James Franklin and staff can certainly recruit and sell a program (see what he did at Vanderbilt) but it is time for him to put up some wins at PSU (7-6 in both years). I understand he is building the program up but there was a lot of talent on his teams. I wish Hippie the best....

He did do a decent job at Vandy, but he did it when Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina weren't very good. I don't think he'll make it very long at Penn State.

There was a lot of talent? Don't you mean the least talented PSU team ever? Since when does 20 less scholarships - another 20 4 star recruits who transferred or decommitted = a lot of talent

JF won more games at PSU in his first two years than Harbaugh at Stanford and Saban at MSU and neither had sanctions. Neither had to use walk on punters/kickers for two years. Neither were limited to 5 scholarship OL when they took over.

When Obrien took over he started 0-1 sanction recruits in 2012. He started 3-4 in 2013. JF started 15 last year in the opener.

I hope Hippenhammer likes the new coach because Franklin won't be there for long.

He is not going anywhere. If he did then PSU would hire another SEC coach. Probably Dan Mullen who comes from PSU lineage and another good recruiter.

Not likely. They aren't better than MSU, Michigan and OSU in that division and that won't improve under Franklin.

Saban didn't have to deal with sanctions at MSU? You aren't familiar with the reason the job was open for him to take

IF.. Matt Ruhle keeps Temple relevant...he will be a strong contender for the job..Born in State College..played LB for PSU..What is Mullen making at Miss State? 4.3 mill or more?

Mullen does not make that much. He even talked to Rutgers about their job last year. He turned it down because RU would not pay much for a staff.

Mullen signed a contract extention in Feb of 2015 that paid him an avg of 4,275,000 a year..

Franklin doesn't beat good teams. Fact. Franklin took one of the best QB prospects in the country and turned him into a mess. Fact.

MSU record in year before Saban: 0-11
PSU record in year before Franklin: 7-5

REally. What were their sanctions? $5 fine and losing 0 scholarships?

Franklin had a better record at PSU in his first two years. FACT.
Lost 2 schollies the first year..7 in the second. These were self imposed by the school, along with 4 years on probation..then the NCAA added some more stipulations.. Why did you state Saban didn't have to deal with any sanctions?

Self imposed sanctions are a joke.

Saban had no where to go but up. PSU was trending down when JF took over. SAban had a full roster-2 self imposed schollys. JF had 20 less scholarships. When he took over the sanction recruits that never played for Obrien were at the point where they needed to play. Most of Franklin's higher rated recruits have yet to see the field.

If you think college football is all about coaching then why are you worried about losing Hippenhammer? Why not just coach up a walk on? Why does Saban and Urban even recruit?

Neither does Iowa and that was without sanctions. Stanford just scored again.

Never heard you complain about Franklin until you lost a recruit to him. Funny how that works.

He was considered one of the best young coaches in college when he was at VAndy and was beating SEC schools like Florida. Let me know when Iowa beats someone good.

I'm not complaining about him. I didn't think it was a good hire to begin with I don't think he will make it very long at Penn State. Not sure why you like him so much. But if you are happy with him that is fine. And I couldn't care less if a recruit chooses PSU over Iowa. No skin off my back.

You're good at making excuses for Franklin. You're gonna need them.

Just keeping it real. Funny how the national media said the sanctions were worse than the death penalty and now act like 7-6 is a bad year.

What did you think of Obrien? Franklin has done more with less.

What was your excuse?

You don't care about Hippenhammer? That is ironic on a thread about Hippenhammer. Why not just coach up a walk on? That is what Franklin did the last two years.

I don't think you wanna play the Iowa/Penn St head to head game....especially over the past 15 years.
