Jbo, nunge, cj, cm...

I'll sing Nunges praises when he learns how to secure a damn rebound and stops letting players a foot shorter than him take it away.

That was utterly pathetic today the way they let that guard dominant the glass.

They let a 6'5 guard get 18 ****ing rebounds.

Sure, but he also pulled down 8 rebounds and 23 minutes so he outpaced all Hawkeyes in rebounds per minute by a good bit. I guess 13 or 14 rebounds would be better. Nunge was not the issue today.

I thought Nunge was great other than too many outside shots. Connor didn’t hurt or impact the game.

We lost because they shot 50% from three and we were probably below 20%. Also, we got slaughtered on the boards. So disappointed we couldn’t shoot it better for the game of the year.

Toussaint needs much more playing time when Jordan can’t hit threes and against quicker penetrating guards.

Forget the shooting, that sucked but could have been overcome.

The rebounding was what lost the game and Nunge is the biggest culprit. His inability to just grab a rebound instead of fumbling it all over the place is atrocious.

At this point I want way more Keegan than Nunge.

That is a very pathetic statistic. 18 fricking rebounds to a guard. Wow.

Well if their 6-5 guard could get 18 rebounds why can’t ours get 5 or 6? Rebounding is a team effort. Everyone needs to participate. Joe W had a solid effort on the boards but Connor, Frederick, etc need to do more, way more.

"The" issue no, there were multiple.

His inability to secure rebounds that were in his hands was huge.

We just weren't hitting 3s, its as simple as that. Most teams will double/triple Garza, if we dont hit 3s we will struggle. Other than TJ & maybe Wezzy, the rest can't create their own shot.

It's not at all "as simple as that". We shot poorly largely because their defense caused us to rush shots. Our defense didn't return the favor. It almost never does.

This is not the first team that scored over 50 on us in the first half. Go count the number of times that happened last year. Hitting 3's or not, we aren't going to score 100 against any good teams. The question is "how many teams are we going to let score 100 on us"?

Not Bohannon's day obviously but not worried at all. He will win some games for Iowa down the road.

Two main reasons for loss IMO.....
1. Jalen Suggs' bombs; and
2. Iowa's poor FT shooting

Suggs hit 7/10 3PT shots, Iowa made 14-26 FTs.

Its an exaggerated oversimplification ....but... if Suggs hits "only" 50% of his 3PT FGAs and Iowa makes at least 70% of its FTs then Iowa wins by 1. You can play "what ifs" all night I guess but going forward Iowa has to do much better than 54% at the FT line.

Rebounding was the number 1 reason Iowa lost that game.

Poor offense in the first half and terrible 3pt shooting overall was the second reason.

Free-throw shooting 3rd.

Gonzaga has a great offense, it didn't really matter how their points came. They're going to get those points on everyone.

The normal Iowa offense gets 100 in that game with half ass decent rebounding.

Pretty disappointed in these guys today. Hopefully they learn from this. Still a lot of basketball, it wasn't like they were going to go undefeated anyway, but man that one hurt. Now on to the big ten
agree with everyone but nunge . he played just fine.

Iowa should have scored 100 in this game with the pace it was played at.

Zags defense was pretty much a seive in the second half.

Iowa got mentally shook by all the 3s Gonzaga was hitting and basically panicked and played stupid for a big part of the first half.

Nunge either is weak or plays weak. The shooting issue is a bad shooter that shoots every he gets the ball anywhere in a shooting position. If he learns to work inside and develops some offensive patience he could become a reliable scoring threat but all that he has shown thus far is the gunner's mentality of shoot it often regardless of position.

Jake has the potential to be a good rebounder, possibly a great rebounder because he is pretty quick to the ball. If he learns to get better position and hold 'em high and tight we might have something there.

The kid should never be on the floor with Luka and Luka should almost never be off the floor. Making playing time for Nunge by sitting Luka is nuts. Playing them together looks ugly and takes Luka out of his prime scoring position-like Luka and TC playing simultaneously hurt both their games. Luka needs the entire interior space to maximize his scoring opportunities and maximizing Luka's scoring opportunities seems like the very game plan for this team.

Zags were the better team, but if the Hawks make 3/4 of their FTs and rebound on the defensive end, the game is close, despite not being able to buy a 3. The early foul call on CJ on the steal attempt by Suggs was a big play in the game. Call could have gone either way IMO, and it put CJ on his heels early. The team really was hurt when he sat for much of the first half. Suggs is the real deal!

Man we’ve got some real dumb mofo’s in here thinking nunge was the reason for this loss. Jbo played freaking atrocious and contributed absolutely nothing, I think that would be a good place to start the blame game. And maybe instead of blaming nunge for a guard getting 18 rb’s you should blame the guards on our team for not boxing his ass out!

I thought both calls in the first half against CJ were bogus. Took him out of The game, and His game.

Saying "the reason" is dumb.

No one is saying anyone was "the reason." Pay attention. Everyone is listing off a whole shit load of reasons.

When you're 6'11 and under the basket you grab the fvcking rebound and you hold onto it. Period.

You don't let people underneath you knock it free.

There were a few possessions on offense where the shot went up and Iowa was already moving into transistion. I wonder if some of it wasn't cooked in by coaching and trying to beat out Zagas transition offense?
If it was, it sure didn't help. They beat us down the court most of the game....... :(

Not true Rock and Roll, Nunge seems to be getting the Petras treatment on here, and he was solid yesterday off the bench, especially I the 2nd half. His ill advised shots hurt us in the 1st half but so did Pat and Keegan. Almost had a double double out there. Luka, Nunge, and Joe W got almost all of our rebounds yesterday. Connor is 6-5, he needs to be a force on the boards in games like this. Their 2 guard got 18 rebounds. But keep making Nunge the whipping boy.

He launched way too many 3s, which he missed on all of the shots. Otherwise he played alright. He, like all of the team, need to block out much better.

He missed TWO three point attempts. You make it sound like he was launching them up every time down court. I thought Nunge had a decent game, but like the rest of the team, his shots just weren't falling.

Might not hurt to remember Nunge has only played around a dozen games in the last 2+ years. He is going to be a BIG asset for us this yr, and an upgrade over what kriener provided last year.

If they treat this loss correctly this could end up being the most valuable game of the year...

I guess I did not see what you saw.

After re-watching the game, ill eat some crow on Jacks rebounding.

He wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. He has struggled to secure rebounds often in the past but not as much last game.

He actually was matched up on Ayayi allot in man and did lose a few rebounds he could have had but the specific plays I was thinking of were actually Patrick.
