Josh Ogundele had one question for fellow Londoner Gabe Olaseni: "Is Coach McCaffery really crazy?”

wut.

“I think that my support is not just for what he has accomplished..”.

What has he accomplished? What?!! Please be specific.

“Finding another coach that can come in here in push us to the top of the B10 is a long shot...”

lol

In what world is Iowa “at the top of the Big Ten”? Since when is a four way tie for fifth place “at the top of the Big Ten“? WTF is wrong with some of you?

Good lord!

Come on, you're smarter than that. What he has accomplished: He took a program that was in the tank, he turned it around. The Hawks had a pretty steady upward progression until that stinker a few years ago. He has recovered from that season to put us in a great position going into this next year. He took a team this last year, that suffered significant losses due to graduation and injury and did one of the best coaching jobs in the toughest conference in the country. The only way a person could think otherwise is if they're just a hater. He has run a clean program and managed the student athletes very well.

You lol at finding another coach that can come in and push us to the top of the B10.....name him! Who is it that you have in mind that you know can accomplish that and that Iowa could certainly get?

Who said Iowa is at the top of the B10?

You're an embarrassment.

Sure, fella.

...because I don’t defend the antics of a sub .500 lunatic and his obnoxious wife?

lol.

I notice that you couldn’t answer the question.

What exactly has this man accomplished in 10 years at Iowa? Now THAT’S embarrassing.

You wouldn't understand.

By the way, your wife is no saint, either.

What steady progression? That 5 way tie for third was his high point so far and that was years ago.

You seem to be confusing the fevered predictions of a few sportswriters and assorted homers with actual achievements.

No thanks. I’ll wait until this guy actually earns higher than a seven seed or actually makes the second weekend of the tourney to start defending his crap like the MSU fans do for Izzo.

You wouldn't understand.

indeed I do not understand.

gotta give it to you regarding my wife though. She indeed was far from a saint. Can’t argue that point. Lol.

So, do you think that we can get Izzo to Iowa since that is your example? Of course we can't/won't. But since that's your standard and they have to "prove" it before you will support him I'm still waiting on you to answer the question that you still haven't answered.....what coach are you going to get at Iowa to meet your standards?

I don’t want Fran gone. I just don’t get why people try so hard to defend his crap. The comparisons to Izzo were made by people here. Favorably. Lol.

I merely pointed out that Izzo has earned his passes while Fran has not, imo.

The most significant thing he has done in ten years here is not be Todd Likliter. I’m not going out of my way to try to rationalize a pass for that. I’ll continue to call out his crap for what it is because I value the image of the university over Fran McCaffrey or any coach really. And to be fair, I do think Fran has toned down his act considerably since the low point of the mother f*cker incident. I hope it stays that way. He’s too old of a man to continue to play the horse’s ass.

Steady progression in the B10..2010/11 started with a 10th place finish, then 7th, 6th, 6th, 3rd, 3rd, then the fall off that I mentioned to 5th, 11th, then another turn around to push us back up the ladder to 6th, then 5th this last year. This last season we were tied for the 3rd highest win total in the conference that put us in that 5th place tie....all while dealing with the guys leaving and all of the injuries. He has us in a position to push to that top level this next year.....a shot at doing something we haven't done in 40 years....but you won't support a guy until he proves that...

Being as objective as I can....your reasoning matches the fair weather, what have you done for me lately, type of fan. It's the same thing that fans were saying about Kirk before his undefeated season....

We have good coaches, who have a high level of integrity. They are good people. That is another key reason I support them.

I’ll definitely support the effort. I won’t go out of my way to rationalize idiotic behavior or pretend that he has accomplished something he hasn’t.

That just doesn’t make sense to me.

and as for your “what have you done for me lately” comment, dude... if after ten years your highest accomplishment is a 7 seed and a multi way tie for third... it’s more like what have you done for me ever?

I get it. You’re impressed by his body of work. I’m not. Reasonable minds can disagree.

after year five, you have to offer more than not being Todd likliter. JMO

you want to chase down officials and call them cheating mother f*ckers with impunity? How about you make a sweet sixteen or at least win two games in the BTT first? Until then, you’re just a giant horse’s ass and the fans defending you look dumb. Again, JMO.

I can agree with that sentiment 100%.....but your tone is definitely overboard in the other direction.

Think of it this way....IF we get everyone back and healthy, some national folks (not Iowa people) have said that we are a top 10 team...some a favorite to win the B10 title.

