How much of next year will be sacrificed on Cade 'rounding into shape' ?

Obsessed, cute….obsessed with pointing out shortsightedness in those who literally don’t realize how much worse it could be/should be if they only liked left or right? Sure I’ll accept that.

Lincoln Riley is a well respected, super easy example that people can’t explain away, no matter how much they’d like to…..though you already knew that didn’t you…

Again are you Marcos dad? Is that why you are advising him to leave?
Yes. I’m Marcos dad. Got me. Again, you don’t understand the portal today. If Marco sees he’s never going to even get a chance kids transfer. It’s just a fact. When you have the worst offense in college football 3 years running and you see the backup QB play I don’t know what to tell you.

I think any rational human being who watches Iowa football would advise Marco to leave.

It will all depend on the new OC and the timing of his hiring.

What I totally expect is that the new OC won't be named until after the bowl game, but whenever he is named, it will likely be someone in house or someone nobody has ever heard of and wouldn't be hired at any other P5 program as OC. In that case, I expect nothing to change. DH will get all the bowl prep snaps and he will be the answer in 2024 for a yet-again injured Cade.

In my fantasy world, the new OC will be named in the next few weeks, and it is someone with credibility. While I wouldn't expect him to take over coaching duties for the bowl game, I think he could at least have a conversation with DH and encourage him to transfer to a D-III school so that Iowa can move forward with QB development for the future. That way ML can get all the bowl prep and play in the Citrus Bowl. I would expect this new fantasy OC to bring in an experienced, talented QB from a G5 program (there are a LOT of good QB's playing at that level) or someone from a P5 program unhappy with his situation for whatever reason. I'm ok with Cade being the assumed QB1, with ML and the transfer being well-prepared to play and/or take over in '25.

No reason that couldn’t happen.

Good fan….look Marco, I don’t know you or anything about your dreams or goals, but I’m pissed because my team only wins 10 games and I want my coaches fired, to leave or “pay the price” for not doing better…

LOL

I agree it's a big concern. Thats why if Marco has any potential at all he needs be the starter now for bowl prep. Bc you can't keep trotting out Hill. He's not the future anyway

If Marco isn't the answer (at 2nd string and 1st if cade goes down), then you have to hit the portal hard. But it would be nice if Marco was the guy so you're spending that NIL elsewhere
Hate to burst your bubble, but outside of an injury, there is no way in hell anyone except Hill gets meaningful bowl reps. And Hill might not be a great QB, but he has been shown to be very durable. 🙂

Since his practice time will be limited, his mobility questionable and two years removed from meaningful competition. Did I mention his suspect track record of injury? Not optimistic and this is no rag on CM but simply the state of the offensive fb situation at Iowa. NIL money better spent elsewhere?
Cam Ward one time ftw?............

Totally agree - just my hope. Idk If I can watch Hill trot out there again.

The offense is already handicapped as it is. No need to keep having a slow, immobile, inaccurate, turnover machine out there. I don't think Hill has 1 good quality outside of being "durable".

I'll buy the argument it was best to start him for remainder of season, but now the regular season is over....he's not your future... he's even more detrimental to the offense...so you need to give value bowl prep time to someone else. And that seems to be ML. See what he's got with a month of starter practice time. I really don't see how it can get any worse than Hill

Again, you said a true frosh should transfer. It’s petty…let’s call it what it is. You know, because he didn’t get a chance…

And sure, like you being Marcos dad, I don’t get it…

I do enjoy when a dialogue comes together 😊

You never answer. Ever. Should Deacon get the practice reps and be the QB in the bowl game. Just answer the question man. It’s not that hard. Or it it just coach speak about the extra reps and how valuable they are for the young guys? I’m just saying the writing is on the wall if Deacon starts. It shows what the coaches think of him.

Oh it’s my decision now, super, then I need to go to practice and see everyone practice. I would definitely play the guy that practices the best..

So there is your answer…not hard at all.

