If we can’t agree on…

I get where you're going, but I think you're assuming that we are operating under a shared reality, a common understanding of what occurred, that doesn't exist here. Which to me, is one of the biggest disappointments and long term issue that has been amplified in the Trump era.

What you see as storming the Capitol on 1/6, breaking shit and being violent - a whole bunch of others see as legitimate political discourse, a set up by the Deep State - if that's your reality, then NO, they should not deserve to be prosecuted and punished. That's tyranny. And they're acting rationally based on their understanding of reality.

A similar distortion of reality could likely be created in terms of illegal immigrants who commit crimes, I'm just not familiar with the justification or if it's actually a widely held belief.

I agree as well. Those that committed violence or vandalism should be appropriately punished. However, too many were sentenced to ridiculous punishment and many that were prosecuted never should have been.

This day was so far overblown it’s pathetic. But it’s what politicians do and their sheeple lap it up.

There are videos, you know.

Sheeple. Nice. You get that from Facebook?

The idea that a violent attack on our Capital in order to stop the certification of the election for our President is somehow "overblown" is a big part of the problem. JFC.

Here 4 A Day is the perfect example of not being in reality, as I see he finds your post hilarious.

People who stormed the Capitol on 1/6 breaking shit and being violent deserve to be prosecuted and punished accordingly or that people here illegally who commit violent acts shouldn’t be summarily deported, then there really is no hope for the future of our country.
I'm not sure how anyone can be foolish enough to compare 6 Jan's frat party with the murderous, criminal and financial carnage this nation has suffered from the scourge of our great ILLEGAL invasion.

Tell the cops that were beaten that the day was overblown. They were looking to kill the Speaker of the House and the VP, but yeah, no biggie. Compare that day to EVERY OTHER counting of the votes day, LIKE YESTERDAY, and tell us it's overblown. You MAGAs are truly a special kind of special...in a REALLY bad way.

If we removed the politics of J6 from the equation then we would see that ANYONE who stormed the Capitol and did what these ragtag fools did would hell yes be arrested and thrown in jail.
That space is OUR house and it was a crime committed against all of us.
100%

As quickly as [they] were in 2017??

What's your hope level at 25 minutes later?

I agree with you but the highlighted is the issue. You had way too many people that got punished beyond ridiculously (IMO) for their actions. That is probably were you will find the most disagreements.

This is true. Now address violations of the Eighth Amendment.

Find a person who you believe was convicted and sentenced “beyond ridiculously” for their actions and shoot us a link to their plea agreement.

If J6 participants can be convicted and jailed for entering a restricted area - no violence or destruction of property - just being there, then illegals should suffer the same consequences.

You want to jail 70 yr old grandmas for walking peacefully through federal buildings, holding a flag and taking pictures? Fine. Then hold Jose from Venezuela accountable for swimming across the Rio Grande and trespassing on our land.

Effing hypocrites.

Some Americans: "America is too soft on crime!!! We need harsher penalties that'll make people think twice before they do something stupid!"

Same Americans: "Some of those folks that attempted to stop the certification of the election and assaulted law enforcement officers and violently broke into the US Capitol got punished too severely"

If you depart from a White House tour, walk towards the West Wing, and ignore Secret Service when they order you to stop, what do you think would happen?

Bingo. This times eleventybazillion. The mental gymnastics (or maybe just idiocy) from some people is astounding.
