James Daniels will enter NFL draft...He gone.

Sounds like James had the announcement up on his Instagram but took it down in favor of an official announcement on Friday. Certainly have to think hes moving on.

Eff a degree. Go get them bank rolls while they're available.

Age / risk is the enemy. As a finance guy I know that cash received today is more valuable than the same amount of cash received a year from now. If he would not vault up to a top 10 pick next year go man go. Take the $$$ and run.

I’m really surprised by this. He’s shown potential but I haven’t see anything that’s told me he’s NFL ready or even close to it.

But the fact is that people who get paid to evaluate talent disagree with that statement, which is why he's probably going to go.

Here is Daniels' statement if you can't pull up Instagram at work, etc.

"My decision to attend the University of Iowa has been the best decision of my life," Daniels said in a statement. "I have had an incredible college experience with memories I will always cherish. I am grateful for my UI family and the connections will last a lifetime."

"After praying about this and discussing the options with my family and coaches, I have decided to declare for early entry in the 2018 NFL Draft."

"To Coach Ferentz, thank you for taking a 17-year old kid and shaping me into the man I have become. To my position coaches, Brian Ferentz and Tim Polasek, thank you for being instrumental in my development. To Coach Doyle and the strength staff, thank you for molding me into the football player I have become."

"I would like to express my gratitude to the university academic staff for their support. I have a few classes left to complete my degree and I look forward to representing the University of Iowa in the NFL and beyond."

"Thank you Iowa City and Hawkeye Nation!"

Do I think he's NFL 'ready'? Not quite, he has had some whoops moments. But it's so clear how talented he is and how well he played at times. A stellar senior season would probably at best bounce him up to the end of the first round. If he's already a projected 2nd rounder the decision was easy.

Good for him. Extremely athletic, but needs to get tougher and quickly. Age wise like a redshirt sophomore coming out. Kid amongst men right now.

I was expecting Josh Jackson to go, James Daniels is a surprise. It will hurt the OL next year but as always I wish him the best and hope he gets big $$ in the NFL which should help future Hawkeye recruiting.

Big thanks to both he and his older brother. Good luck.

I agree on the opportunity to get paid. And I know people way more knowledgeable than me have him second round, but I will be really surprised if he goes that high.
That hole in the OLine just got a lot bigger.

All Big 10 Pat Elflein(OSU) went in the 3rd round last year. He was a guard that converted to center...so he too, was "versatile" and athletic. I don't see Daniels going much earlier than 3rd round. BTW, Elflein started as a rookie on the Vikings OL.

I don't blame any kid that wants to go get paid especially with all we know now about how injuries and CTE can end your career even sooner. An NFL life span is so short so if they think they are going to be drafted in the first couple of rounds, go do it.

That sucks. I wonder why? Seems like he could have competed for a starting spot. Or maybe he is just done with football.
I think in the last year he's been passed by numerous players after starting a game or two last year.

I wish Daniels all the best going forward. I know we go with the whole next man up thing but whoever steps in will lack experience. I guess James was relatively inexperienced at Center prior to this season. Sure hope the staff can get this figured out and thag we have a great new C on the roster.

if I recall he had an unusual amount of penalties called on him this year. hope he does well and doesn't regret that extra year of training under Doyle and KF

Not only did he start, but he kicked ass. You know how I know that? Because you never heard his name during a game. Riley Reiff has been one hell of an addition for the Vikes O-Line as well. They were garbage last year and have been really darn good this year. Heck of a turnaround. Some Mock's have the guy that took Elflein's place at fOSU being the Vikes top pick at the end of the first round, and probably move him to Guard.