By the way, do u know what I did while not posting here? Read other teams boards. Every coach plays the wrong damn kids.

And they all, Rutgers fans, PU fans, Minne fans couldn’t understand why they didn’t play a different QB…

There is a certain segment of every fanbase that leaps to that.

Now with that said, it’s sad we don’t have a better QB than him 🤪

I think that Kirk views the bowl game as more of a reward for the players. I don't know that he considers next year at all in his personnel decisions.

Totally Agree! The sad part of this is that Kirk has already doubled down on Cade as the starter next year and Deacon will then be the backup again. No faith in Cade staying healthy and or we don’t know if he can even play anymore. There is no help at the offensive line or WR coming. The offensive line does get better just because DeJong is leaving. Kirk is an old guy that isn’t go to change. It sucks and I thought was quite a bit embarrassing watching and listening to game. Everyone knew we counted t score. The offense is historically bad and the entire country knows it besides Kirk. It’s one big joke.

Well, the offensive line should perform better from the outset of the season and he should have some established play makers so that should help him out a bit. I think the defense will be on par with the last 3 years so he will still have that support. Phil has proven to me he can reload at different positions and coach players up.

I am concerned with his ability to stay healthy though and I just don't think running around a lot is going to be a feature for him. Hopefully he can at least move around enough to avoid the rush and buy some time for his receivers, but I don't see him rushing for 50 yards a game.
What makes you believe the oline will be better from the outset?

It’s time to admit the Cade experiment failed and move on. It’s malpractice to count on him next year. Need to kick the wheels on other portal QBs.
If we get another QB in the portal Lainez will be in the portal the next day. I think he has a bright future as Iowa's starting quarterback.

maybe lainez leads us to 21-0 win, inhales 2nd hand pot smoke, and deacon’s back in saddle in time for
next season

Kirk just said he’s STILL convinced Hill gives us the best chance to win.

Not sure #2 or #3 see reps in the bowl after hearing that 😔

Now, why wouldn’t Marco leave as well? He’ll be into his 3rd year before even considered being given a chance to be the starter, with Cade coming back next season.
Best chance to win this year?

Maybe it'll play out like Ruddock and Beathard. Lainez will threaten to leave and Kirk will make him the starter.

Labas was able to get the reps in the bowl game prep and looked better than Deacon has looked all season. Give Marco the reps and see what happens. He’s had a full season now. If he’s not better than Deacon he’s not the guy. That just can’t be true.

This next month will be huge - both for next season and really the remainder of Kirk's tenure. With the transfer portal officially opening tomorrow, I really REALLY hope you're wrong and we don't have to wait until after the bowl game to name the new OC. The safe option imo is Chryst - tho I haven't heard anything that he's interested other than us tossing his name out there.

I remain intrigued that Lainez passed Labas on the depth chart during the season - not something that Iowa's typically done for reserve spots outside of injury midseason.

Typically, I believe Iowa has used the opening couple of weeks of bowl prep as basically a back to basics/mini-camp and they open up the reps to let guys work out more. Let the banged up guys heal up, reward the guys who worked hard all season, etc. Ideally, Kirk lets has a mini-QB comp and let things play out.

With luck - we see a new OC named before christmas; that's my hope at least.

You need to stop dude. Is Marco more mobile and accurate than Hill? Why in the hell doesn't another QB even get some snaps under KF? KF is HOF but his handling of QBs is just embrassing. Go Hawks.

Oh, so you think Marco should transfer too? Are you his uncle then ?

And if he doesn’t then what? Does it mean he is dumb? Or ok with the decision? Knew he wasn’t ready? Not hungry?

What?!

Exactly, why wouldn’t he leave? If he doesn’t I’ll assume he actually didn’t think he was ready…LOL. See how that works.

Right. If he sticks around he knows he’s not deserving of playing time but wants to stay on scholarship and continue on being a career backup.

That leads us to the recruiting conversation, of course.
