I think he’s gone and it will be a negotiated buyout. Did anyone really expect he’d say anything different?

She can't wait until April 1st. The portal opens up on the 24th of March and waiting until April will seriously hamper the new coach in getting valued portal prospects. Monday should be the day of letting Fran go or hiring a new coach, within a day or two. If she waits too long the good coaches will be already hired by other schools unless, she already has someone that has agreed to take over the program.
Either way it shouldn't be long before we find out which way the men's basketball program is headed, with renewed enthusiasm or a program that is on life support and going nowhere.

True, waiting is probably not the best idea, Iowa can afford it. Finding the right coach is probably more important than potentially getting some transfers in a small window.
My fear as that Iowa will do the Iowa thing, let it continue going nowhere

This April 1st date I keep reading about is total nonsense (maybe an April Fool's Day joke?). That date has no bearing on anything. Maybe because it was used as a hypothetical termination date in the article linked below from a few months ago, people thought that it might mean something. The sooner Fran is terminated, the sooner he is owed 60% of his prorated remaining salary and not his full salary, so giving him his walking papers on Monday saves the most money, and gives BG 2 weeks to find her guy (that undoubtedly she's working on already) before the portal opens. If Iowa doesn't have a new coach by March 24th, it likely means that BG has found her guy, but he's participating in the 2nd weekend of the NCAA Tourney, and that extra week of waiting would probably be worth it.
