Jan Jensen = Angie Lee

Great assistant. Not a great coach.

We all knew this team would regress without Clark, but we didn’t think it would be this much. Just think if Lucy Olsen didn’t come here which happened when Bluder was still the HC.

This is a NIT team at best. They were projected a 9 seed in the NCAA before the loss today.

The Big Ten is loaded and if Iowa can’t win these non ranked games they are cooked.

Should have hired Jennie Baranczyk. She would have came home in a heartbeat.

Jan is a nice person and great assistant, but he’s not a HC.
Well.................. losing the 33+ points and 9 assists a game doesn't help as we all know. Also lost in the mix is the leadership that Kate and Gabby stepped on the court with. Three huge holes that I'm not sure Coach Bluder would have been able to mend this year either.

5 game losing streak, likely to be 6 in the coming days. How long has it been since they’ve had that many? I read we had 4 in 2013.

Of course she wouldn't. In fact, with a typical Team Bluder defense, results this year might have been a lot worse.

Well they went to the Sweet 16 and finished 7th in the final AP Poll in Angie’s first season, so I don’t think we can jump to conclusions based on year one.

It’s rough right now, let’s give Jan a chance. If anything I think this season shows how underrated Caitlin Clark was regarding making her teammates better.
Yes, but there’s also no Monica, Warnock, Kate, or even a Gabbie on this roster ‘at the moment’. Some fresh will get there.

It’s been an interesting and for me at least fun year watching both Jan and the team develop. Moving from assistant coach to head coach is not a seamless transition, Add in following Lisa and back to back National Championship game appearances and you know Jan felt a ton of pressure. I remember Jan pleading with the fans to not give up on the team after the losing streak.

It’s easy as fans, Me included to overlook some of the challenges the team had, Lucy coming in as a scoring guard and being tasked with learning Iowa’s offense and also running the show on offense when she likely didn’t have a full grasp of the offense herself. Syd missing time and really needing time to get her game back to her standards, When Syd and others struggled turning to the freshmen was really the only option and while talented they are still freshmen who will be inconsistent. At times you would watch the team on offense and wonder what the hell are they doing, The players and staff probably wondered the same thing.

Anyway as a fan you want to see growth, You want to see the team playing much better in late February than they did in early January. You watch the team on offense now and you see growth, You see cohesiveness, The shots may not always fall but you see what they are attempting to do.

While there have been struggles I think Jan has been successful in transitioning to head coach, It seems to me she feels pretty comfortable in the role now and has her own vision for the program and it’s not trying to be a Lisa Bluder clone. She seems comfortable with being Jan. She has made mistakes and will make mistakes but like the team I think Jan has grown and is a better coach late in the year than she was early on. If she can land a couple of the 26 recruits I think the future looks promising.

Hawks have won 7 of 9 and with razor thin losses to two of the best teams in the country. This is the same team that lost 5 in a row in January.

Quite a turnaround. Sounds like good coaching to me.

🥳 yeah….. you know the most frustrating thing about threads like these, and I know they upset you as much as me. But these are grown men who say petty, shitty things and afterwards get to say oh “I was upset or oh I was just emotional“ you don’t get to do that shit without coming back and saying I’m sorry or I was a little out of control or I got carried away…

That’s why they need to be held accountable in my opinion.

I get pissed off sometimes, I got pissed off the other day about a couple things on here, but I circle back around and even said I was out of line. And the biggest thing is their “desired coach” is typically off somewhere else losing. lol it really is comical….

Which is why those on the other side of the issue are petty & search these threads out and bump them back to the top.😂😂😂

Now that this got bumped up by others to show the smallness and shortsighted behavior of the typical message board fan. I just now noticed hell you signed up just to post this tripe…LOL

How are you feeling now… I see Jenny B has lost six games down there at Oklahoma as well.

🤦🏻 people never learn, the internet is forever and all the world is there to see your dumbness 🤷‍♂️

Are you feeling superior now?

