Good example of bad defense. The Kings led 41-38 after the 1st quarter and now trail 113-90 after 3 quarters. Ugly 26 point swing.
Fairly certain that when scouting Keegan that they didn’t look at other players stats and say ‘gee, those players with different skill sets and size haven’t panned out’LOLWUT? Go compare their freshman stats to Keegan's.
Both ended up being top tier Big Ten players. Neither has blossomed into an NBA star.
What are you saying? That Garza and Weiskamp are totally irrelevant to any discussion about Keegan? That's just crazy talk man. 🤪Fairly certain that when scouting Keegan that they didn’t look at other players stats and say ‘gee, those players with different skill sets and size haven’t panned out’
You don’t normally keep doubling down whe you are off point like you are on this subject.
Most of Connors assists were stationary entry passes to a guy who was also stationary and was an automatic bucket.Yep. That year:
Keegan:
7.2 PPG
0.5 APG
0.6 TOPG
0.83 AST/TO ratio
5.1 RPG
Connor:
3.3 PPG
3.6 APG
1.0 TOPG
3.6:1 AST/TO ratio
3.1 RPG
So Keegan, w/ 0.5 APG was worth about 8.2 PPG
Connor w/ 3.6 AGP was worth about 10.5 PPG
Keegan averaged 18 min/game; Connor 23 min/game
Pretty even, I'd say; and the extra assists and better AST/TO ratio, you'd probably start Connor over Keegan that year.
Keegan made a HUGE jump the following year. Connor regressed that year; but bounced back to put up slightly better numbers the year after when Keegan entered the draft.
Keegan had much higher upside, but in his Freshman year, he most assuredly was neither a "star", nor a future NBA draft pick.
Most of Connors assists were stationary entry passes to a guy who was also stationary and was an automatic bucket.
Joes Place, give it up, guy. We all watched Keegan as a Freshman and it was clear he needed more minutes.
You’re right, no Hawkeye fan on Earth was clamoring for Keegan to get more minutes as a freshman. He wasn't putting up any better numbers than Connor, with similar minutes.
You're not remembering his freshman year play, you're biasing it based on his breakout soph year and NBA development.
I agree he was very good at entry feeds and a good passer in general but no other coach in the country would have kept Keegan on the bench for Connor given that roster.FWIW, Connor was routinely noted as an above-average post-feed passer by most play-by-play guys. Nothing flashy, but competent. He sucked at 3s until his last year, when he was at least decent.
And, if the recipient doesn't immediately score (e.g. has to dribble to make a move to get open) it is not an assist.
Connor was good a recognizing when the post player had position to score and got him the ball in position for the easy bucket. Something we are not really getting much of (yet) this year.
We actually are missing a good post-feeder this year. Bowen is flashier with the dribble than Connor ever was, but he gets a little penetration and then has no idea where to go with the ball.
That roster needed a post-feeder.I agree he was very good at entry feeds and a good passer in general but no other coach in the country would have kept Keegan on the bench for Connor given that roster.
No it needed defense same as the current one. That roster needed a post-feeder.
So does our current one.
Keegan with 21 points, 5 reb, 2 ast in 33 min tonight. Kings win. 120-105
Those comments are high praise from one of the greats. "Kevin Durant had high praise for Keegan postgame.
“He’s getting more confident each game, shooting the basketball at a high clip,” Durant said. “Long, athletic (and) he’s playing with more intensity on the defensive side of the ball as well. You can tell they trust him with those matchups. Like, just watching him play. He’s into the ball. He’s playing hard. He might get some fouls, but he’s playing aggressively on the defensive side of the ball, and I think that’s what’s getting his shot going to be honest. He’s going to be an all-around threat for them going forward for years and he’s a key part of what they’re doing right now.”

He's been working his tail off on the defensive side of the ball and more people are seeing it and appreciating the hard work. You can tell they trust him with those matchups.
These boards were full of folks saying he needed more minutes, his freshman year. It was clear he had the tools. He just needed every minute you could give him to get comfortable with the college game. Conner had a ceiling. He wasn't putting up any better numbers than Connor, with similar minutes.
You're not remembering his freshman year play, you're biasing it based on his breakout soph year and NBA development.
See!!! The Kings lost! So by extension this is why Keegan shouldn't have played more minutes his freshman year!! Joes Place was right all along!! 🤪Kings lose to Minny 110-98. Keegan with 20 points and 7 rebs. Huerter had 2 points.
