It comes down to Rutgers and Iowa for

It's game day boys & girls. ❤️🏀❤️
Iowa still has a lot to prove. No offense but it goes about 2 games beyond Rutgers.

Iowa needs to beat a top team or 2 this season & Rutgers doesn’t fit that bill.

We need to beat Illinois, Wisconsin, or Purdue before the tourney. It’s time to beat a somebody.

So you understand the importance of this game, right? To get a shot at Illinois you have to beat Rutgers and that’s assuming Indiana doesn’t pull off a huge upset.

If Iowa was to reach Sundays game it won’t have much of an impact for the seeding. The committee will have their seedings pretty much locked in. That’s one disadvantage of the BTT ending on Sunday, it’s great for TV but it’s too late to move the needle for anyone win or lose.

It should end on Saturday.

Yeah, it’s a HUGE game that the committee is not paying any attention too but it’s a money maker for television being one of the few games on. At that point it’s all about the trophy and being able to cut down the nets. It would be incredible to see Iowa just play in that game let alone win it. But let’s get Rutgers first, they are going to be giving Iowa everything they got as they are playing for their NCAA tournament lives.

I think they have it “locked in” in the sense that the bracket is like 99% set, but I think I’ve read quotes before where they have placeholders.

For example, if Penn State is in the final (and they wouldn’t make the NCAAs if they didn’t win), they’d leave a spot for PSU in one region that works logistically and have a contingency plan to shuffle another Bubble team into another region should PSU lose and not earn a bid.

A less obvious example might be in the event of a, say, Illinois/Wisconsin final. They might know those teams are going to be the 2 and 3 but award the 2 to the winner. I think in Iowa’s case, however, it’s as simple as making it to Sunday. Should Iowa make it to the final, I imagine they’ll award them a 5 seed or something and not really care if they win the BTT.

It is a HUGE ratings draw for the conference, though. The two most watched games last season were Iowa/Illinois in the BTT semifinals (2.9 million) and Illinois/OSU in the final (3.9 million). Viewership for the Illini/OSU game crossed SIX MILLION in overtime as we got up against the Selection Show. I can see why the Big Ten wants to keep that slot.

Yes, they do have “placeholders” in the event an upset happens like Penn State pulling off a miracle. But let’s say Indiana were to make the final, the committee would already have them locked in even though they’ve been considered a bubble team. Iowa was in a similar situation in 2001 and again in 2005, Iowa was a bubble team heading into the BTT and we’re a lock by the time before they played the final. Iowa won 1 (2001) and lost the other (2005) but both teams were in the dance.

That was interesting… made me wonder if they retroactively did not allow the final 3-pointer. Writer just blew it, I think.

I am nervous that everyone shot so well yesterday… can we keep everyone shooting that hot for 2 games in a row? I have my doubts.

Hopefully a couple guys can stay hot and our defense comes through.

Good luck on Selection Sunday, smart-ass. Hope you avoid the First Four. Enjoy watching the rest of the BTT.

Lol you lost to a sub 300 team. And to the worst team in the league that was playing without their best player and two other starters. Every game counts.
