What did Casey say? I didn’t see that interview?Casey beat Mendez at WNO this year and had a pretty disrespectful post match interview, IMO.

"Confidence in my training, I knew no matter what that he wasn't doing what I've been doing. Watching him walk around in here I could see that he wasn't confident coming in here and I knew it in the back of my mind. I knew I was working harder than him. Did a lot of weight training and other training in preparation for the match that that guy wasn't doing. Pulling a four-wheeler across a field, he wasn't doing that and I knew it."What did Casey say? It wouldn't really be that bad of an interview, were it not for the fact that Jesse agreed to wrestle even though he'd had limited time to train coming back from his knee surgery, so yeah he wasn't doing the things Casey was to train, because he just had surgery, yet still agreed to put himself out there and wrestle. Came across as more of an attack/put down on Jesse than him talking himself up to me.
Damn, puts things in perspective. It’s been a long time since ISU has been relevant. Kinda sucks, it’s good for wrestling as a hole when they are good. It meant a lot more to win a duel with them, when they didn’t suck.OK, so it's time for my riveting, unappreciated view of why Dresser and boys can't recruit the State of Iowa.
No high schooler remembers when ISU was good. Hell, these recruits dads were in junior high last time the Clones won a Natty. Most of the kids don't even remember when Cael was at ISU. And speaking of that, I hope Clone fans know where the blame points when they wonder why CS left...Jammie Freaking Pollard!!!!!!
Now the issue today. Metcalf/DSJ simply have no cred and can't finish the sale. Dresser laughs every time he cashes his check at the bank. The Hawks have owned the State and always will.
ISU might get a few out of Staters every now and then, but there are nearly a dozen programs around the country that have passed ISU and aren't looking back.
ISU isn't sniffing top ten with the current staff.
My view is that to be successful, you need the core of your team to be somewhat local... or have a group that's familiar with each other, like the Pennsylvania connection the Hawk team has with several being friends.Damn, puts things in perspective. You make ISU sound like a middle aged former athlete who’s “playing for the tie “. So look at the dilemma in Ames. Can't get the good Iowa kids, then you got guys scattered from all over the nation and even Russia and Cuba. Couple from Hawaii, Montana, Ohio, Maryland, New York, Pa. The kids have nothing in common with each other outside of wrestling practice. They're 100s of miles from friends and family.
Other than the appeal of $$$ thrown at him from a desperate ISU AD, I don't think Dresser realized just how much the Hawks dominate this State. At VTech, he could recruit quality kids a few hours from campus. Metcalf and DSJ just don't seem to be good closers. And the longer the top ten drought continues, it perpetuates itself.
ISU wrestling is in trouble. I'd argue it's almost as bad as it was under KJ. David Carr cannot singlehandedly save that program.
Clone wrestling will be going forward getting a few random mid level portal guys, and hoping like hell that the two Michigan 2022 recruits live up to their ranking. They need a "best case scenario" to become mediocre again.
When Sanderson was still in Ames, he could draw top level national recruits from his wrestling accolades. David Taylor was set to enroll at ISU.You make ISU sound like a middle aged former athlete who’s “playing for the tie “. You put things in perspective
YesIs Casey the one that beat Ayala a few years back? Or is it his brother. Think Ayala went up in weight for that one.
Cornell has guys from the following states:My view is that to be successful, you need the core of your team to be somewhat local... or have a group that's familiar with each other, like the Pennsylvania connection the Hawk team has with several being friends.

Thanks for proving my point...28 of the 40 man roster are from under a couple hundred mile radius. That's what I meant when I said "recruiting base".Cornell has guys from the following states:
NY: 10
OH: 4
PA: 7
CO: 2
NJ: 5
WI: 1
VT: 1
MI: 1
MN: 1
NE: 1
MD: 1
NH: 1
FL: 2
NV: 1
LA: 1
MO: 1
They seem to have one of the most cohesive teams around.
Elyria, OH is 350 miles from Ithaca. Urbana, OH is 500 miles from Ithaca. Brecksville, OH is 340 miles from Ithaca. Bellevue, OH is 400 miles from Ithaca. Syosset, NY is 250 miles from Ithaca. Conestoga, PA is 240 miles from Ithaca. Nashua, NH is 350 miles from Ithaca. Canonsburg, PA is 370 miles from Ithaca. Hanover, PA is 250 miles from Ithaca. Wantagh, NY is 250 miles from Ithaca. Essex, VT is 290 miles from Ithaca. Thanks for proving my point...28 of the 40 man roster are from under a couple hundred mile radius.
I'll give you that.Elyria, OH is 350 miles from Ithaca.
So, at least 23 out of the 40 man roster are not "from under a couple hundred mile radius." Maybe the Iowa definition of "somewhat local" is different than we have in the East, but using about 200 miles as the definition of "a couple" we get the above.
I think you'll find that most College Teams have similar roster makeup. They come from everywhere and bond when they have the same shared experience.Cornell has guys from the following states:
