Beating a dead horse I know but I have such a problem with the Minnesota game. Iowa SHOULD be 19-12 (11-7) with an RPI in the mid 50's and SIX top 50 wins.. That would be lock and a 9-10 seed right now. Also would have been a double bye for BTT..

It's not about Omaha or Illinois or Nebraska for me because Iowa blew those opportunities fair and square. The missed call in the corner was absolutely the difference in the gopher game!

Play better before that and it's a non issue. Those calls should be expected and not come as a surprise. It always has been and always will be on the road in the B1G. Iowa is what it's record says it is and exactly where they should be. Don't lose to a D3 or whatever team earlier in the season and you can come to the same conclusion.

I get what the OP is saying but to be honest I'm more disappointed about giving up 98 to Omaha.

That was pretty inexcusable. Don't care how young you are.

Every team has gotten screwed over by the refs at the end of a game. Every team.

Should be expected?? Calls like that should be expected? Sorry not in the B10.. in fact just saw B10 officials get it right yesterday! Flattered to have the gophers over here shitting their pants about Iowas recent success tho.. all my buddies are gopher fans and the inferior complex is back to normal levels..

Is this your first year watching B1G basketball? If not, stop acting like it is. Congrats to Iowas recent surge. There is nothing remotely concerning about it for me through next season, but think whatever you wish.

But folks, we got other calls. You just can't know what the net is of all of it.

We played 31 games. No one game can be chosen as the one that made all the difference.
If you can point out another game where Iowa won or lose because of a single call I'm all ears!

You can't change it, so why dwell upon it. All you will do is drive yourself crazy.

Besides, as mentioned, there are other games where Iowa just plain gave wins away where calls didn't decide the outcome, shitty play did.

Can't change those either...

It's out of our hands unless we pull an out-of-Alford's-ass conference tournament title. The Maryland game probably guaranteed us a spot in the NIT. The UW collapse definitely guaranteed us a spot in the NIT. Today maybe we got a home game in the NIT. Fran's teams have never done well in the BTT. Maybe with a lot of new faces we reverse those fortunes and give the committee something to think about? A date in Dayton would be wonderful given the trajectory of the season. Either way, I'm going to get to watch my Hawkeyes play a few games after the conclusion of the regular season. We berated Alford for coining "March situation." Then we enjoyed the Lickliter years (his first year at Iowa was my freshman year at Iowa). We knew we had a lot of inexperience coming into the season and there were disappointments in the non-con schedule. This team didn't quit and we find ourselves in an enjoyable March situation.

I am kind of the same way. To have one call that bad decide a game is just totally unacceptable. I do not think I have ever had a regular season loss stick with me like that one.

two games this year where officials absolutely determined outcome. @Neb & @Minn

both of them should be in the W column for the Hawks save morons wearing stripes with agendas.

Completely agree also made the team tired and play bad IMO against sparty. We win that game I think we might have another win under our belt, it took the steam out of the players you could just tell.

Maybe true, but perhaps thats why their playing with so much steam now? You never know how a team, especially this young will respond. Remember how the football team responded after getting their asses handed to them in Happy Valley? It drove home to them, that had to fight and claw for every inch against a quality opponent. I don't think we beat Michigan without the lesson we learned a week prior.

It can work either way but Iowa basketball is a young team and the football team wasn't. A young team I feel takes it to heart to much as a veteran team doesn't.

I know as a fan that game took steam out of me because MInnesota RPI is best in the B10 and would have made their RPI jump almost 20 spots at that point.

Actually the football team was fairly young, with quite a few young players contributing. I believe Iowa had 14 seniors last year compared to Michigans 42 in that game. I understand how people play the coulda, woulda, shoulda, game but it doesn't change anything. Aren't we all glad the coaches and players on the team aren't still dwelling on those losses and have picked themselves up?

Didn't that horrible call at Minny occur with 19 seconds left and Hawks up 2? Not exactly a guaranteed W had the officials got it right. Don't blow home games v Omaha, Illinois, and Maryland. Good news is we can still get in with a run next week, which a week ago seemed incredibly unlikely. And, this March has been infinitely more enjoyable than last year's March choke job, regardless of what happens next weekend.

It's a common fallacy to assume the season would have turned out exactly the same. Players even said recently that the Minnesota loss was being used as extra motivation, so it seems to have helped propel the team to its strong finish. We might have won the Minnesota game and still finished 10-8 in the conference.

Correct, only up two. The game was far from over even if we were granted the ball in that situation.

I'm more or less with OP on this one. That call was absolutely critical. Yes, we had to inbounds and they of course would have fouled but that really hurt because of how terrible the call was. It's not like a charge vs. block and there's no excuse for the refs screwing that up. Especially against those awful Gophers. I hate them.

2 games where officials lost. i think its more 4. hawks should be 6 seeed! this is madness. best program in the state right now, i project them to be top 10 next year.

I am struggling to understand why Iowa is clearly "out" in the view of the talking heads. Ok, so the Omaha loss was bad and UNI did not have a great season, but it's not like Memphis was a cupcake game. They haven't had a great year either, but putting that up as a bad loss relative to the incredibly weak non conference schedules played by others ahead of Iowa is puzzling.

Outside of IL x 2, Iowa hasn't had a bad conference loss the way IL has played recently doesn't make those losses look as bad.

Time to look forward. As bad as the Minny no TO call was, I still think the overall officiating at Nebby was even more one-sided, at least for the OTs and final 5-6 min of regulation. Next win gets us close, but I think it takes 2 more wins with one against a top 50 team to get an invite.

Damn man, get over it. Screwed or not, the game is over and nothing is going to change. Move on and thank goodness the Iowa players have---- why cant you?

No, it was about 10 seconds. If correct call was made and Iowa was able to inbound the ball Iowa would be at FT line up 2 with 7-8 seconds left would have been the most likely scenario

Because of the MN loss, they've been playing "can't lose" games the past 2 weeks and they've been playing well. Hopefully it will continue next week and MN game won't matter!
