******Iowa vs Oklahoma Game Thread******

OK had 24 offensive rebounds. Iowa had 5. That's nuts.
Jan’s refusal to play Ava and let her play through some things has hurt us this year. She stuck with stuelke even those she was a walking turnover and has no moves now that people stay down and just put their hands up.
Jan better work on post entry passing and learn how to keep Ava on the floor.

I think Jan needs to define Guyton's role for next year. Seems like she wants to be a shooter first and a point guard second. So young in her career that she can't do both effectively. And she needs to get stronger.

The other thing that was missing this year was toughness, I hope we get that back.
Guytons decision making got worse as the season progressed. She acted like she was trying to make a highlight tape of herself to shop around.

I was at the game. Good times! 😂

Guyton and McCabe looked terrified. Deer in the headlights.

Jan's gameplan and lack of adjustments were god awful.

Syd had a bad game. Just hasn't ever recovered from the injury I don't think.

Heiden wasn't ready. Should have had O'Grady in for majority of her minutes for defense.

Hannah was neutralized by OU's size.

Kylie played pretty well but started getting torched on D in the second half. I think she was tired.

Lucy was the bright spot. Hell of a player.
Syd has had lots of good games this season. The injury prior to the season had nothing to do with today. She just had a really bad day but has been a WARRIOR for us the past 3 years. .

Ava still has a ways to go, but she will be a good player.

Ava has to get much stronger, to include stronger hands.

I could see Guyton transferring to a small school.

Hannah can't be 6'2" and only decent down in the post, where much taller girls are waiting for her. She has to develop a shot for her last season.

Need Addie Deal to be the real deal from the get-go.

Certainly. One of my all time favorite Hawkeyes. She just doesn't have the mobility she used to so the dribble drive wasn't possible today. There were a few times she didn't pull the trigger on threes that she should have, also.

Just looked a step slow today on offense and defense.

Hannah is a center in a forward's body. Unfortunately, I don't see her developing shooting touch. She's a back to the basket player and will struggle against good centers.

If Heiden can develop her game enough to draw the other teams best center then Hannah can flourish.

Say goodbye Guyton.
Yes agree. Guyton overhyped. She played 29 of 34 games. It is doubtful she will be the franchise leader in the future.
After Caitlin Lucy shined. Guyton is not that player. Injury ACL .. thats the past.
Look at other freshman at 1 or 2 ... Olivia Olson, Syla Swords, Britt Prince, Delaney Gibb, or Cambridge. Guyton in my opinion will never play to their level. Sorry. We need a 1/2 guard and scorer for next year. Deal will be great but needs a guard partner other than Kylie or McCabe.

Yeah when OU’s 6-4 two whatever pound center out hustles your guards for a rebound 15 feet from the basket it’s not a good look.
I'm thinking you're talking about Beers and Olsen. Had a perfect view of that unfold. I had already started looking down court to see if there was anyone for Lucy to pass to, lol, then I hear the crowd cheer. Not our day at all.

overly harsh.

She showed promise earlier in the season but has fallen off a cliff the last couple weeks.

She’s a freshman. She can improve
Didn’t her dad tweet something about her portalling up after the season?

Based on how her season did a complete 180 from that point on, it makes me think that’s what’s up.

I hope this season successes were not due to Bluder post-coach affect and next year sinks into an abyss with Jensen. I am trying to be patient with Jensen, but her coaching and strategy makes me very nervous. I just have a sense she is a great assistant and will not be an effective head coach. I hope I am wrong. That team today was not prepared to compete IMO.

Iowa loses its truly best player/scorer (Lucy) and best/consistent rebounder (Syd). An AA freshman (Deal) coming in but doubt she can be expected to carry the load like Lucy did this year. Also, Iowa will have freshman Hayes at the 5, Houston (who did not make first team all-state in Iowa) and would not expect major contributions from those two next year. So, if the current freshman/HS/portal and the head coach do not make major strides it could be a 25/26 disaster for Iowa women's BBall. Next year will tell rather JJ is the coach some folks think she is or not.

IMHO Iowa needs to add 2/3 experienced athletic players from the portal and HS has to get her s*** together at the 4 (or sit) to be competitive with the big dogs next year. IMO an organic roster will no longer work without utilizing the portal too. If the top teams are hiring portal players, then it is probably a good idea to be doing the same at Iowa (selectively).

All JMO from afar but today was depressing. Oklahoma is a very good team but not a great team, but they looked great today and Iowa looked scared and unprepared (unless they were all ill).

Crazy thing is FGCU gave OU a much better game, especially through three quarters. Felt really good about Iowa's chances after that. FGCU did a much better job on 50/50 balls and shot pretty well it seems now.

an intentional foul was called on this reverse layup

Exactly. She's leaning back becaise she shooting a reverse shot. Terrible call..

Syd's injury has nothing to do with this. I can't believe anyone would bring that up. She played her ass off the last month. How injured would she be from a simple scope anyway? Most of her rebounds come because she blocks out so well that alot of the balls hit the floor. She got worked, just like everyone else did today. Okie just played harder and with more purpose the we did, and we got. pushed around. Ava had two BIG problems. Literally NO ONE could throw her a pass into the post on time. And the refs let the Sooners two arm extended push her off the block. It was crazy, and no calls. She'd push back so hard she'd fall on her butt when they'd let up. We we'rent winning anyway, better to get Ava the experience, and as I said earlier, another reason she should have played more during the season against Betts and others.

Not making excuses for the coaching staff, but you have to wonder if Bluder could have done any better if Jan and Fitz were no longer on staff with her for this years’s team? Those 3 worked together for 25+ years. Not only was Jan taking on a new role as head coach, she was also getting used to coaching without Bluder and Fitz for possibly the first time in her coaching career.

For the record, I’d say Jan did well her first year as a head coach. Definitely room for improvement but like the players, I expect she’ll get better with experience. Like you alluded to, the next couple years we all expect to be better though as the players improve and more talent should come in (hs and portal). When this year’s freshman class are juniors and Deal is a sophomore is when I think we’ll have a better idea of how high Jensen’s ceiling is as a head coach.

Yep. Not having her ready to play some "learning minutes" against Betts and The Nebraska gal, was an error....

Questioning Jan's ability to be a head coach is getting old every time Iowa loses. She has 20+ years of assistant coach experience and if you don't think she had a hand in in game coaching during games under Bluder, then you haven't been paying attention. Houston injured her knee last year and as I recall didn't play early last season, but came on pretty well later on to help North get to state. She just scored 23 points in the Illinois/Iowa All Star game on Monday. I am willing to give her an opportunity to show what she can do next year and beyond before giving up on her. Too many fans (?) want wins or else the sky is falling.

Jan said yesterday she was looking to the Portal. Experience tells me there may be players that she could get, that she will not pursue because they won't fit in with what she wants as a student athlete.
