Iowa announces one game suspensions for Lattimore and Jackson

Two things that haven't been discussed yet. One-it is entirely likely one or more linemen will get injured during camp. I don't remember a year that wasn't the case. One or more players who weren't in the two-deeps before fall camp will probably be starting September 1. Two, the OL will have to reset for the ISU game. Yes it is great getting your two best players back (if they don't do anything to earn another suspension), but they will not have played together as a unit in a true game setting. ISU is going to have a good D line this year.
And for the smartass that said "we might as well forfeit, mighty NIU, blahblahblah"-I sat in Kinnick in 2013 and watched NIU beat Iowa. They have also lost at home to Central Michigan, Western Michigan, lost to horrendous ISU teams in 2012 and 2014, needed a near-miracle comeback to avoid a loss to Ball State, had to block consecutive field goals against UNI to preserve a win, and lost to the juggernaut that is NDSU. Summary-Iowa is consistently sub-par to open the season. They also lack quality depth, especially on the O Line. The first two games just became much more doubtful.

I don't think Kallenberger's lighter weight will be a hinderance to him in this game. NIU's stud d end is undersized and a speed rusher. Could be a good matchup for our young tackle.

Don't worry grayhair, Iowa will be ready for the Ronald McDonalds in the second game. NIU is a larger threat, but I think the Hawkeyes win that one even with three starters on the line out. You have to respect the Huskies, they have defeated many good P5 teams on the road for ten years or so.

And you can't forget the UNI Panthers, I've always rooted for them (except against Iowa, of course). I don't think this is supposed to be one of their better teams, but maybe they will surprise. They are usually a tough, talented football team and may be exactly that in 2018. The Panthers beat the clowns a few times in recent memory. You may argue that is nothing to brag about and that is true. But you'd better respect them when you play them.

Bet the farm on Northern Illinois
if the line drops to +8.5 or less I would find another game to pair it with on a 6 point tease and take the Hawks -2.5 , if it holds +10 or more tease it the other way . I think NIU will give Iowa a game but Hawks win by a score .

Mistaking a police car for an Uber ride isn't what I envision as a bright move.

I heard that this kid comes from a small town where if you are drunk and ask the police for a ride home they give you a ride home so you don’t have to be tempted to drive. I heard that is what happened...he got in the police car and asked for a ride home.
That is what I heard...for what it is worth.

Not hitting the panic button, but a duck is a duck: Sutton Smith is a legit All-American DE, who will likely be eating other people's lunches on Sept 1.

Regardless of who the starting five are on 1 Sept, I hope this Hawk OL will be game-ready.

Hell, I got picked up by a cop before at 2am. He asked me if I had a few drinks (I'd had more than a dozen), and he drove me right home. He done me a solid in light of Rieff's encounter.

I say BF start drawring up the game plan right now for Brady Ross to act as a spy for Sutton. Have a package for both run and pass plays that leaves Ross in the pocket/backfield to knock Smiths teeth out if he tries to run up on Stan and can free up other blockers for Sutton.

Is Iowa at a win-at-all-costs strategy with all these thugs on the team? You thought JUCOs were bad. You should look at your scholarship players.

Teasers on college football games is an excellent way to lose money, regardless of whether you are breaking through the key numbers or not.

(1) I hardly doubt it's a "let-down" to the two guys getting the start; (2) it's always "next man in" regardless of the reason(s) why; and (3) why is everybody convinced their replacements are destined to fail?
......
It is because we have not recruited much big ten ready depth in the past is why. A lot of our recruits come in undersized.

He is not a huge dude. And he got numbers against MAC teams so we shall see. I am sure the kids are watching his tape to see what his moves and tendencies are.

But there was no reason to arrest Reiff in this situation unless he started a fight or was urinating in public. ICPD comes off as glorified meter maids.
THey should have just pointed him in the right direction to wander about?

It's a shame when 4 selfish guys do dumb things that could well determine what bowl game (if we make one at this rate) the other guys who've been busting their butts all year go to. If Stanley goes down due to poor line play the season is shot IMO.

Kirk could have let this slide since it happened last spring and word hadn't leaked out, but he did the right thing. I'll try to remember this when I'm screaming at the o-line and the defensive front.
I see we're already in mid-season form.

Disappointing indeed...who's responsible for this, and why isn't anyone being held accountable?
The players are responsible and they're being held accountable. There is so much hand holding for players at the D1 level. Coaches, Tutors, Advisors, etc. Ultimately the players are the ones that broke the rules Ferentz is holding them accountable.

Ferentz said they have done everything asked of them since the incidents happened in the spring. So why suspend them now and not when the incidents happened? Fragile because 1 player getting injured or suspended can have such a huge impact on our team. 2015- Drew Ott out goes down and our DE pass rush was almost non existent. 2016-Matt Vandeberg goes down and our passing game goes down with him. 2017-our right tackle goes down and we have to start a true freshman(yes he is really good but beside the point). 2018-If we lose Stanley,M.Nelson,Lattimore,Jackson,Wirfs or any top 3 RB/WR for an extended period of time we are in trouble. That's what I call fragile. Every year there's at least 1 position group that's either really weak or 1 injury from being really weak. That's fragile.

Guess I should have been more specific with my question: Who is being held accountable for the lack of team depth? Not, who's being held accountable for Lattimore/Jackson. Sorry for the confusion.