Granted that isn't done yet.....but as an Iowa fan you could certainly recognize that as an accomplishment (just that recognition)? And wouldn't you want to support that coach in those efforts at least until you see otherwise?....instead you are very sternly asserting your dislike of the opinions for those that do support him.

Again... nothing has been achieved yet. Sure I hope he gets it done in year 11. If he does I’ll defend a few mild instances of jack ass behavior. Until then his body of work hasn’t warranted that from me.

There are posters here who will tear others apart when others point out the obvious, that Frans freakouts have hurt his and Iowas public perception. I'm proud of Fran reeling it in quite a bit. Hes a better man for it, and hopefully future recruits wont have to ask such unflattering questions regarding his mental-emotional state.

Meh, I took a lot more from the story than that.
Players look to other players before making that conclusion.

Many of the top coaches have and have had those issues - heck I remember some really awkward Bobby Knight moments.

Looking forward to seeing what this kid can do with some conditioning and a little more time learning the game.

I can’t believe the lengths that some fans will go to to defend a coach who’s under .500 in the league after a decade. Izzo might be crazier but at least he wins league titles and goes to Final Fours.

Our three NCAA wins in ten seasons guy gets suspended for calling an official a “cheating mother f*cker” (pure class there) and people are falling all over themselves to defend him. It’s nuts.

What in the holy sh*t has this guy ever accomplished at Iowa that makes some fans so willing to embarrass themselves defending his antics? Did that 7 seed four years ago really make that much of an impression on you guys or was it the back to back five way ties for third place?

Seriously. What is it?

im guessing the main reason is because people don’t want to be seen as agreeing with you.

It’s hard to compare Fran with Izzo but if you seriously like Izzo more than Fran I will not agree! Izzo let’s his players rape girls for crying out loud!!

What difference does it make how much you’ve won. If a coach is getting on a ref that ref shouldn’t take it easy just because you’ve gone further in the tournament. That’s a bunch of bullshit!

Ogundele looks forward to Iowa arrival

@hawkeyereport

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a particular impact on the life of future Hawkeye Josh Ogundele. The 2020 recruit is from England has been living in the United States for the past few years, so being away from his immediate family has been challenging.

“It’s hard not being around my family, but I am kind of used to it now,’ he said. “I talk to my family every day and check in on them and make sure they are doing ok.”

Thankfully his immediate family are healthy, but he did share that an uncle who lives in New York has the virus, but he’s fighting it and doing ok.

While many high school prospects saw their season come to an early end, the 6-foot-11 center was able to complete his senior season at Worcester Academy. His squad finished the year with a 20-12 record this year and he felt he had a strong senior year.

“I felt like I had to get in better shape this year and I did that and was able to play more minutes this year and continue to develop as a player.”

Ogundele said that Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery came out to see him during the season and also the Hawkeyes sent assistant coaches to see him play.

One thing has also did this year was pay attention to his future teammates at the University of Iowa. He said he watched about seven or eight full games during the year and he was obviously watching the play of Hawkeye big man Luka Garza, who was the Big Ten Player of the Year and a consensus All American.

“Honestly, I really didn’t even know much about Luka before the season, but when I watched him play, I realized how I need to get stronger in my lower body. He could really finish around the rim and he can stretch the floor,” he said.

There could be a chance that Ogundele might play his freshman year with the All American big man. Right now, Garza has not given any indication as to if he will declare for the NBA Draft and not return for his senior year. The 2020 recruit says he would welcome the opportunity to learn from Garza next season.

“I would love it if he came back,” he said. “I think it would really help me to learn from him, but if he’s not, then I just have to learn from what he did last year, so it would just be a different way of learning.”

Ogundele is currently staying with one of his prep school teammates riding out the COVID-19 pandemic and trying to get in some basketball work at a local park, doing some running to keep his conditioning up, and finishing up his prep school work via on-line learning.

He spoke with Fran McCaffery last week and an assistant coach this past week and the plan is for Ogundele to arrive on the Iowa campus sometime in June.

“They told me they hope to have me on campus in early June, but with the way things are, they aren’t sure about a date yet.”

I beg to differ ;)

There are two key characters in this story: the player that is compared to Zach Randolph and the coach we have all watched for 10 years.

Why the **** are you guys talking about the coach?

Looking at this dude’s tape again... wow. Iowa doesn’t typically get dudes like this.

But hey! Side note: Fran’s anger management. What’s the latest news there?
