Jimmy Carter passes

RIP

Of the many presidential bios and memoirs I’ve read, none match his with respect to the level of political naivety that came through.

No it didn't but it did lose the Democrat strangle hold on rural America and flipped it to the Rs...
Yeah I was sort of wondering whether I had forgotten the part about the popular revolution in the ussr in the 70s. And it’s not like Andropov succeeding Brezhnev in 81 reflected some sort of popular liberalization

You serious, Clark?
I’m 100% serious. Every thread immediately turns into partisan sniping. The man served as an officer in the United States Navy. And regardless of what anyone thinks of his presidency, he did more humanitarian work than any other former President in my lifetime.

If there’s a Heaven, I hope he’s up there eating peanuts and sipping sweet tea.

Well, me too.

But that doesn't mean I can't take a parting shot about the "wearing sweaters" thing.

Yeah, what a dumbass he was. In the first days of his term in office we faced brutally cold weather and natural gas shortages that forced widespread school closings. And he had the audacity to suggest that people turn down their thermostats a couple degrees and put on warmer clothes.

What kind of moron thinks that Americans would be willing to make small sacrifices for the greater good?

And then the "malaise" speech, and then he was attacked by a killer rabbit, and then he parted his hair the other way, and then the Iran hostage rescue fiasco.

Nice guy, but not presidential.

He was the first US president I'm old enough to remember. My first recollection is him giving a speech/answering questions about SALT Treaty in his expressionless, crazy low-key talking manner. I thought "this is the most boring thing ever"
But, I do respect him...seemed like an honest and honorable guy

Someone's been watching Christmas Story.
A true story about Rush. I was listening to his show probably a dozen years before he died or whatever it was, out of pure entertainment factor. He came on and said that he personally, and for his business, preferred it when the Democrats were in power. He said it's so much easier to be on the offensive, and attacking, than it is being defensive all the time. It was better for his business, more ads and more viewers when he could attack rather than play defense. I was thought that was interesting. Bonespurs and the cult are going to find out about that in the next 4 years.

I heard him say that many times, too.

This is already well known. Same goes for HROT.

Imagine spending 100 years doing good, through sickness, through old age, through the death of your wife. Giving back on some of the most profound ways possible. By far the most giving president ever.

Then some dipshit compares you to Rush.
My uncles once told me "life's a bitch in the fast lane."

Might have been one of the best ex presidents in history. Unfortunately not a great president, however he held on long enough to see his title of worst modern president surpassed by Biden. Carter knew if he could just hold on long enough someone would knock him off his perch and Biden answered the bell in a huge way allowing Jimmy to go in peace.
Actually he was a pretty damn good president considering the effed up mess he inherited from Nixon and Ford.

The worst modern-day president, and for that matter the worst president of all time, is Donald Trump who trashed one of the most basic tenants of our democracy (the peaceful transfer of power) with his reckless attempt to overturn the results of an election.

I recall the leftists on this board taking trash about Rush after his death, so as they say, you reap what you sow.
Rush? As in Limbaugh?

Surely you jest. Considering an entertainer equal to a President? Only if you’re talking about the future president.

Limbaugh was an entertainer, making money from his sardonic humor. If you believed him, I am sorry for your ignorance.

President Jimmy Carter was not ashamed to be a Christian.
Fortunately, he not only talked the talk, he also walked the walk.
His post-Presidency work for Habitat for Humanity was a great
example of helping others. Great man who left an enduring legacy.
Real Christian’s do more than go to church and carry a Bible on Sunday.
Real Christians live the life every day.

Did Carter ever hawk Bibles when he was in the WH?

Say what you want about his presidency. He was the most honorable president and did the most good post preident. If he wasn't president probably couldn't have done as much good post president.

One of the reports is he still lived in a very modest home. There were 2 homes on the property. One for the SS detail and his house. They were both about the same size.
