clemson beat GT, VT, and wake by 14. they beat NCstate by 7 and syracuse by 3. Far from a sure thing.
Alabama played A&M and MSU on the road and won by 8 and 7. They aren't a sure thing either.

Yes, you’re crazy. ISU’s offense was ranked in the 80’s last year, similar to Miss St, but their defense wasn’t nearly as good. Alabama beat MSU 24-0 last year. Maybe a similar type of ballgame but the margin would be wider.

Now it is very unlikely ISU would beat either team, but this offensive ranking that gets used against them is a little skewed. Are we talking about the Zeb Nolans offense that couldn’t score on anyone (17 pts/game) and started 1-3 or the Purdy offense that went 7-2 and scored 31 per game? IMO, Nolands team would get blown out hard, and Purdy’s would make it more interesting by far.

Once they got over the terror of a lightening storm it got better followed by once they got into conference play and the defenses got softer.
