IOWA vs pokes dual thread

Cruz would have one well at the ol' 118.
Cruz would have been smaller relative to the competition in the old 118 days.
Back then you weighed in the morning or night before in cases.
A 118 pounder could weigh in excess of 130the day before and cut hard to make it in the morning and have all day and. Ight for duals to recover. For tournaments you had 4 to 6 hours to recover if you weighed in the morning.
If you had the 1/2 hour weigh in rule AND had a 118 class, then Cruz would benefit greatly.

WTF Award to Parco for acting like he won the Olympics when his job was to get a major. Did he not get the memo?
It wasn’t that bad. He was acknowledging the fans in his last Carver performance.
P.S. I'm going with Kennedy and Arnold for B1Gs. But Ferrari earned the right tonight to do whatever he wants.
Agreed. 100%

I completely agree. In Ben's defense he's wrestled 3 generational heavies this year but he's been absolutely destroyed and way out of his league. Not competitive in the slightest bit. I think people and fans can expect more out of a $500K a year guy who has freestyle credentials. And the bag he's getting almost drove Ayala to Okie State last off-season because he was criminally underpaid and has proven his worth by actually having results. I hope the best for Ben moving forward, but to expect him to be in the mix to win 3 national titles throughout the remainder of his eligibility would be naive. I hope he proves me wrong.

One of the worst takes this board has seen in a very long time. And that is really, really saying something.

Agree, Spooner! Of the top 10 heavyweights, 8 of them are wrestling on a COVID year. Just keep that in perspective when you are tearing Ben apart. Not an excuse, just a fact. Ben is up to 245 during the day and then he has wrestling practice. Thanks Spooner, I appreciate your response. Only 2 freshman in the top 20. SMH. Also, IBAHawkin, you are so wrong on Bens “money”. This is a new business and I am telling you, you are wrong. You are a piece of shit for even mentioning that when you have no idea what is truth.

The ONLY reason Ben was a national Butkis award finalist in high is because he is really fast and wrestles 🤣. Ferentz said he can get to 250 comfortably and not lose his speed. He was really good at track, Drake relays qualifier and place winner.

Give him a minute.

I am 100% positive I shouldn’t have to give “hawk fans” his resume, but here I am.

Some of you are really ruthless. God is SO good!

Can you imagine hiding behind a username, shitting on college kids and thinking you’re some sort of wrestling mind?

F*cking losers.

Think how miserable your life must be that you resort to insulting people anonymously on the internet to end your day.

This is the critical point, as far as I'm concerned. But for the one-time COVID rule, none of Kerkvliet, Steveson or Hendrickson would have any collegiate eligibility, not to mention Cohlton Schultz and a bunch of others. These guys have four or more years on Ben, and their strength and weight advantage is obvious. Kerkvliet, during his freshman year, was also getting horsed around by bigger guys like Cass and Shultz. Another year of maturation and strength-training will do wonders for Ben.

If I could change one thing on the heavyweight front, it would be to bring in more elite practice partners for Ben. I'm not dumping on Bobby, but he's just one guy and he's several years removed from serious competition. After watching last night's dual, I'm convinced that getting to roll on a daily basis with Buchanan has been great for Ferrari's development. I think Ben's development would accelerate with the same type of set-up.

just know that 99% of Hawkeye fans are not this classless and ignorant. sorry you have to deal with that 1% as i am sure it’s infuriating.

This was my exact thought after the dual. Angelo getting to wrestle with SB every day is huge for his development. Iowa needs the same for BK. Need a Big Tony back in the room (not so much little Tony). BK will without a doubt get bigger and better but he needs that iron sharpens iron type of partner.

Trust me when I say the vast majority of hawk fans are super supportive of Ben and his future at Iowa. My ONLY concern about him is splitting his time between 2 sports, but time will tell. He has only struggled this year with much heavier elite seniors. So did Kirkvliet his freshman year. Sometimes I wish message boards were required to be in person conversations because so many people would never say the things they do if not behind a keyboard. If you won’t say it don’t type it! Can’t wait to see Ben’s progression into next season!

Tony isn’t the right move. Aim higher. And bigger.

I was pleasantly surprised at How easily Drake tweaked his style just enough to frustrate Sakamoto and then once he scored his confidence started to grow and he took charge of the match and took care of business. I think the after match victory fist pump was the most display of emotion I've seen from Drake in a while and the crowd was so intense. What a great night at Carver for the Hawks.

Angelo wrestled perfect for that big moment. Sure, different fan bases will spin it differently.

OkSt fans might say the potentially dangerous stoppage when Angelo was near danger criteria was a hose job, or Plott needed only have done just enough to take it to TB rideouts. He more likely would've had he not got a questionable stall call. So they may conclude Plott could just as easily win a rematch.

But I saw enough to think Angelo was the better wrestler as well as better conditioned wrestler come SV after being ridden for a full period. I have no doubt going forward he won't be ridden like that again and he will get more to his offense in regulation time.

It'll be too bad if he doesn't get the opportunity to try to prevent the first 5-timer as he pursues his first as a would be 4-timer. That would be epic and guaranteed to be the last finals match. Selfishly, that's what most of the wrestling world want to see.

That said, I understand Angelo might be better off redshirting this year, even as that might mean Iowa isn't putting its best team on the mat despite there are no guarantees of future health and opportunity. I mean, some on here still complain Gabe should've had his red shirt pulled last year.

My Mom taught me early in life to never say anything about anyone I wouldn't say to their face. Flipping keyboard warriors would end up in a dumpster with a few broken bones lol.

Ben is a stud, I'm so glad he's a Hawk, and I look forward to seeing how is career pans out as a Hawk. I only see great things. This year is tough with such a ridiculously stacked weight class, but I only see this as a positive for him going forward. As others have shared, I think the one thing missing for Ben is to have at least one elite practice partner. He needs that just like any other kid does (Angelo said it perfectly last night), so I'm hoping the staff can get someone reigned in soon. Hell, there is a boatload of talent to choose from.

Make it a great day!

Sakamoto is very talented, but Drake wrestled a great match and he flat out broke him in the third. And yes, Drake was fired up, as he should've been, and I loved the fist pump.

Plott showed no ability to get in on Angelo’s legs while Angelo was in several times. Plott’s best advantage was to ride and hold on. That’s not a recipe for victory.

I posted on the Oklahoma st boards last week that I didn't expect Reece because if he lost he would lose his winning % and not allocate for the big 12 . I thought it would be Hughes but heard he is dinged up.
Seemed like it was still up in the air down to the last second? Took Sakamoto awhile to get to the mat and on tv you could see them waiting for him to come running down the tunnel…possibly once cruz got majored the plan changed? Just seemed to me like he was rushed and not really expecting to go
