Hunter Garvin

He’s got his jolly’s off trying “gotcha” moments towards me in the past. Pretty self important guy.
Of all people, you should take that as a compliment. Sometimes gobblin is the best way to locate the big Tom. Now that he located you, and assuming you don't get too cocky, should be easy to make him hoof it up and down 3 ravines to no avail.

P.S. I'm pretty new here, but I still like crabs. I think he's a closet Hawk and has that in your face Iowa Style. Not afraid of nothin, still rasslin after the whistle blows.

I think this is it, and I respect the tenacity, but I also think this could be an area of improvement for them. It might not be a huge deal, but it certainly isn't a good thing that there are several high profile former hawkeyes who have "bad blood" with the program. I'm hoping the transition for the current group goes smoother.
I think you just uncovered why Dresser added Metcalf and DSJ to his staff.

Even though it's rather obvious neither were prepared to coach or recruit, Dresser was counting on their resentment towards TnT to help him try and trash the Hawkeye program.

To date, it hasn't helped with national recruits or Iowa high schoolers.

I doubt too many elite Iowa kids give a crap that the Carews and the St John's are envious of the Brands Bros.

So dresser had this planned a year in advance to hire dsj at va tech because he knew he would get the ISU job and be able to exploit BGW that wasn’t in existence for recruits?!?!?!

You broke the secret code buddy.

Don’t ever change Mitch. You are a treasure to this board.

It's no secret that there has been a rift with some guys once they leave the program. It's a bummer, I hope the coaching staff is really working on this area as Gobblin said. I'm nobody's idea of an insider, so I have no idea.

Another Iowa State Treasure…

He hired the two ex Iowa wrestlers because he probably also wanted insight into the Iowa room. The wrestling club in NL looks like that just fell into his lap.

The resentment and envy that KD felt dated well back to the National Duals thing. I have a hard time believing KD didn't have better options from an experience standpoint than Metcalf and DSJ when they landed at VT. Pure coincidence they were Brand's wrestlers?

And the comment from Dresser a few years ago that he was recruiting a Iowa high schooler only to drive up the Iowa offer(maybe Schriever) cements the penis envy he has for the Hawks.

I can't wait for the Garvin commitment to ISU and the subsequent gloating from ISU fans how they stole a kid from Brands' back yard.

Well, I never would have imagined a scenario of you being in agreement with the entire Cyclone nation quite like this one. They can’t wait for that day, eithers.

Tom was influential in Metcalf getting the job at ISU. I know there was a one on one between Brands and Dresser where Tom promoted the hiring of Metcalf. Schwab and Brands families are still fairly close. BGW isn't so much "bad blood" as just a lot closer with DSJ then Brands & Co. All are super competitive and now rivals as coaches. The "bad blood" isn't quite as relevant as many think.

The Hawks still pump out guys that want to Coach, and not all of them can Coach at Iowa which would probably be their preference. It's a numbers game more or less, and some will probably think they deserve this or that over whomever. Just like every other business. So yeah there are going to be some hurt feelings sometimes.

At the end of the day they are all guys that wrestled at Iowa, and the vast majority had a good experience there I would think. It is what it is.

You're the dumb Jake that runs in to the first yelp and gets shot. Crablegs is the opposite of Iowa style. He's a clown troll. The seasoned Toms around here have seen through his shit for years. The dumb Jakes don't live long enough to figure it out or are too stupid to.

Funny, tho... Crabs gets ridiculed on the Clone forum for being a Hawk fan.

I may be in the extreme minority here, but I think he's just a diehard wrestling fan that loves a good argument.

I had never heard that DSJ had bad blood with the Iowa staff. What’s the story there?

This would be wonderful if true but it flies in the face of everything I understand to be true. Would be very happy to find out I’ve been wrong.

For the record, I was about the 20th gobbler to respond to all the yelping in here, not the first. I'll now yield the field back to all the seasoned Toms to keep strutting around. But I might try and sneak another jake gobble in later. Fun watching all the Toms puff up.

And you believe everything these teenage kids tell you? Lmao. Anyone have the why so serious son gif? Haha

I sure do believe them. They tell me more than their parents or coaches. You don’t know our situation and for you to act like you do is pretty presumptuous. You must have some horrible lying kids and poor relationships with them. I don’t. You know nothing that goes on at my house or with these wrestlers.

