Hill transferring tells you that the staff feels Lainez to have the better future.

But Hill took the reps as the #1 in the spring. That tells you all you need to know. At that time, Lester had Hill ahead of Lainez
They also brought in Sully to back up Cade. Hill would have been QB3 at best after fall camp.

In order to install an offense to the benefit of the other players on offense, not because he was ever going to play Hill and not because of any evaluation above and beyond who could run his offense better during install. Stop trying to use that as a stick to say Lester can't evaluate QB talent. Good Lord!
A little trouble following the thread have ya?

Not at all trying to say Lester can't evaluate QB talent. My original post was in response to Hawkeyenuts66, who was trying to call out KF for having played Hill. So I informed him that Lester also had Hill ahead of Lainez in the spring.

Whether Hill was ever in the plans to play or not is besides the point.

Wouldn't Lester want to use the the QB that he had graded higher to install the offense? Of course the QB that can get through his progressions better is going to be of more benefit to his teammates on offense. That's what quarterbacking is. Lester didn't have Lainez taking #1 reps. It's fair to say that he didn't have Marco ahead of Hill at that point

Back in the spring, Lester mentioned a couple times that the first thing he would do is make his own evaluation on the players.

In this clip, at about 7:40, Lester is asked if Hill is getting the reps as QB1. Lester confirms Hill to be repping with the 1's and cites Hill's ability to better get through the progressions than an inexperienced Marco
Yeah, this is the clip I assumed you were talking about last night.

Instead of narrowly focusing on whether Hill can go through a progression more comfortably or whatever else, watch your clip from 5:28 and especially pay attention around 7:02. Lester isn’t talking about Hill being better than Lainez, it’s just about who can move the offense forward as if Cade were the starter.

Lester never stated Hill was the better, more talented QB, he only explained his rationale as to why Hill was running with the ones at that specific time.

Below is the Dochterman & Liestikow conversation about this as well.

You know what else Lester never did? He never gave the #1 reps to Lainez.

If anything, Lester may have hinted that Lainez was the more talented QB. But that isn't relevant to this conversation. Lester clearly stated that Lainez was behind Hill at that point in terms of getting through progressions.

It doesn't matter what Lester was trying to have QB1 accomplish in terms of installation. He's going to use the guy that is grading out the best to do that.

What do you mean don't focus on the comment about progressions? That's what quarterbacking is. That's why Lester had Hill running with the 1's. Again, he never said that Hill was a more talented QB. Just that Hill was ahead at that point. If Lester would have had Lainez ahead at that point, then he would have ran him out there with the 1's. It's pretty simple.

There is nothing to say that Lester didn't have the same initial evaluations of Hill and Lainez as KF did last year

It's all just so sad
