How's Keegan Doing?

Nowhere near any consensus pick. He averaged similar points as a freshman as many other former Iowa guys who never made the NBA.

Where are Weiskamp and Garza playing now? What were their freshman numbers?
Relevance to

“Keegan had much higher upside, but in his Freshman year, he most assuredly was neither a "star", nor a future NBA draft pick.”

People have shared national links showing Keegan’s projection as an NBA draft pick after his freshman year. What others averaged their freshman year is irrelevant. Where they play now is also irrelevant.

Brown and Fox really pushed him during the off season. I really like Sabonis as the on court coach. he is constantly engaging Murray and its paying off.

What do you think about Sabonis, Fox and Keegan being referred to as the "Big 3" in Sacramento? ;)

Dang, Keegan is having a great 2nd year so far.

Id like to see it translate to sustainability… too many times I have watched that frnachise fail on the court and management levels. Hopefully they continue to build. The next move should be a replacement for Barnes.

We're still a couple of months from the trade deadline. Monte' has been good so far building around Fox and Sabonis. Will he "Swing for the fence?" I don't think so, because the two teams I've heard that have an interest in getting Keegan (Being Toronto and Chicago), will be disappointed because at this point, Keegan is pretty much off the table. The Kings just don't have the trade value for a Kyle Kuzma, OG, Siakam, or Levine outside of Keegan IMO. Would have to give up future draft picks, maybe some cash, who knows what McNair will do?

Yeah.. I think their best bet is riding this season...and cutting payroll next year. I have no idea why they signed BArnes for another 3 years... 17 mil/ 18 / 19 over the next three years. The production just isnt there. Same with Huerter who isnt the dagger they thought he would be. IF they were to make a move, I can see them packaging Monk. He is in his final year and can ball.

I agree with you on Barnes. He did have 19 that last game, but his production has been down and I don't think he had a rebound last game either. He's fairly good on defense. Huerter has been down but had 9 the last game. He has been grabbing some boards. As far as Monk goes, I think he's vital to the Kings as the 6th man. His high energy along with instant offense, and being great in the pick and roll, will keep him in Sac, unless Monte' makes a big move. I'd hate to lose Monk.

Yeah Barnes seems to be nearing the end of his career and his production is showing it. That was absolutely crazy to sign him for that much and 3 more years. The $$ amount is more mind-boggling than the 3 years though

All the talk of potential and Keegan sitting FR year - Both Kirk and Fran generally don't go with the idea of starting a very talented but not developed player so he can grow and get better faster. May not be as good a team to start the season but by the end, the team is stronger. Look at Marco vs Hill. Now, I am surprised Fran is playing the freshman this year so much, tho.

Oh, right. Wieskamp put up better freshman numbers. I forgot that part...
Not sure how you forgot that. Relevance to the point under discussion? Still none. Man I remember Michael Paynes freshman stats…. Just as relevant as Weezy. Unlike you to be off like this.

Who also did not end up an NBA franchise player.

Fran did not play Keegan as much, because he needed to learn the game and play defense.

Hell, the Kings coach even said in a presser in Keegan's first year, that "his path is different" in comparing him to other rookies. If he screws up, I pull him out of the game, while those other 1st year players can play more minutes for other teams. That's pretty comparable to Fran playing more experienced players as well. But all the Fran-bashers want to claim that Keegan was a superstar his first year, which simply was not the case.

Fran and the coaches certainly had a role in turning Keegan into the player he was his soph year; Keegan and his current coaches and teammates are developing him into a next-level player. Has nothing to do with his 1st year at Iowa minutes. Keegan (and Kris) were not ready to be star players you form your team around their first years. That's all.

Connor was not as big a scoring threat, but made lots of the players around him, better, because he understood the game better even though he was not (and never will be) as talented a player. Lots of teams have players like that, who glue the team together well, even though they, themselves, are not superstars.

I don't disagree with most of that. That wasn't what the topic was. Keegan was showing up on multiple national 'mock drafts' his freshman year with those numbers. No issues with Connor that year........Patrick this year....well maybe........

The NBA drafts multiple players based on potential, not numbers.

"Oooh...."mock drafts"!!!!

He put up decent freshman numbers; he was not going to be an NBA draft pick with those numbers. He more than tripled his point output the next year."

That's all I've been stating.

And Fran and the coaches certainly deserve some of the credit for the jump Keegan made his soph year.

Kings vs Celts tonite on nbaTV.
Celts lost a shootout in OT last nite to a red hot splash twins..Golden St. Tatum turned his ankle ..will be gimpy. Porzingas out. Celts have lost 4 in row on road. Ripe for the picking.
Everyone set your DVRs. Be ready for a tired but great Celtics team. Go Kings!

Yeah, Fran has always demanded defense of his players. This is well established fact.

Another clown who never made a layup or ran a lap defending McCaffery.

Yeah! They didn't play him or his twin brother enough freshman year and this ... really helped them blossom.

Watching Space Cadet McCaffery throw up gangly runner after gangly runner really lit a fire under their asses, I suppose.

Portland coach is screwing up sitting Kris imo.
They aren't winning anything this year. Kris needs minutes to feel the game. He's showing flashes when they give hjm more than 2 minutes. Lol
This is a head thing for him, he has the tools and talent.
Sitting him is not going to do it. Throw him to the wolves, and let him take his lumps. He's going to go off at some point and once he does, he's fixed.
Keegan had big growing pains last year, coach had faith. It's paying rewards now.
Edit to say: it paid rewards last year too. Keegan was pretty hit or miss the entire first half of last year. Coach stuck with him and gave him confidence.
