Iowa WBB Class of 2026 Recruiting Thread

Of the 6 teams mentioned Iowa City is a 5 hour drive from her home in Wayzata Minn. I would hopefully think this could go into her decision as far as friends and family being able to come see her in person. I know it's a reach.

There is an article on on3 where MG comments on each school. Here’s my take:

Duke - seemed very excited; liked the girls and atmosphere
Kentucky - likes Kenny Brooks is PG coach and he has laid out how she’ll be used
Clemson - they rolled out the red carpet and will Be given the keys to offense as a Frosh.
Cal/UCLA- seemed more neutral and nothing stood out to me
Iowa - she kept saying it’s different. Seemed to be focused on the fact she knows IC and campus so well. Also said she wants to see how Jan does and Lisa retiring changes the dynamics,

I came away thinking iowa was in 4th…again just my read and could be wrong.

If this year's team has success it will give Maddyn and other recruits one more reason to look at Iowa.

. . . Now with a bunch of high profile players already committed, I feel like Greenway would be a good addition rather than a critical piece for our future.
Don't know that Greenway herself is a critical piece, but multiple Greenway-level (or Skinner-level) recruits, i.e McDonald's AAs, are needed if Iowa wants to remain a top level program (unless Addie Deal were somehow a second CC). And at present, Addie Deal is the only current/committed player who is a McDonald's AA level recruit or anywhere close to a McDonald's AA level recruit.

Certainly the comment of wanting to see how Jan does with this team is warranted and smart....

Tell me why they wouldn’t recruit a top 25 player whose parents graduated from Iowa? That makes no sense!
In my uneducated opinion, perhaps there's a concern on Iowa's part about her size and/or ability to play defense as a pg?
We're talking Molly Davis size, amirite.

How can anyone disagree with you? Larry Bird couldn’t jump, run or play defense. How did he ever make it to the pro’s?

My belief is that MG has been encouraged to take her time and pick the right fit. Iowa is obviously in the conversation but only MG knows for sure which way she is leaning and when she will commit. We all want her to be a Hawk but sometimes patience is a hard feeling to have.

Could be that MG was a fall back plan for Iowa, or Iowa was a fall back plan for MG....and both sides might eventually end up with each other. Ya never know.

I feel like if MG had really wanted to be a Hawkeye she already would be.
On the flipside only 1 top 60 recruit(espn) has committed. Greenway is committing in late November that’s still pretty early.. not Callie Levin early but early.

It’s hard to judge a player for wanting to take some visits.

MG started taking visits to meet with Iowa wbb coaches and players when she was in junior high. We were in on her pretty early and the feeling appeared to be mutual. In an interview back then, a reporter asked her how cool would it be for her to play for her home state with other girls from Minnesota and her response was along the lines of that’d be neat but I really want to play for Iowa. ☺️ That gave us as fans a lot of hope and invested interest that even tho she was young, maybe this was a Matt Gatens type of recruit that knew Iowa was where she wanted to be from the get go and was a potential early commit.

Even tho she was only a sophomore last year I think we were hoping there would be a commitment on the horizon based on how long we had been recruiting her but she seemed more unsure than when she was in junior high (understandably I might add), and was wanting to explore other options as more blue blood schools continued to offer her. The impression I got from reading this board the past few years was the offer is obviously still on the table and the door is not closed, MG will continue to weigh all her options, and Iowa still wants her but we’ve expanded our search as well as our confidence in nabbing her is not what it once was. I think giving her space to figure this out is probably the best thing Iowa could do for both parties involved to be honest.

Obviously back to back championship appearances give us more clout to go after high ranked recruits than when we first started to recruit Maddyn, so we could end up with a player of a very similar caliber to her in this class anyway. Prior to our recent success and Clark’s ascension to fame, I’m not as confident that would be the case. Even if she doesn’t commit to Iowa, it wouldn’t shock me if we got her through the portal for a year or two down the road. Iowa obviously holds a special place in her heart. And yes, this is all speculation on my part so feel free to interject those who have been following this a while as well.