Nice post! And your kinder than sometimes I want to be. As fans we also need to learn when people like this sign up just to say this crap and then disappear off the face of the Earth. There ought to be a holding pattern in which their tripe can’t even show up for several days. These are grown men….

Really sad actually

It’s always funny to see the shitty types circle back around and get mad because you called them out for their boorish 🤪 and then pretend like you’re to blame, lol

Counterpoint is that this is just a tiny little corner of the internet where mostly grown men post their thoughts with each other. No one is standing outside the coach's house or the arena yelling things at anyone. Or, at least, I hope not. What gets posted here is of no actual significance and should not get anyone too frustrated or pissed off. My 2 cents.

We all just post our opinions, Some are trolls and easy to ignore, Everyone views life and sports through different lenses. Someone may see things the total opposite of how I see things but it is their opinion. I read some posts and think that wasn’t very well thought out or is just plain stupid, I’m sure some read my posts and think the same thing. The bottom line is the vast majority of posters commenting here are fans invested in the WBB program and they want to see the program succeed, We just have different perspectives.

You’re exactly right, if you don’t mind looking like an impetuous idiot that has no emotional control and no real insight or perspective of what you’re seeing on TV then yes by all means look like an idiot….🤷‍♂️

And I mean that 100% it’s not really that big a deal. But I most assuredly would be embarrassed to have people thinking. “Holy shit is this guy stupid, it’s like he’s never seen a damn game before.?! “

But I’m gonna tell you what I’m perfectly OK with, is people thinking..”man this guy is really an asshole. It’s like he doesn’t realize how naturally stupid & whiny most fan are are lol”

Very smart, very kind. Unfortunately, there are probably 500,000 to 1,000,000+ books out there discussing mental health, positive forces versus negative forces and trying to shut out the bitterness and negativity and how badly it affects people….

I appreciate you being more willing to give people a pass, but we all have to be accountable for what and how we say things and that includes me. I certainly stir things up sometimes, but everyone should have someone in their life saying “holy shit man that’s a really shitty take..”

Just my opinion. You’re a good poster though. Right there in the middle, very perspective!

Well to be clear, I was referencing posters in general, not me. I don't believe I have been impetuous or have looked like an idiot. At least not on the WBB - the off topic board is another beast entirely. One other thing I will say is that the posters here on the WBB are super sensitive, in my opinion. I don't know if that is a function of the women toiling in relative anonymity over the years where only the super positive super fans participated on the WBB, or what. With all of the new attention and interest, not all of it will be positive. Welcome to high profile high interest sports.

Me neither & super sorry if I indicated that. And I have no preconceived notion that I am not a real jackass to certain people and even though I 100 % think they have it coming and someone has to do it. 🙄🤓🤪🤷‍♂️ I also know it’s shitty behavior on my part.

You are a better more friendly poster than me

The glue factor with Martin was huge. It'd be interesting to see her effect with the current players.

What bothers me the most regarding some of the really negative or even hateful posts about our players and coaches is that these things get back to them. I don't like it for Jan, but she knows it goes with the job, but some of these young ladies are 18 and 19 and they don't need to hear it.

Edit: I never had a daughter, but it would hurt me if I read some of these comments.

This thread aged poorly because too often people post with emotions and don’t think things through.
Yes, there is disappointment w the number of losses. Would Lisa w 25+ plus years of experience had a few less, probably but even Lisa last year w the goat lost a few games probably wish back.
At the start of the year, hoping to go 12-6 in Big10. Going to below that but still above .500 and definitely improving during the year. Iowas record is a whole lot better than Fennelly and Cyclones who were picked top 10 coming in.

Its social media. Fans get to say what they want - I get that.

But it does bug me that fans are so reactionary. They watch a few games and then make harsh claims about coaches and players. I just can't get my head around fans being so quick to judge.

EVERYONE thought Jan was a good hire a year ago. In January, it was a mistake to hire her. Oh well .....
