What success did Fran have prior to when we hired him? We don’t know what Devries would do at Iowa, but he’s having the same success as Fran was prior to hiring him. Problem is, we know now that Fran has pretty much reached his ceiling. And idk if he would come, but I’ll guarantee he’d think long and hard about it!

The McCaffery's are running themselves out of town. DeVries would be in Iowa City in a heartbeat if the position opened up. That is a fact.
I heard that Fran isn't going to hang it up until he holds the all-time world record for #5 seed losses to a #12 or #13 seed. He already has 4 with Iowa alone, so he's probably getting close. Too bad the 2020 BTT was canceled; I guess fate robbed him of another one. If there's any coach that can do it, it's Fran, and if there's any school that will allow him to do it, it's Iowa....
I guess you just keep sucking fran off for his .500 BIG records and consecutive trips to the tourney. Some of us want a little more after 13 years.
13 years. Not a single sweet 16. An AD with balls would have him on a very short fuse.

After a sweet 16 win won't have to worry about the question, you really think Fran can take this prgram any farther or just making the ncaa's is good.
Well I think the Iowa program could be better than now. I mean a tougher defensive coach and better defense alone gives the hawks 5 more wins.

It would be a hard question to ask after a tournament win of any kind…because those have been about non-existent! So I guess we’re left discussing it after losses.
Iowa shot 4-17 from three today. How many of those did Fran miss? Recently, we lost two games in a row where we shot 6-52 from three. Fran didn’t miss two free throws at the end of the game. That was Perkins. Sometimes players lose games. That was the case today. I thought our press gave them fits. We didn’t shoot well from three and made some uncharacteristic turnovers. I didn’t see Fran turn it over either. I racked my brain to think of a coaching decision or decisions that cost us the game. Couldn’t come up with one!
And then you lose the prolific offense. Lickliter's teams played excellent defense. Held teams to like 65 points...then only scored 50 themselves.
Fran is doing just as well as Tom Davis. Just as well as historically the program has done or better...

So you are saying there is absolutely no way Iowa can ever be better than they are now? That they can never even go to a Sweet 16?
That whoever replaces Fran will automatically run the program into the ground?
Ill take a stab at this. Fran gives zero shits about defense, which makes us a 1 trick pony. It’s extremely rare for us to win the tight, low scoring, dog fight games similar to todays. You know why? Because when it comes down to the end it’s rare we get the stops to win. That’s why it’s hit 3’s and hopefully win, because we can’t defend. That’s a coaching issue plain and simple.

Frans defensive philosophy is hoping the other team missed wide open 3's. Unfortunately OSU hit their WIDE open 3's at end of game.
If the rational among us agree that one has to judge a coach over, say, 100 games, not one, why do these “Still want him” threads only show up after losses? Shouldn’t such a thread not be tied to the result of one game? Shouldn’t there be such a thread after a win? Or, say, on a day with no game? Or in May?

We got rid of Tom Davis & replaced him with the wonder boy, Steve Alford, who was supposed to take us to that next level. Instead, we ended up with ever lasting memories of Pierre Pierce & Northwestern State.
We hired the 2007 National Coach of the Year, Todd Lickliter, who almost destroyed the program.
2020-21 was Fran's best team when we were a #2 seed and we still couldn't make the 2nd weekend. Garza, Wieskamp, Fredrick, JBo and the Murray twins highlighted that team. And before anyone says "Fran should have played Keegan more," in 24 minutes vs 7 seed Oregon, he was 1-5 from 3 and 2 for 9 overall in that 15 point loss to Oregon.
I don't know what the answer is other than if I were the AD, I would have forced Fran to fix the defense a long time ago. But I am not.
And as long as Barta is around, Fran will be around.

4…and then a giant turd laid in the tourney that matters most. Do the other 12 yrs now! There really is no argument you could make for frans teams being successful in the postseason. Hate to tell ya, but once in 13 years is an outlier. We’ve given him plenty of time.
100 games? We’re judging over 13 freaking years! So ya, he’s not exactly being judged based off 1 game. Such a stupid argument. If being 500 in the BIG, winning 20 games, and just getting into the tournament was the goal every year, then hell ya Frans doing awesome.

You do realize we rarely go deep in the shot clock so there are many more possessions for the opponents. Would you rather watch Iowa basketball take the Iowa football philosophy? I actually like watching Iowa play. Too bad you don’t! lol
Yes, it’s crazy but I prefer a coach who regularly makes the NCAA, finishes in the top half of the Big and plays an exciting style of ball with consistent AllAmerican players. FU.