Nothing encouraging on my end to report on Greenway. My last intel remains that Iowa is not her choice. I heard she was very high on Duke, but that certainly could have changed. Got to hand it to Jan and staff. They have been very confident that they would land another '25 and they did. It's important that Lucy Olsen has a big year on the court. From all reports, it appears she has certainly fit in with the team and is exercising her leadership. As much as we enjoy the recruiting talk, the portal is important in remaining prominent on a national level. Lucy's experience and results can go a long ways in keeping Iowa in the conversation for future transfers.
Back on Oct 14, 2024, hawkbuck70 reported this. That was ~2.5 weeks ago and after the Skinner commit to Duke.
Shikreto (no longer with us) has documented the accurate bullseye intel hawkbuck70 has brought us so far. Iirc, he has the last 16 of 16 correct. It's hard to go against the grain.

Although, just recently SkimMilkey, who i think had a perfect record, had the Ciara Byars commit backfire on him. So it's not impossible for these projections to go awry.

Pretty sure we did, for at least a couple of years. She certainly has an offer and has made probably 6-8 visits to Iowa. I think at this point the balls in here court though.....
We did. And you are right, they have left the ball in her court I believe. They can't force her to commit or I'm sure the would have. She said a few years ago she wanted to be a hawk, maybe that has changed maybe it really hasn't. I don't think anyone but her and her family really know

She's only really known Iowa with Caitlin Clark, so it makes sense for her to want to see what Jensen's team is going to look like. Some bad timing for those questions during her recruitment.

Agree that Iowa is setting up to have some good relationships with a lot players that may end up looking at joining the team down the road.

Wait, what happened to Shikreto? Did they get booted or something?

Shikreto's name has been converted to anon_salmfilsntd0b with a title of Guest.
His last post on this thread was ~Sep 13, 2024 on page 13. Actually it had some positive intel on Jenica Lewis I forgot about.

He seemed very invested here with intel. My gut tells me he was booted because there's a person on another forum who I believe is Shikreto under a different handle name there. He still does post there about Hawkeye activities. I believe it's him because I would see the same style and verbiage used there as here. It's how I found Rivals is by copying and pasting his sentences into search and drawing the connection. Plus, he didn't hide his preference here and that same preference is stated in his account bio over there. Left of left comes to mind. Seems a little more than a hunch that it's him.

I believe I read on a forum post somewhere that if you get excommunicated or delete the account your handle would change to anon_XYZ%^&* or something like that and your status to Guest. I just don't see him deleting his account here with all the time and energy he spent on post and intel. It's possible he deleted it, but I would give it <1%.

From what I have heard Kentucky and UCLA are front runners
Heard from who? Your prior statement was matter-of-fact: Iowa listed as a finalist is only a courtesy to her parents.

We all have opinions gleaned from recruiting stories and speculation posted on blog/fan sites; your post strongly implied firsthand info.

She may have lived in Minny her entire life but we all know what colors run through her veins. It's time for her to come home.

You normally tell high school girls to what they need to do.

Kind of weird.

I will stick with she needs to do whatever she wants with her life.

Of course she does. He's being a fan and hoping she'll come to Iowa. No one is really expecting to change her life decisions, like even if she read these posts it would effect her decision.....

I literally stood right next to Maddyn Greenway and spoke w/her for 1-2 minutes at a charity event one year ago (Oct 2023). My very close estimate has her at about 5' 5". No way she is the reported 5' 8". I agree with the poster above that said she is stockier with a more solid frame for major college ball than Davis.

That's not to suggest she wouldn't be a major get. She's obviously very talented and would be a major asset for the Hawks. If it's true that things have cooled between her and IA, I suspect it's more on her part that she's indicated she intends on going elsewhere rather than on the IA staff's part. And sadly, I suspect that is the case.

Most importantly though; she was super nice, humble, and engaging. I hope we get her but if not, best of luck to that impressive (based on my limited interaction) young lady!
