too as that only stands to reason. But, then again, you've never been one to let reason get in the way.

You are OK with states recognizing war traitors? You would be OK with NY recognizing the Rozenbergs, for instance?

And GTFO with that nonsense. You try to ignore Torbee and me and others because your ignorance gets exposed with straight forward questions. Your the only one foolish enough to buy that BS.
