I am curious, why does the name Debbie or Debra get associated with Nebraska? I am in the dark on this?

Living in and growing up along the Mississippi river in Eastern Iowa, never heard til joining HR....
Should be pretty self evident. Start with fans calling them Nebby, then Debbie, lil debbie and then as I call them Debra, all derivations of the original Nebby. I find it hilarious myself!

Nebraska has several names that have been embellished by fans of opposing teams. Nebbie apparently has been migrated to Debbie & Debra to slam the masculinity of Nebraska and flat challenge their manhood.
Ya, 4-8 most years recently and a girlish defense will do that...
I'm a Nebraska hater with the best of 'em, but I'm even getting disgusted with these Debra threads.

Call Nebraska anything you want, but if what is true, Iowa will likely be in the Huskers rear view mirror sooner then later.
If Fran after 9 years can't fathom that defense and athletes win championships, there's really no reason to think Iowa will be anything but an after thought. His stubbornness to keep the status quo will eventually lead to his demise.

they used to be Nebbie. But since they are all a bunch of girls, they became Debbie.
I don't why but have had some NE fans take offense to being called Nebby. To me that's not an offensive name but some "not all" take it as an insult. Maybe it's just because they are getting beat by Iowa and think they are superior. Don't know why else they wouldn't like being called Nebby.
I think it originated here. I lived in Big Red country until I was out of college, have been a fan of ISU/Big Eight/Big 12 for about 60 years, never heard the term anywhere but here.
I come to HR for all of my Nebraska news.

Your post shows your predilection. Iowa State is kind of a dumpster fire. Loads of talent and nothing to show for it but a bunch of suspensions, a transfer, and likely several guys leaving. Minnesota had a decent year, but loses all everything Murphy. Nenraska hasn't done anything.
