What record does he finish with? How far do we get in the NCAA? People called for poor Dr. Tom's head. I would take him back in a heart beat. This is just another blaise, milque toast, oat meal, McAffery finish. In a sense, I feel for Garza. Oh well, number 6 seed or 9 seed here we come!

He would have played BJ and Roy about 10 minutes per game combined and started whatever slow white guards Dr Tom had kept deep on the bench. Iowa misses the NCAAs and loses in the first round of the NIT. BJ and Roy transfer to Michigan after the season. The end.

I lol’ed for real! But for real it’s 😔.. I’m not sure Fran could have got it done with my avatar either..

Given Fran's tendency to favor veterans and returning starters, his starting lineup in 1986-87 would likely have looked something like this, to start the season:

Bill Jones
Jeff Moe
Roy Marble
Al Lorenzen
Gerry Wright

When Wright got hurt, he would have been replaced in the starting lineup by Brad Lohaus.

Horton, Armstrong, Gamble come off the bench.

(I am basing this on data found sports-reference.com. Can't verify the accuracy, but likely pretty close.)

This is the type of shit that happens when HROT idiots post on the sports ball forums. And some of you idiots are eating it up. Shame on you.

Same results that Davis had. Davis was not the greatest coach that everyone thinks he was.
He was pretty damn good with X's and O's but not impressive at all with recruiting. His teams were consistently some of the best rebounding teams in the country, partly because they didn't contest a lot of 3's and sagged back into lane but still pretty good when you consider the lack of athletes they had. When scholarships started going to guys like jason bauer, marcelo gomes, leuhrsman, antonio ramos etc it was time for him to move on

Agreed, but I liked Ryan Luehrsmann. I’d take a Luey on my team every year. Where I believe Luehrsmann (and Jason Bauer) got into trouble was that too much was being asked of them beyond their capabilities. Mostly due to recruiting issues.

Many games under Dr Tom, Iowa lived and died by the press.

Unless Fran is capable of recruiting good enough players to overcome his coaching, there is no hope for Iowa hoops. We should be close to some anniversary of the NIT second place finish. Back to March Sadness.

I would guess there would be a major meltdown starting in late January and they would be hoping to avoid the play in game. Just like every other year Fran has had some talent.

Lack of athletes??? He had SEVEN guys who played in the NBA on that team. Of course those were Ravelings recruits but he did pull out a sweet 16 in his swan song as an FU on his way out the door.....

He wasn’t talking about the 86-87 team. He meant TD’s teams, in general, lacked high caliber athletes.

Not really a Dr Tom problem, more of an Iowa problem in general. When exactly have we been filled with athletes besides the few years Raveling was here?
