I'm not sure he was worth the the buyout. BM is the better coach but it may take a bit longer to get there with him. DD will take some players with him to Indiana which would have helped Iowa in the immediate future but even then there was no guarantee those players would come.

The time for Iowa to go after DeVries was last year. Instead, they chose to waste another year on Fran.
Frankly, I don’t think it’s going to matter. Iowa does not have the financial resources apparently to become competitive in basketball at a national level. DeVries or McCollum would just produce 1990s Tom Davis results.

Might as well shut the basketball program down and put all available resources into football.

Well kudos to devries agent leveraging the Iowa job to get the deal he got with IU. Will be fun to see who they are going after in 5 years when he doesn’t meet their fan bases expectations.

The money gap isn't that bad vs WV factoring in upcoming revenue share I hope. As in Iowa / Big Ten rev share light years ahead of WV much more future potential. Maybe we can ask the Drake AD to pick our next coach and save the trouble of having to wait another year and pay more.
Yes. I think today was a defining moment for our program based on what we learned about our finances. No amount of us poor Iowa fans paying into NIL are going to change that regardless of what Rico thinks either. It takes large boosters/donations/corporations. We don't have it. That's what we learned today. We're not a competitive program any longer in a dying sport.
Michigan is buying Freeman for 1.7 million. Our entire team was apparently worth 1.5 last year with him on it. Devries couldn't compete with a reasonable request of 4.2 million in NIL. WVU is worth twice our programs worth and yet, they're gutted now. Yeah, that's pretty much it. It's uh, a sad day. Ah well. I was really hoping this hire would bring me back in the fold with Iowa MBB. Yet, it doesn't matter who'll be coaching us apparently. It's an utterly shit day.

It’s just not going to matter who the coach is. Beth was obviously unprepared to meet the demands of what it’s going to take to make Iowa basketball a winner.

I agree. Beth had a full year to prepare for this scenario. This is a glaring indictment of our programs true standing. She frankly doesn't have much to sell to prospective buyers it appears outside of being in one of the last two remaining conferences over the next decade or so. Today was a bad day for an already on the brink program. Worse yet, I had no idea it was this bad. I literally thought yesterday I could wake up to Devries accepting the job.
It's Arkansas and UM from what I heard on the radio today. Arkansas at 900k and Michigan at 1.5 to 1.7.
Look at Iowa's W/L record the last 10 Years big brain, Iowa is a solid top 25 Team in the Country in football by the only metric that matters

Doesn’t inspire much confidence that Beth can make a good football coach hire when the time comes. It’s her job to nurture relationships to get the NIL in place. Apparently she’s failing. The b-ball program has been dogshit for 30+ years. I guess we can expect more of the damn same.
