Iowa Showing Interest in NDSU Transfer, Grant Nelson

A few years back on the football board he posted his name and address in case anyone wanted to go fight him. Fond memories of Kilroy/Gilligan/Tar. Then his racist and sexist rants led to him being banned from here, TMB, ESPN, 24/7 and just about anywhere else he was posting.
Can we Survivor style vote him off the island? Please mods?

Really, guys. I understand that Karnack will irritate some, but just ignore him if he affects you that way. He is an uber-passionate Hawkeye BB fan who at times provides some useful & interesting information or prespective. This Board has also showcased similar harsh criticism of Franisdaman, who often provides much informative BB info that others, including those who really dislike him, don't. No reason to boot every poster who annoys someone or some group on this Board. That kind of canceling would empty the Board of all content very quickly.

There's also a reason why he was banned here and other sites. He regularly derails threads and personally attacks posters. For every post of good information he provides (most of which is publicly available info about the current roster) he also posts 10 followups of nonsense and picking fights with anyone else who slightly disagrees with him.
Yeah he's a passionate fan, I'll give you that. But he's more of a nuisance here than a help IMO. But yeah, I'll just put him on ignore until he inevitably gets banned by the mods for the 100th time.

Its hilarious to me that people still respond to him after so many years.

Its like choosing to poke yourself in the eye with a stick over and over.

Theres no upside.
Message board drama. As they say the internet is serious business.

How about putting him on ignore. We can all blacklist him. Then blacklist his next handle.

This will be a good test for how well Gatens can recruit. I believe he's the lead recruiter for Nelson. Drew has a heck of a program at Baylor and the Bama coach has been impressive so far. The good thing Iowa has going for it their isn't a regional fit like the other two guys they lost out in the Portal to. The Dakota's are far from everyone.

Not sure you should blame Gatens if we don't land him. If NIL (getting paid) is a big part of his decision, we are in trouble because, as has been discussed, we spent all the NIL money on football transfers.

I thought the transfer portal was about to end? Do we expect Nelson's decision soon?
the time to enter the portal ended but the ones already in the portal can still be recruited the Grad tranfers can still try to transfer, the transfer portal is strange as to who and when they can enter.

I hear you, but my goodness I don't expect him or any other poster to provide insider, non-public information in order to justify their posting. I for one appreciate those that dig out Hawkeye BB related "public" information that I'm unaware of & sharing it on this Board. Most of us don't have time to research all the "public" information out there. It's a service - to me at least.

Guessing he'll visit Bama, Baylor, and Iowa. Thought I read he'll decide mid June. That puts the time line at about two weeks give or take a day.

Don't blame anyone for losing our to a program such as Baylor. But Assistants are hired to land talent. This is a core responsibility. And a good gauge on how he's performing so far.

Mulvey came in as a project and will remain a project until he proves otherwise. The chances are pretty good that he leaves Iowa as a project...just the way it turns out sometimes, especially when you can bring in transfers to keep them off the floor.
you mean like Olaseni? or how about Nunge. there are more if you want to read about them.

Doesn't Iowa have enough bigs for next season?
In a word, no. They have one big with very good mid-major production and another with OK mid-major production. After that it’s three guys who are question marks.

Ideally, they'd have a rotation of three bigs who are proven at the college level.

But, unfortunately, Matt could be the best recruiter in the country but if money talks, and Grant Nelson listens, Gatens doesn't have any money to offer.

Pay to play is so much fun. Not.

Nunge was much better scorer coming out of HS and a better athlete than Mulvey. Olenseni was a great athlete who was just starting to learn the game when he got to Iowa. I hope Mulvey will make the jump, but I haven't seen much to make me think it will happen. Just my opinion.

you haven't seen much of anything to form a opinion of Mulvey. there was a big under Dr. Tom that didn't do much of anything until his SR year and he ended up being drafted.

the cold hard fact are that bigs take longer to develop this is the negative effect of Garza, 99% expect every big that comes to Iowa just has to dominate like he did,

Mulvey has not so posters like you say he can't/won't develop.

Oh come on. He’s been here what? 1-2 years and he’s competing against a team that just recently won a national championship and another in Bama that spent the season ranked number for awhile and has a ton of spots open? Not being very realistic here. Being in the top 3 at the moment is pretty big.

leaving out Mulvey. Nelson is looking at these on the IA roster that he has in front of him
4* Freeman 6'10 maybe 6'11
4* Krikke 6'9
4* Dembele 6'9
3* Brauns 6'9

he will look at that and see how and where he would fit in then decide what's best for him, not what a bunch of nobodies on a msg board think.

None of those guys will be in front of him. If he comes he’s the starting 5 immediately

If he chooses the Hawks, Nelson and Krikke seem like the most likely to start at 4/5. Brauns seems like a solid back up, mostly at 5. It is really hard to judge whether the freshmen 4/5s will be ready to step into more than spot minutes, but they both look like really good players. Not many players redshirt nowadays, but the one least ready to play might be a candidate. I'm not sure what to make of Mulvey. He could still be a solid contributor, or he could be looking to transfer after sitting on the bench again this year. Riley seems like a great kid, so I hope he can step it up.

Nelson would give us some really good depth in the middle, to go with a logjam at 3 with Patrick and the Sandfort bros, who all should be ready to contribute. Tony and Dix should be really good at 2. Bowen and Harding are very talented, but I cant really predict how well they will play against top D1 competition. I expected a lot more from Bowen last year, and I expect he will be a lot stronger and ready for physical play. Harding looks great in the tapes I have seen. He has everything you want in a PG, except maybe size. If those guys play up to how good I think they can be, Iowa could be a huge surprise.

short people have no reason to live

Dean Oliver was 5'10 and he never had trouble playing in the BT,
MSU just signed a 6'0 pg. Indiana just signed a 5'11 pg. so you are saying that Harding should not have been offered?

lets not forget JBO. he might have been 6'1 max and he did this as a FR.
175 assists
85 3 pointers made

1 of just 2 pgs in the previous 25 years to accomplishment that

then as a SO
175 plus assists
85 plus made 3's

he was the only player to have those stats in the previous 25 years.

and to think he did this in the greatest athletic players in the world.
it would not surprise me if did about the same, Gesell was about 6'1 and he played the same level of players in the BT.

the mighty BT where the greatest players play and anybody that Fran bring can't compete against.

Iowa both men and the women should just shut their programs down.

I loved Dean. Mason City guy right?

Anyway with NIL it is about bringing guys to the table. After that u r a little tied to what a player can get at Iowa vs somewhere else. I am pleased with what that they have done so far. Great class coming in and maybe another….maybe not. But I believe the coaches are doing a solid job relative to bringing talent to the table.

yes he was and he was teammates with Ricky Davis.

Didn't say he can't, but I don't see it.
Les Jepsen was the guy for Tom Davis. Redshirted, then eventually played a lot his junior year averaging 4 pts, 5 rebs. Blossomed his senior year when he jumped to 15 pts, 10 rebounds and got drafted, so you make a good point! :)

JHC, you keep beating the same broken drum. Some do, some don’t. Mulvey might and he might not. On the surface though it doesn’t bode well that they felt the need to bring in two bigs from the portal…and in particular Brauns.

Also, Garza didn’t come in a “dominate” from day one. It took until his Jr year.
