Iowa came out slow and played like ass the entire game. Do you think these 18-21 year olds are generally fatigued or what?

I do think they invested a lot physically and emotionally in the Illinois game, Definitely didn’t bring the intensity tonight.

Blown off court like Depaul game. They weren't tired after Depaul game. There are no excuses for giving up 104 pts and around 60 in 1st half with your starters playing.

It's the defense that occasionally goes limp that is the issue.
The danger of trying to run an up-tempo offense is not grabbing rebounds and allowing too much space when you're on defense. It didn't look like Iowa had a lot of respect for the Purdue offense. Iowa thought they could control the game through their offense but they forgot to play d, grab the rebounds and close off space on the perimeter. Made a poor offense look like the best offense in the B1G. Game gets away from you quick if you don't do those basic things. Hopefully they learn from this game.

It's concerning only in the sense Fran has had a lot of Iowa teams play poorly in February. It'll be interesting to see how they respond to this. Losing to a team just above .500 that badly is pretty embarrassing. Hopefully they're competitive pride will show up next game.

This is true. The big wins vs good teams Joe T and/or Kriener and/or Connor has made just enough shots to account for teams focusing on Luka, Weez, and CJ.

I know Pemsl is a lightning rod and it drives me crazy how people ridicule him, but it kind of pisses me off that Fran didn’t basically insist that he develop confidence to shoot the stand still, ball rotates to you, wide open three. It’s the one weapon a broken, old man body can wield. Cordell has a fundamentally sound shot, nice release, made threes in high school. Shoot the fûcking ball so teams will at least consider coming out to you!

Just a little or BIG wakeup call on defense for these kids. I expect a better more focused defensive effort the rest of the way.

I also think that Fran should use TOs like NBA guys do to stop runs much, much sooner. I know this is not a unique thought here.
Other thing is somebody off the bench needs to add toughness. Pemsl needs to channel the Pemsl that used to seem intent on disruption. Joe T can’t be our only prick. Connor needs to stay out of trouble. Kriener just isn’t that guy. Can we have Pemsl come in all piss and vinegar again?

Agree but double bye in the BTT is not and more importantly, an NCAA seed that gives us a realistic shot at a sweet sixteen sure isn’t. Another 9 or below seed after this start would be profoundly disappointing.

I have no idea why Conner and Joe T are ever in the game at the same time! No outside threat, defense collapses so no spacing or opportunities for the bigs. Not sure what happened to Evelyn after Cincy but he is tentative and missing wide open 3s. This team needs JBo or Nunge because they can actually shoot. Of the guys getting time here’s who teams leave wide open Joe T, Conner, Evelyn, Pemsl, Kreiner. Only shooters are CJ, Joe W, and Luka in that order. Too bad two of the best shooter are injured.

this is the answer. That Sunday game was a grinder. A win at Purdue was gonna be a long shot, a few days later, plus travel. And guess what, believe it or not, these guys also have College to navigate as well.
