He was on the Score this morning and I found some of his comments to be very eye opening. As they discussed Jake Arrieta and a potential contract with the Cubs he spoke about how JA is in phenomenal shape, and his age when a potential FA won't matter. He said his firm has spent millions on training facilities, dietitians, and even sports psychologists to help clients. He said Kris Bryant was coming in on Monday for a week, and that Addison Russell had just spent a week there. Both were getting their off season regimens lined up.
I've never heard of an agent being in charge of this. Maybe I have never paid enough attention to this, but, I thought a team would want sole control over this. If nothing else they'd want approval of a conditioning or nutritional program.
They also discussed that four players have accepted QO's this off season. Up until now no player had ever accepted one. Matt Wietters (A Boras client), took one yesterday from the Orioles to join three others. Boras explained that Wietters had multi-year offers. Who knows if that is true, but, I wonder if it's a ploy by some guys who think bigger money might be in the future for next off season? Wietters had some injuries to work through this year, so I can see him taking a QO.
