Jackson Stratton would likely be QB1 if Iowa had to play today vs Maryland (confirmed by Kirk on Wed night, Nov 20)

I thought Marco broke a thumb. Anyone know if it was on the throwing hand. If so, I can't see how he could play this week. Maybe off hand and just wrap it for the game.

Last night during Kirk's weekly radio show:

"We're not playing yet, but Jackson looks like the guy that will be going, He'll get the start.

Confident that he'll do a great job.

He stepped in, did a really nice job in our last ball game.

And he’s got a good ability to throw the football, and he’s learning every day.

So if he’s our guy, we’ll go with him and see what we can do.“

Some other tidbits on Shaggy:

At one time, Shaggy was 4th-string at Iowa, behind Cade McNamara (still dealing with concussion), Brendan Sullivan (ankle; out rest of reg season) and Marco Lainez (has just returned to practice after a hand injury).

Barring a change in the next few days, Saturday will mark Stratton’s FIRST collegiate start.

He went 3-of-6 (50%) for 28 yards after replacing Sullivan in Iowa’s loss to UCLA.

In his 2 years at Colorado State, Stratton went 4-of-17 (24%) with ONE touchdown and TWO interceptions.

It's interesting that Iowa has one of the best running backs per stats in the nation but he hardly gets a peep out of the fanaticals on this board.

A lot of times posters, when they do talk about him, unfortunately say "he's no Shonn Greene."

I hope Lester has a great plan so both the running & passing game works on Saturday

The bye week should have helped getting Stratton ready. We'll see.

Some pretty interesting stuff on this week's "Legends & Listeners" podcast with Dochterman and Leistikow, regarding the Iowa QB situation. They are pretty clear that something significantly changed in the equation between Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon, and they stop just short of being highly critical of McNamara.

Do you think Cade has thrown his last pass as a Hawkeye, as Chad writes here?

His previous head coach at Colorado State is a former Iowa football player. I think he sold him to Kirk for a second hand snow blower, John Deere I believe.
Why the downgrading of Stratton? Keep in mind Lester found Stratton on a trip to the West Coast specifically to look at quarterbacks. I thought he looked the part in the UCLA game and Kirk has said he has talent and can really throw. I look forward to seeing how he performs after working with the first team for a couple weeks now.

Yep, Stratton is from La Jolla right in my backyard. I was just making a joke regarding his recruitment to Iowa. Seems Lester likes visiting La Jolla as he has another commitment from here in class of 2026.

I agree with you. And Kirk said he feels a lot better about Stratton based on how he's performed in practice during the bye week.

What about getting Mahomes Jr. from little debbie to enter the portal since he's benched. He could be an emergency 3rd or 4th option to what we have.

So, is the issue the health of Cade?
If he had a relapse who will be the backup QB this week?
Marco?
Murky situation at best

Doc & Lesitikow were being vague about what the issue is with Cade but Chad wrote that Cade might have thrown his last pass at Iowa. We'll see.

@Max_Rebo , what's your take on this?

Also, I am guessing that Lainez might be the back up to Shaggy.

Is Iowa really turning the page to Sully and Shaggy?

"It does seem like that interception against Northwestern probably was his last snap as a Hawkeye."

Check this out & watch (from yesterday):
