Iowa offers 2023 legacy TE Mac Markway, One of the Top Overall Prospects in the Nation for his Class

was that reported anywhere or was it just a rumor?
People involved in his recruitment have stated this was the case. We offered him as a football player and told him we saw him as a stud OL that had an NFL future. He wanted to be a TE. When the interest wasn't reciprocated we told him he could get an opportunity to join in as a TE then. I have our issues with our staff, but they are consistent and honest with kids. They tell them their vision and where they see them fitting in. If the kid doesn't buy into that, then they go somewhere else. Think back to the AJ Derby situation. We told him he was an NFL TE. He wanted to play QB. We told him he could have a scholarship as a QB and would have an opportunity to compete for the job but his quickest path to the field was as a TE.

BTW- He did reach out to the staff again and asked if there was room. We told him we still thought he was a potential monster at OL. He is really wanting to be a TE.

It's the con of the IOWA TE perception. Kid wants to be a stud TE just like the past Hawkeye TEs. We just think he is a better OL.

That's all there is to it. Dad loves the hawks and is fond of the staff.

you must have some good insider friends ;)

Very true. He was going to be a big part of their TE rotation this year at LSU, and the coaches were very disappointed that he left. He didn't see a future there though, since LSU had brought in two freakish athletes at that position who were already pushing him on the depth chart: true sophomore Ka'Morreun Pimpton and true freshman Trey'Dez Green. I think Mac saw that by next season he may not be on the two deeps, especially if starter Mason Taylor returns for his SR year instead of going pro.
Not to mention that both of those guys are destined for the all name team
