Isu signs Matt Campbell

Always good to see ISU competitive. Makes the Iowa/ISU game much more interesting.

For all the crap we give ISU, where would you rather live? A stones throw from Des Moines, or in the middle of god forsaken Nebraska. $3.5M is not too bad considering that ISU will be thrilled with consistent 7-5 records and an occasional 8-4 record. Long term job stability should be good there.

It is, what, a 20 minute difference Lincoln to Omaha and Ames to Des Moines? But I guess you are probably considering Ankeny as DM. Might be other good reasons, but this is one of the silliest I've seen, considering Lincoln is 200k+ and Ames is 60k.

and you choose to be a fan of ISU... even more puzzling. Missouri Valley? Depending on your age...you may know a bass player friend of mine.
When I was there, the bass had not yet been invented. But maybe I knew his grandfather. Name?

I think Lincoln is well over 300,000. I'll look it up. Wait a second.....280,364 as of last year.

LOL, I'm no millennial. We're talking class of 78 or 79 probably. Bob Tjarks.
Nope, Tjarks is not a name with which I'm familiar. Don't think there were any when I was there -- class of '64 -- or if there were, they were keeping a low profile.

What is your name? I graduated Missouri Valley High School. Dan Johnson.
Mike Deupree. I graduated 1964. Lived on 8th Street about a block and a half north of what was then the high school. My parents owned a mobile home park, Sunnyside Village. Before that they owned the Sunnyside truck stop. My little sister graduated in '72.

Ok. I lived on Michigan St. Half a block from the old HS. My dad owned the Dairy Sweet. I also had a sister graduate in 72.

Was the Dairy Sweet on Highway 30 between Sunnyside and town, on the east side of the highway? When I was there, the only option was the Dairy Den on the west side of town. I'm thinking there was a restaurant -- Thumbs? -- in roughly the same area that also was built after I departed the scene.

Correct on the location. I think Fargo Eller (sp?) had a trailer park right behind it. My dad bought it in 1967. Sunnyside was a busy place at one time. Ate and hung out there many times. Haven't been back in years. Live in CA.

Yeah, the food at Sunnyside was good. It also was open 24 hours,so it was the only place in town you could get something to eat after the bars closed. This led to some interesting moments. The truck stop was just outside the city limits, so my Dad paid to have the city cops deputized by the county so they would have jurisdiction.

Nice thing about your parents owning a truck stop: you never had to pay for gas.

Missouri Valley was a nice place to grow up. But there were plenty of outlaws hanging around too. I don't know if it was Everett Gochenour and Merle Sass you are referring to. But they had their hands full. At one time my dad was a cook at the old Soda Grill long ago.

Absolutely Everett Gochenour and Merle Sass. Everett had a daughter in my class and a son in the class ahead of me. Merle was there forever.

The Soda Grill....wowser. That goes 'way back. Across the street from the J&M Cafe, which later became Duke's pool hall. I'm thinking the Soda Grill closed when I was still living in town, but I'm not sure about that. Good breakfast place.
