IMART vs Nolf

Only shocked it was a pin and the lack of fight of IMAR on his back...not surprised Nolf beat him.

This. Mar looked tired after the 1st period. Nolf fought off IMar's attacks in the first couple minutes and basically just wore him out. IMar didn't have a whole lot of fight in the 2nd. I also concur with others that IMar just wasn't accustomed to his best stuff not working and maybe got frustrated as well.

Interesting, I thought the escape was the right call. I think the stall call on top was a good call, and I can go 50/50 with the one on the edge.

To be honest, I disagreed with the escape call at the end of the 1st period; didn't think Nolf truly got to a neutral position. The stall warning against IMar on top was definitely a good call IMO (wish more refs would call it that way). The 2nd stall was a bit unlucky for IMar but was technically the correct call, as I understand the new rule.

Imart and Brunson both gave up. Pathetic.

I don't think they gave up. It's been a long time since Imart has faced someone on his level. It could easily go the other direction next time (hope not). Brunson is coming back from injury and didn't have as good conditioning as Nickal. (Plus Nickal is pretty damm good in a scramble.)

IMar may very well best him next time. IMar is great. Who knows?
But if that is your only takeaway after watching Nolf pin him, well, your credibility is in serious doubt. Ridiculous.
Imar's game strategy sucked against someone as good/better. wasted too much effort on the cow catcher in the first. My guess is he wanted to prove a point to some yute. Also all the effort trying to get a reversal instead of escape really was not worth it. Not smart - wrestled with the ego and not the mind.

The ref should have called the potentially dangerous before that happened. Nothing dirty by Mega

1) By no means am I an expert on the potentially dangerous call but I couldn't believe the ref let him do that.

1a) CC gets a PD call for thinking about that move.

2) I saw no malicious intent by Mega.

2a) IF Mega had a reputation as "punk", I feel like there might be more posts on the subject.

3) I still can't believe the ref let that go.

I watched the replay, in slow motion, it sure doesn't seem like the knee was taken too far any direction. I fully suspect he will be back this season.
I agree, he looked better walking off than he did laying there in pain.

fk - every CC match -that gd ref has his face 2 inches from cory's arms and calls pd when the arm hits his nose = illegal fist to the back.

Just watched the Imar/Nolf match--great action. Mostly agree with the comments here but with a little more credit to Imar--he did look a bit sluggish from 2nd period on, and while the pin was not a fluke it was a bad idea to scramble with Nolf when tired. Imar is best at hitting fast, crisp, powerful shots. I think it could go either way next time, especially if Imar comes back with some venom. Only prediction: Ian Miller's not making the finals as a senior.

Interesting to see Flo has in their headlines that "Penn State Routs Illinois". 6 matches to 4 is hardly a rout.

You could flip some toss up matches and this dual is much closer.

If Imar doesn't punch himself out determined to toss nolf in the first 2 min. 9 pt swing

Brunson secures TD instead of pin. 9 pt swing.

But PSU also gave up 6 on the default. ILL woulda taken a 4-2 lead and possible win so maybe only a 3pt diff there.

Woulda Coulda Shoulda. Appears if you make mistakes vs PSU studs you are gonna pay with getting pinned.

I kinda pin this loss 100% on the coaches that probably got too fired up to win the dual meet - instead of individual matches. idk - seemed like Ill had some delusion of greatness on the meet result. Early in the first 5/6 matches the Ill team seemed overly aggressive to get big points and make statements.

Personally, I thought the Illini gave up a lot during the Iowa dual. They don't seem to have a lot of fight in them with the exception of Richards at 133. Imar of course is a beast and a fighter, but Nolf made him look bad today.

Nothing you said contradicts my statement. I was shocked IMar was pinned in that position. And Brunson definitely gave up. He literally laid still and his hands went limp before the pin.

If IMar and Nolf meet again at B1G's and IMar wins, does that give the 1 seed to Miller at Nationals? Nothing against Miller, he's a really good wrestler, but I think he should have to beat Nolf or Imar to make the finals. It'd be a shame to see those two in the same half of the bracket.

History says it could turn out that way. 2014 NCAA seeds at 141: 1 Port, 2 Stieber, 3 Retherford, 4 Carter.

It shouldn't be shock. Elite Pennsylvania guys wins everything these days. The coach wouldn't make a difference in this case. He's a natural, but so is IMAR.

He would have won under TnT, but the crowd would have appalled by the hammering IMAR was given.

Only in your mind. Mega stalling is a joke. He has a motor and never quits. Where this comes from I have no idea maybe his freshman year when he went into OT with the defending champ and he lost several matches. That is insulting to me as claiming Ramos was a stalker would be to you. Both equally false and both exceptional wrestlers.

Its a good win and definitely deserved. But it
kinda reminds like weatherferd vs streibler. Imar is talent just having barely weight issues but sideline too.
#Hungrylikethenolf
Proud of both these young men whom might rep USA someday.
Id rather see this post on the mat than here.

Ramos was a stalker - that is what he had to do to get these 133ers to wrestle with him. don't know what yer point is and why you spend so much time on an iowa board. guess you love arguing ...

After last year's match in the semi's, you got that right.

Too bad PS can't get every #1 recruit and still have money left over for more full ride scholarships for a couple of #2 recruits for backups:) Illinois really matched up pretty good against PS today. It's going to be hard for any team to match up against them in the NCAA.

Yep, Cael is closing the top guns just like Gable used to do.

Not arguing just correcting errors. My point was the Mega has a motor that does not quit. You seem to be correct though. I did make the same claim for wrestlers named Taylor, Ruth, and Molinaro. All accused of stalling and equally ignorant.
