Iowa Showing Interest in NDSU Transfer, Grant Nelson

JHC, you keep beating the same broken drum. Some do, some don’t. Mulvey might and he might not. On the surface though it doesn’t bode well that they felt the need to bring in two bigs from the portal…and in particular Brauns.

Also, Garza didn’t come in a “dominate” from day one. It took until his Jr year.
If you're expecting something different or for any of what you're saying to sink in or even be acknowledged you're in for a very long wait.

An argument with a brick wall would be more productive.

the last 2 season IA has been limited in the front court due to depth, this fall that should not be a issue. with or with out Mulvey Fran will have these
RSSR Krikke 6'9 4-5
JR Brauns 6'9 4-5
FR Dembele 6'94-5
FR Freeman 6'11 4-5
RSFR Patrick 6'9 3-4 depending on the situation

all Nelson does add another to the front court as insurance if Mulvey can't provide a minimum of 15 mpg,

I can't believe I need to respond to this, but Nelson is probably better than any of the front court players listed, so to label him as "insurance" is laughable

Am I the only one who can't understand how unregulated NIL can be OK, allowing college players to retain their eligibility status per NCAA rules? Some athletes are going to make more money under NIL agreements than they can earn as "professionals", who lose their eligibility. Either I am missing something, or this (using a phrase I maybe have never used) throws the baby out with the bath water. I guess not punishing schools, like UNC, for eliminating the "student-athlete" requirement had already made eligibility a joke...

I wonder why the same players fans get excited about as transfers would cause shock and outrage if Fran signed them out of High School.

Because most "fans" don't spend their entire professional life learning the game and scouting players from a young age. Many can only comment based on highlight tape and parroting the opinions of others. Amazing how people who spend an hour or so a day reading up on recruits and maybe watch a game, maybe even daily, think they know remotelly as much as a full-time college coach.

Visits

Here is a tweet on his upcoming visits. No Iowa on the list. Looks like the teams listed pay a lot, so there you go

I mean this sincerely, Fran should have known this guy was going to demand a high number and if Iowa couldn't be competitive there he shouldn't have recruited him.

That said, we don't know how much he actually recruited him or anything like that.

some of these posters consider their opinions as actual facts rather than waiting. they also have forgotten the Murray boys. now they have condemned these FR as failures already, Garza was not even a top 100 4* by Rivals and he did just fine as a FR and SO.

to bad they are expecting these Transfer to score 20 plus ppg and 10 plus rpg to be qualified to play for Iowa and that includes the incoming FR.

So basically damned if you do and damned if you don't?

How so? You know a guy of this caliber is going to be getting 500k+. I don't care how much you might think he likes your school, if you can't get close to that it's a waste of time. That's just a fact.

There is a reason ISU is going in to next season with Robert Jones as the starting C. They can't compete with schools on price for the high level transfer C prospects.

You can't get a hit unless you take a swing at the ball.

You can give me a bat and put me in the box against Brody Brecht and I’ll go 0 for 100 and literally piss myself when the first fastball goes inside.

I don’t care how nice your facilities are or how good of a coach you are. If there is a guy that is a one year dude who is going to command 500k+ and you don’t get close to that it’s a wrap.

Fran can complain about this all he wants but if he doesn’t like that he needs to get out of the business or recruit different guys.

"You miss every shot you don't take",... Wayne Gretzky

Sorry Bryce,.. I'll be following Gretzky's lead.

It's not like Iowa has spent a ton of time/money on this. They've probably spent some time on some phone calls and Zooms and in the initial meetings clearly Nelson showed some amount of interest--that's why Iowa initially showed up on the short list and some of the beat writers for Iowa started to say this was becoming more of a possibility than it initially looked.
It's not totally outlandish to think that a guy who's wanting to maximize his NBA stock would maybe not factor in NIL as much as someone like Dickinson or some of these other good college bigs who realistically has 0 NBA chances. It's a long term bet vs a short term bet. Of course there are situations that offer both NBA showcase + NIL opportunities--which just looking at Nelson's visit list looks like he's hoping Bama, Arkansas and Baylor are.

Looks like ISU is shoving their chips in on Omaha being the real deal if the number I've seen ($440,000) is correct. How much has ISU spent on the highly ranked 2023 and 2024 classes?

More schools may go away from true centers if the going rate if half a Mil., and you need one from the portal.

If Iowa spent a lot of effort, when Nelson had made it clear that we wanted a big NIL agreement, then I agree with you. It really does suck that college sports has become this mess, but for now, it is what it is. I guess Fran did well to land Krikke and Brauns.

I hope Nelson did his homework with his chosen finalists, because there is a decent chance that he won't get to showcase his talents as much as he hopes. I haven't kept up with those rosters, but they have been pretty crowded with top talent recently.

Where did you see that 440k? That’s certainly not in line with what I’ve heard.

Another site lists players, and NIL amounts. On the commitment page they show $442,000 next to Omaha's worth. They list $65,000 next to Momcilovic, and don't give NIL for any other 2023 or 2024 recruits.

What site? And where are they getting their info?

Assuming you are talking about ON3--they have an algorithm that estimates how much a player is worth based on their social media followings. It's widely known that their estimates are really, really bad.
Similarly, that site has a percentage for their recruiting guesses and it's an algorithm that takes into consideration things like who offered first, if past players from that high school went somewhere, visits, social media reactions, etc. And those percentages are laughable until one of their experts overrides it with an actual "crystal ball prediction".

I commend them for trying something unique with the AI stuff, but it's pretty clear that it's a ways off from being accurate.

Kikke did just not lead his team in scoring he led the entire league in scoring. now that is hard to do in any league.

Fran is not bringing in a bunch of losers like so many of you are trying to make it out to be
even Krikke was a 4* top 100 player.
I am truly sorry he was not a 5* 1 n done as well as the other recruit that so many of you that demand that Fran gets.

think about this. this falls team will have 3 top 100 4* on the roster
Patrick 6'9
Pryce Sanford 6'7
Krikke 6'9

the you have these on the team

Freeman 6'11
Harding 6'1
Dembele 6'9

even Koch 6'7 in the 24 class is a top 100 4*
gee this is the most talent on paper under Fran in his 14 years.

“Literally piss yourself”? What a courageous man you are.
