Iowa school district shuttering...

Where did you teach Rico Suave?? I taught for 24 years in elementary school. Now here is what has happened since the far right basket cases have implemented since they took over my district's school board:
They love to ban books. Kindergarten teachers...1st grade teachers( and all the classroom teachers (2-4) have had to enter every book in their classroom libraries ( think like Bernstein bears/ Dr Seuss/ any book from scholastic...) you know books kids read when they are learning howto read, teachers had to scan books and create a database and find book reviews on all of these books for students who are just learning to read and submit this to the school board. Do you have any idea how many books are in a kindergarten classroom library?? Easily over 1000.

One of the bright moves that the maga school board implemented at one of our middle schools was to ban a book that was the biography of the namesake of the school itself. Dawson Middle School ( Carroll ISD/Southlake, Texas). Dawson was named after George Dawson. A black man who grew up in Dallas and learned to read when he was 98. Amazing story about an amazing man. He grew up in the Jim Crow days and when he was young, a friend of his was lynched ( accused of raping a white girl...later found to innocent...you know Like Emmit Till) well that school board decided that the book is to violent for 7th & 8th graders...eben though it had been a tradition for the students to read since the school opened. Solid bold move maga folk.

Scholastic news is now banned in all of the Carroll Schools because one of the maga school members. She thought it was pushing a leftist idiology ....great move maga folk

Thanks for a well reasoned response.

When we lived in Iowa we chose to send our kids to a private catholic school partly because the public school lacked teachers. Many classrooms had permanent subs, some who weren’t even licensed teachers. The kicker is they had instructional coaches…..former teachers who get paid(higher wages?)to do what exactly? Can someone explain the reasoning for this….perhaps Tom P knows?
It's because of this program. I don't know a lot about it because it started after I retired.

Sounds like that local school board has the children's best interests in mind, I would hope it spreads to the rest of America. You're fortunate to teach in such a learning environment.

How would YOU know Rico if the kid’s best interests were being served? It’s the parents who interests are being served here in many of these districts….NOT the child’s! The parents are the ones choosing the curriculums and the text books and the research materials that are being made available to those who are charged with learning.
Is the purpose of raising a child to replace their parents or is it to move society forward in a positive direction?

Woker indoctrination is not in the child's best interest. If you disagree, I feel sorry for any children you have or had responsibility for.

This guy believes what Terry Mccullugh (sp?) said out loud when running for Governor of Virginia. He said it’s none of the parents business what their kids are being taught in the government run schools. This lost him the race. First time I’ve heard a Democrat politician be honest when campaigning. He thought this would endear him to the large amount of Democrats in and around DC enough to offset pissing off the rest of the voters, and win. Miscalculation.

So you are saying that a child’s education and ability to think critically is NOT the public schoools job but the schools #1 job is to educate the community’s kids to think as their parents think? Right? Truth be damned.

Truth?? Maybe your schools wouldn’t be feeling heat if you stuck to teaching reading, writing, arithmetic instead of your socialist dictatorship politics and hatred of our country. Parents do have a right to know what kind of indoctrination their young children are being subjected to. They’re our kids not yours, we have a right to influence how they are being raised more than left wing government institutions (public schools). Our kids scores in actual academic disciplines are plummeting fast because teachers are so obsessed with teaching them left wing politics instead of thing that matter in the real world. The reason public school teachers fight vouchers is because you’re afraid of competition. People can take their voucher to your public schools still if they want. Welcome to the real world of competition, were you have to deliver results at a fair price to succeed, instead of having your monopoly on “education “.

Our school board also supported Robert Morris. He supported them and they supported him. Has the Robert Morris story made the news in the midwest? The short story is that this pedophile ( net worth of $130,000,000) molested a 12 year old girl for 5 years when he was a traveling minister in Oklahoma. This pedophile would give sermons from the gateway pulpit telling the gateway congregation who to vote for in local school board and city council elections close to Southlake. My former district would have school functions at Gateway. So was that in the childrens best interests? Turns out the pedophiles and the groomers were the clergy and not us evil teachers.

Did your children get educated or go down in flames because of his recommendations? How about your city? Did those council members do the city right?

Wow what a response ! So a person like Morris tells communities on how to vote and these people are now put in positions of local power who then bring in their thoughts and beliefs on how to run a school district and bring in ideas that are flipping backwards ( sorry 7th & 8th grade students you can't read a book about George Dawson). Good job Carroll ISD !!