They’re some strange dudes/parents on this board that have strange family and coaching relationships and that’s why they talk to me and not you.

I don’t think I was bragging, but his leg riding was pretty unstoppable. He had his weaknesses obviously with not being able to gain weight and wrestling bigger kids that were cutting. He ruined Isaac Schimmels run at state on top. That was bitter sweet for him because he likes Isaac. Brooks Meyers got too strong for him and my kid started to lose to him. I’m not the greatest father, but our house is a place for wrestlers to unwind and wrestle for fun. That’s all I ever said. I have three others in and the house and one national champ that beat two triple crown winners, so get used to it.

You wouldn’t understand unless you were in the middle of this. I’m done with this conversation because nothing is understood by an outsider. It’s a wrestling house with no pressure. The kids talk to me about stuff they don’t talk to their parents about, BFD. We don’t push.

Edit: Not a mentor or a coach, just a friend. That sounds kinda creepy.

Spooner doesn’t care what I say anymore. He knows how I am. I want him to come over to my house some weekend and see who is in the house and what goes on.

He’s the the one that posted my kid made the podium. I didn’t post a damn thing. Anyone can look at the DM Register and see who was the top story on day one at state. Flat Effing Stanley.

I'm only coming if I can be in the presence of the beauty that is @SansSouci2. Otherwise...no thanks.

Souci was correct about HS kids being honest with a cool adult. My Dad was exactly this way with my circle of friends. I always trusted that my Dad would know what to do in ANY situation no matter how crazy and I came to find out most of my friends felt that way about my Dad too.
True story: I was 12 years old wrestling at 94lbs in 7th grade... my oldest brother wrestled at 112 lbs as a 9th grader so he was small for his age and my brother "Tyler" had been getting bullied by these guys for several months and they weren't going to stop...it was a case of my brother never fully "tucking tail", he would be respectful yet would never cower to them (Our Dad always taught us to stick up for ourselves and others, we all knew we had his permission to throw blows as long as we didn't start it) and I think that made them want to bully Tyler even more. Tyler and their ringleader even had 3 remediations with the principal that were supposed to help sort things out....THREE! Mr "ringleader" would just try to stare him down the whole time so things kept getting worse and finally they started telling Tyler and everyone else too how they're going to kick his ass at the dance (everybody would congregate at this pizza place afterwards with a large alley behind it). Tyler tells my Dad the latest and asks him if he'd drive my brother over to fight this guy afterwards so that he can make sure none of his friends jump in. I remember my Dad's response too "Yep, I'll go kid." BTW, this bully has about 6" and weight on my small "big" brother. So after the dance I was at the pizza place (we went to a 7th - 9th Jr High school) trying to figure out the best way to get my 1st french kiss off my little gf when somebody yelled "Tyler's here!" Everybody rushes outside and I see the crowd parting as Tyler walks through the center followed about 10 ft behind by my Dad towards "ringleader" whose jumping around like he's billy badass. I was so damn nervous I was shaking (prob why the details have always been clear). Tyler says "Here I am, now's your chance." My Dad steps inbetween and yells "GO!". At my age I thought my brother was DOMINANT....hindsight though he just took him down and controlled him while getting some 112 lb punches in. Billy badass starts yelling "lemme up! Get him off me!" One of his friends took one step into the center before he was ripped backwards by his hair curteousy of my Pops.....Tyler doesn't see that, but he still pauses and looks up at my Dad as if asking "should I let him up?" My Dad leans towards them and screams loud enough for everyone to hear... "He didn't have mercy on you!!!!! You don't have mercy on him!!! RIP HIS ****ING HEAD OFF!!!!" Hearing that like choked me up from the emotion of it, I think that was the first time I heard my Dad say the F word too. Then some lady from the pizza place walked through the kids and said "the cops are on their way!" My Dad quickly ducked his head while ushering Tyler out of there. Later I found out my Dad had parked 1/3 of mile down the road with my youngest brother Dusty in the car (my parents were divorced and it was my Dad's weekend). He told Dusty "Make sure you stay down" which at 8 years old I can guarantee he did. Even the teacher's at the school were telling me to tell my brother congratulations...that's how out of hand it was. My buddy Joe wrecked his car drunk, fled the scene, and was close enough to my Dad's that that's where he walked without me even being there, so yeah I think kids know when it's safe to talk to an adult about stuff.
PS. I had to wait 2 more months for my 1st kiss with her friend....lol
