Is the Brands' era entering Zalesky level?

Yeah... umm... you don't see the difference in the situations here... AT ALL????
Of course, I do. But that's beyond the specific thing I was pointing out.

Because they're so good at what they do, their reputation is one that if a wrestler wants to be the very best then that's where the very best should go. The better they do the easier their recruiting becomes. It's grievous self-perpetuating formula that appears to be increasing in efficacy.

I thought we were going to break the cycle with the latest championship team with Spencer. But time and chance first yielded the '20 covid cancellation, the '21 win, but with PSU avenging of their losses at the B1Gs two weeks earlier by Eierman and Kemerer (along with 4 champs to our 1), and the '22 decimation by injuries upon a team the likes I have never seen. And now '23 yielded the unprecedented gambling ravaging of our team which only exacerbates the condition. The Ferrari debacle will only hurt, too.

There was invented the concept about Iowa football's RBs of the AIRBHG. Sometimes I tempted to replace RB with WT, that is, the Wrestling Team.

For the second time, that was not aimed at you. It was aimed at PSU trolls. Open your own synapses lest I have to explain it to you again.
Then maybe you should scroll back up a couple of comments and see for yourself how I came to this conclusion. Your comment was directly to me - "I set bait for PSU trolls and I catch you."

Dude, you are cracking me up, I think you missed the sarcasm in his post.

20 kids at $200 doesn’t go far. Hell 40 kids at that rate doesn’t hardly pay rent or cover cover expenses, eh?
Some get free spaces to use and also do privates. I know a few D1 guys making 100k running club at nights with 35-40 kids. Many D1 assistant jobs pay 1/2 of that. And I'm talking just NCAA qualifier type guys not AAs

Ya I guess I'm just obtuse because I fail to see any sarcasm when a comment is made to you, without any further reference that is supposed to be for someone else. At least Spooner knows how to use quotes and replies properly.

40 kids at $200 per month is $8000 per month or $96,000 per year before taxes. Then you throw in 4 summer camps per year and 9 more weekend camps (1 or 2 day holiday camps), it adds up.
I would say a summer camp makes an extra $5000 and the 1 or 2 day camps $1000 each.
So that's an extra $20,000 - $30,000 per year. Probably can bank on camp $$ going to insurance, taxes and facilities.

What $$$ amount would it take to get David Taylor, J'den Cox, or Kyle Snyder here as an assistant?
$250,000 plus camp money?

Does anyone know what the head and assistant wrestling coaches are getting paid on the top 10 teams?
Might help to get a more than competitive number
Tom & Morningstar or Terry??
Cael & Cunningham or Kyler Sanderson?
Bormet & Churella or Kevin Jackson?
Smith & Coleman Scott?
Brian Smith & Kendrick Maple??

All state universities contracts are public. You can look them up. I have looked at them before. Cant remember off top of my head . Most 200k or more. I believe Coleman got a raise leaving UNC

We'll never know PSU's salary. PSU is a state-affiliated university with a privately held charter. It is NOT a public university

DT would have an immediate impact on any program he went to. Cael and staff still have many years left so I am concerned that Taylor will eventually end up somewhere else. He has the accomplishments, personality and intelligence to be a very successful coach when the time comes, not to mention years of training under the master. As far as coming to Iowa, well as the saying goes, everyone has their price. Hopefully that number is out of reach, because I'm not sure I can live in a world where David Taylor is coaching at Iowa, lol.

I think David Taylor will get into D1 coaching when he's done competing and I think he'll be an excellent coach. Hopefully it's soon because I'd love for him to start taking recruits away from PSU.

But one did go back to his alma mater. Then he threatened to leave so they fired the head coach to give him his job. Soon after, he bailed and ran off to PSU when offered a bag of cash and the promise that his new wrestlers would be paid well. Guess who?

Does his name rhyme with Bael? Or Barl?

Teske already fully well knows their training methods. I doubt there is anything that new.

What they possess is something we cannot replicate. They are the masters of knowing exact strategies to win specific matches against us.

Makes ya wonder if Tom ever sat Teske down one on one and gathered as much Intel as possible on what's going on inside the PSU room. It seems like a no brainer and something that must have been done, but I wouldn't be shocked if he never did and has the egotistical mindset "we'll just worry about ourselves and stick to our methods".

lol. yeah. that NEVER happened.

It is easy to look at the performance disparity between Penn State and Iowa and throw stones. I wish Brands had Carver-like money so that we could compare apples to apples.

I will say, however, that Brands is not doing himself any favors by seemingly not giving close to 100% effort in his press conferences and public appearances. His appearances do not reveal any energy--let alone positive energy-- and it is apparent that he has no interest in giving any aforethought to public communication. It may not mean squat inside the room or in recruits' living rooms but as the face of an important Iowa institution, it is disappointing and it makes it harder to defend Michigan-like performances and a very high salary.

I get what you're saying but watching Sanderson I don't think he's putting all of his cards out there. He comes across as rather laid back and says the right things but I don't think he's any more engaging than other coaches.

My crystal ball says - Taylor to Ohio State & tears in Happy Valley.

Penn State is required to report the salaries of all officers and directors as well as the 25 highest-paid non-officer employees. The most recent report is from 2022. Cael was not on the top 25 list, so all we know is that his salary for 2022 was under $473,314.

Tale of the tape:

Gable (21 seasons): Avg NCAA pts/yr: 120.8. Avg NCAA placement/yr: 1.57. Avg champs/yr: 2.1

Zalesky (9 seasons): Avg NCAA pts/yr: 91.3. Avg NCAA placement/yr: 3.33. Avg champs/yr: 1.1

Brands (16 seasons): Avg NCAA pts/yr: 92.0. Avg NCAA placement/yr: 3.19. Avg champs/yr: 0.8

Zalesky won 4 team titles in 9 seasons. Brands has won 4 team titles in 16.

Zalesky coached 8 individuals to 10 NCAA titles in 9 seasons. Brands has coached 8 individuals to 13 titles in 16 seasons.

Brands is very good at being in the top 4, but less good at winning team titles or developing individual champs.

Ouch.

Soooo… yeah. We’re in Zalesky territory. Fudge