Did students education go up in flames? Figuratively its definitely getting warmer because many of the veteran teachers have left Carroll and they are having problems filling those positions. Carroll was regarded as a top 3 if not the very top of public education districts in Texas. I taught many students who went to the Ivy league schools, Stanford, MIT, U Chicago .... Now the % of Carroll kids getting into the top flight schools are dropping and parents are now asking why? They currently have openings for HS chemistry classes. It used to be so difficult to land a job at Carroll. Today not as much. When you have no support from the school board annd they question what you are doing, teachers leave and no one wants to come in.

Another brain fart the board had was they started to sell school land and one of the parcels( right next to my former school could not be sold because my school received $13,000,000 from a district bond (from the previous school board who knew what in the hell they were doing because there were some former teachers on that board) and they replaced the old HVAC system with a geo thermal hvac system and this lot had geo thermal units buried in the ground so because of that, you can't anything on that land !! Good move Carroll !!!

Southlake as a city will always be fine. It's one of the richest cities in the country. It grew because of the schools districts reputation and as DFW grew, parents who valued education and could afford to live in 76092 would buy a house here. Houses start at around $1,000,000 and rise from there. But there is no doubt that the crown jewel of Southlake (Carroll ISD) has lost a lot of its luster.

Where did you teachat again?? I get the feeling you have never taught in a classroom....

Who is accusing teachers of being pedofiles, although I’m sure some are. All jobs with pier over kids is going to attract them, but this is about school choice with your tax money instead of government monopolies with schools.

Geothermal systems are a good thing sorry they upset or scare you.

The students you mentioned not getting into MIT or Stanford are more likely victims of Affirmative Action rather than being bypassed because they didn't get to read a certain book in 7th or 8th grade as you allege.

If homes start at the $1,000,000.00 level as you claim maybe they are having a difficult time filling the teacher jobs because a teacher can't afford to live there.

It appears to me you basically slapped the voting public in the face because they elected candidates, they wanted rather than load the board up with teachers and cronies of the teacher's union which you support.

Sour grapes are a bitter fruit be better than that.

So much to teach this padowon on Texas Public Schools !! I'll try to use small words so you don't get overwhelmed.

No shit sherlock...Geothermal units are fantastic !!! The current school board was trying to sell a parcel of school land with geothermal units on them !!

Afirmitive Action?? GOP talking point numero uno. Actually its more than likely because students are not being challenged in the classroom because they are not learning about life outside of the Southlake Bubble. Can't read about lynchings because even though it has happened in the outside world, we can't talk about it inside a classroom because the snowflakes feel it takes away from the perfect world they paint. Don't want to shame the white guy ( a parent actually typed that in an email to a teacher in my school ( it was from a scholastic news story about a hispanic lady in 1950s California who wanted her kids to go to the neighborhood schoolbut they were told they could not, so she brought her case into the California Court System and she won !! But a Carroll parent didn't want his 4th grader to learn about thst because in his opinion "It shamed the whiteman." What a freaking snowflake.

Most people can't afford to live in Southlake. No big deal...I live in a nice house. I had a 7 mile commute to my Carroll school. 15 minutes..
Here's a Zillow profile on 76092...

LOL - CRT is dumb, blaming people in 2024 for something that may have happened hundreds of years ago is not only wrong but should never be taught in our schools. You should be fired as a teacher!

Going to need a Task Force due to how much demand there is for private school. Not going to be able to fit everyone soon.
I tried to tell people to get in their enrollment applications while they could...

"We are excited to share the formation of the Regina Enrollment and Campus Task Force, established by the Regina School Board in response to the growth and increased interest in Regina. The Task Force’s primary goal is to evaluate our current and future needs to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of the Regina Catholic Education Center. As part of this process we are requesting your feedback by completing a 5-minute survey via the link or QR Code at the end of this letter.

The Essential Question we seek to address through the work of the Task Force is: Is it in the long-term best interest of Regina Catholic Education Center to manage enrollment through restriction or expansion of campus(es)?

The purpose of this Task Force is to explore various enrollment scenarios and present a recommendation based on thorough research and data analysis. The scenarios under consideration include:
  • Enrollment Restriction
  • Existing Campus Expansion
  • Additional/Supplemental Campus Expansion
The Task Force began its work in April 2024 and aims to present a recommendation to the Regina Board of Education by January 2025."

the task force will be mandated to get as much $$ as they can, while keeping the riff raff out.

In the years to come they're gonna write volumes on the perils of one political mindset infiltrating public schools and the consequences of those actions.

^^^ They're going to be able to jack up tuition as high as they want without having to build more facilties.
It was no secret that private schools were going to limit enrollment to be selective in regards to athletic prowess.
