Iowa in the NCAAs

Some good takes for sure, but I disagree on the 133. I think ADS could wrestle RBY and Fix 10 times each and I don’t think he wins 2 matches total. RBY has put a lot of separation between him and ADS.

Brooks pace is gonna be hard to beat.

I don’t think Micic can go with Rivera or Lee, JE hasn’t looked good yet.

Starocci jumped levels, but Lewis, Hidley, and Kemerer is a steep climb for anyone.

We are pretty much in agreement. I would definitely favor RBY and Fix over DeSanto every match. I just think a full go DeSanto has a puncher's chance against both if he can stay calm, be patient and wear them down to the end.

As far as Brooks and his pace goes, I haven't really seen pace be an issue for either Hidlay or Amine. If he beats them it will be skill that does it.

Micic definitely needs to show a ton more, which is why I said "if" his best version shows at 141. To me, Eierman looks more like he is experimenting than just wrestling "bad". He is still 11-0 and I am not going to drop him any unless I see him lose.

Starocci can definitely win, but I sure haven't noticed anything that makes me think he has jumped ahead of any of these guys. I would put him 50/50 against all 3...

for someone who doesn't score a ton of points, ferrari feels unbeatable to me. he's elite in every position. can get to legs when he needs to, good finisher, great rider, doesn't get ridden, and is almost impossible to take down. even if you get to his legs, which rarely happens, good luck finishing with his flexibility and balance. if i'm not wrong, i believe he's only given up 2 offensive points in his career. could be missing a match, but the only one that comes to mind is the 3-2 loss to adams.

even though there is a lot of talent at 197, he *feels* like a lock to me.
I love Warner and hope he proves me wrong, but watching his match against Ferrari, regardless of the score, had me feeling like they could wrestle 100x and Ferrari would win them all by one.

Especially if the ref let's him do his perfectly crafted okie state stall ride whenever he's on top.

i got the same feeling. i don't know how warner would ever finish on him and i don't see him being able to hit his go behinds off ferarri's attacks.

it's a strange combination because warner was arguably his toughest match at ncaa's last year because he's also hard to score on and good on bottom, but it feels like he'll always find a way to eek that out because warner can't score.

Yea, the double boots in and cling to your back like a leach stall ride that almost all the Okie State wrestlers have mastered is so frustrating to watch. What is the bottom guy supposed to do. They rarely do any scoring from the position, aren't accomplishing anything other than gaining riding time, and the refs usually call stalling on the bottom guy as well. Drives me nuts. It is just the bottom guy bellied out with the top guy piggy back on him for 2 minutes. If that ride is allowed lets allow the Gilman/Waters slam to be allowed to combat it! That would at least make it interesting.

You may have gone off on a bit of a tangent there. The stall riding that Ferrari does, definitely has nothing to do with double boots. He has become a master of the drop to the legs for just less than 5 seconds before moving back up above the hips and often repeats this while mixing in restarts from pushing the opponent out of bounds.

yeah he doesn’t ride legs at all. he’s a double thigh pry/spiral claw guy. great at covering after dropping to a leg. one casualty of the drop down rules is that refs won’t call regular stalling anymore if the guy continues to cover.

and tbc, most of our lineup does the exact same ride. ferrari is just better at it so it seems worse because he’s on top longer.

I think they have meetings to brainstorm new stalling tactics instead of dodgeball games.

This is how I currently have it. I'm sure I'll get roasted for some spots. Iowa would have 8 All Americans. I don't have Murin or Young as All Americans because I hate how they play 1-takedown roulette. Iowa also has one in the finals in this scenario.
3 teams with > 100pts isn't happening when you start realistically considering Cornell, ASU, and Ok State

Like you I can't envision three teams > 100 points. But I don't see those three teams (Okie, ASU and Cornell) making a lot of noise. Yes, you've got Yianni, Fix, Ferrari, and I'll add Vito to the mix, but after that you've got some guys ranked 3-8 that I'm thinking will underperform...some significantly underperform. In the end I think it's a two-horse race (us and them). I think Michigan is like an Independent running for President. They have no chance of winning, but will definitely screw it up for one of us two contenders.

I’m not buying a scenario where someone other than Star or Kemerer wins 174. Mekhi Lewis already went sudden victory with Peyton Mocco and Chris Foca.
Don't be too hasty on that. He is still 13-0 and much like Ferrari, Lewis isn't an offensive juggernaught, but he is VERY hard to score on. Mocco can be unorthodox and managed to come back from down 4-1 to force OT, but he got shut down after that. Foca was just a 1-1 match going into OT.

Much, like Eierman this year, they are undefeated. I wouldn't worry about either unless they actually lose a match...

IMHO that’s why Nick Lee is the safe bet vs Eirman. Guys that play with fire like that tend to get burned. I like a consistent and improving Star and an experienced, relentless Kemdog over Lewis.

I want to see Dean & Kirk wrestle a top 10 type guy before I think they are contenders. Not saying they are not AA’s but not sold on them being able to make it to Saturday night just yet. Could say the same about Cass and Warner as well.

My friend, it looks like we're both hoping Big Tony takes out Kerk. I was afraid that Kerk had improved with the extra year in the room and would be competitive against Mason. And sadly, he is. Ugh! We'll see what happens in Iowa City next Friday. I think we're going to need Cass to win to carry us across the finish line...and I hope Tony's up to the task.

All good. I’m not concerned

Double boots needs to be against the rules. Nothing more than legal stalling.

Kerk maybe looking past tony at this point? Thinking all I have to do is beat Gable :) After tonight's matches I would take Kerk over Cass but lets wait and see. I hope this match happens. If I had to guess right know I would guess Cass will be 4 seed at big tens unless he beats Parris and hope to be 7th seed at NCAA that way he's on other side of Gable. Personally I think there is one and 2-6 with the Arizona kid.

Brother: I forgot about this bet until yesterday. Kerk won 3 of 4 and I did pay my $50 for Cass taking out Kerk. But did you you pay HWC for Kerk winning against Parris, Cass, Orndorff and Lance? I want to ensure the HWC gets all the money they can. LOL! :)

I agree with you completely about Eierman. I thought that from very early on in the season. Why not work on different techniques? I guess we will see in a few weeks.
