Kirk apologists... sell me on why he should stay past this year?

Ohio State has lost 7 conference games in the last 12 years. Of those Ryan Day has lost only 3 during his time at Ohio State, all of them to Michigan, but yeah let's overreact to everything. If we had Ohio State money and Ohio State talent then I would scream about it.

Again, nobody was expecting us to beat them. Including Kirk I'm sure anymore. Just saw something from Scott Dochterman, from 2008-2021 Iowa was 8-8 vs top 10 teams. A 500 record which is pretty damn good! And we only lost one of those 8 by more than 10 points. Since then we're 0-8 with the average score being 34-9. So no, we're not overreacting. Indiana has totally rebuilt their team in 1 year. Vanderbilt, a bottom 5 team of all time, just beat the number 1 team in the country. Yes, Vanderbilt. We now are lucky to get first downs or score against a top 10 team. But sure, everything is ok w/the program.

I'm sure the guys involved in converting the fake punt truly appreciated his calling the timeout as the play was snapped and took that achievement away from them.

.... and then the punter shanks a 22-yder the very next play.
And then osu immediately runs it for 21 following the punt, negating the entire "risk" that KF thought he avoided. So frustrating to watch.

Oh I know a ton of people who do not frequent this board I could have this argument in person with. I'm just tired of hearing their voices I thought I would come here and see if I could hear from someone new from that (insanely wrong) side of the argument here.
I am in the 'the grass aint always greener,' camp, but Ferentz has made it clear he micromanages and doesn't want to adapt. He clearly has a tight leash on Lester and it is frustrating as hell - imagine being Lester.

That being said, he has so much respect around the country and the NFL. I get the feeling us fans want change and then change is going to happen and we're going to be like shit this is worse. Who do you get. And no, don't say Bob Stoops or Urban Meyer. Names like that aren't happening.

In reality, we have lost to ISU, who is apparently a top-ten team (not in my eyes) and OSU, who is as good as advertised. I don't think we're out of this yet, but Ferentz inability to adapt is tough to watch.

It isn't my job to hire the next head coach. Plenty of teams find hungry coaches who know what they are doing. If Beth is as good as we think she is she can handle it. I just want effort. I'm tired of this path and I want off and I'll live with the results if we are showing we are willing to try and take the next step.

Vanderbilt played an absolute perfect game. No turnovers, etc.

I'm old enough to remember when Chuck Long shits his pants in Columbus and left his heisman hopes there and that was a pretty damn good team that year.

Not sure where I said your job was to hire the next head coach, just asked who you would get. If Kirk is done after this year and they hire from within, are you going to be OK with it, or does there need to be new blood?

I'd be fine with SW.

Kirk is set in his ways. Not a good game day coach. Does not have an expertise anymore like being an offensive line coach. Doesn’t do a great job of recruiting or developing quarterbacks. He has surrounded himself with some good assistant coaches. But I do not see projections of team getting better with him staying head coach. Sooner or later we have to change. How long do we continue to score 10 points or less against good teams. This trend will continue until Kirk steps down.

Exactly. This is why people complaining about others not contributing to Swarm are baseless. Even if we did all pay, regardless of amount, does anyone really think Kirk would use the money properly? Hell, the people we know that have been purchased don't even play or have played too much because they're not even worth whatever amount was spent on them.

Sorry, I'm just not going to trust a guy with "donations" that can't even figure out that he should be playing Charlie Jones more or that he should utilize Hockenson and Fant to spread out a defense properly or how to evaluate a QB after 50+ years of experience or that everyone is right about his son and he shouldn't be an OC right away. The list goes on and on with examples. People can think highly about the guy all they want, I'd expect the worst coach at any level of college football, to be able to see things that I, a regular fan, can't. It shouldn't be the other way around.

He's a good man but damn, he's a horrible game/clock manager with very limited understanding of how to use his personnel properly. Yeah, no thanks on donating my limited funds. Maybe KF should start donating to it more. He probably has more than enough to make a dent in NIL.
Not to be the "well ack-tually" guy, but Kirk's salary isn't just all for him to spend at his leisure....NOR are any coaches allowed to use their salary towards NIL.

It's one of the few things that actually is illegal with regards to NIL, not that I'll also say it 100% isn't being done by any coaching staff in America......................

Minor nitpick that I wanted to clarify for some of the readers.

Lol I'm not giving names because that's pointless. I am just saying I don't care who it is as long as they show a commitment to actually trying to win football games and not being scared little bitches I will be happy. I don't care where they come from... internal...external...the moon none of it matters one ****ing bit to me just actually try to win.

And? They controlled the clock. Over 40 minutes of possession. Because they have a QB that can actually make plays. How you continue to justify the way we play now just baffles me.

Doesn't UNC Charlotte have like a former hedge fund manager as their coach. Deep pockets.

1,000% No
I would be ok if Lester is elevated to HC , He has HC/OC and some NFL experience and at WMU ran a modern offense with running QBs and was not neutered by a 70 year old Coach who still thinks leather helmet football is a winning ticket in 2024 . Iowa needs to open up the offense and have a more aggressive HC to compete, Iowa's defense can only get Iowa as far as a upper mid range B1G Team , Youi hire from outside the current Staff You would have to dig very very deep into the Boosters pockets to get a new HC who is coming from a successful P5 job and at Iowa I do not see that happening.

IU hired a coach from James Madison. Think outside the box.

That win against USC back in 2019 was pretty fun.

They were were in absolute shambles at the time but we did some fun football stuff we pretty much never see any more. Good times.
They weren't power house USC, but "absolute shambles"? They were 8-4 coming into the bowl game. That was a solid W for the Hawks.

As for Kirk staying on, if he stays, he's staying more than one. Next year is a big rebuild. He'll get a free pass on one shitty season. If forced to predict, I'd say he leaves after 2026 and his second .500 or worse season in a row. 2026 could get ugly...realy ugly.

Their #1 QB was lost in season opener.

USC dropped some early games which led to “Fire Clay Helton” all season.

lol. **** the Swarm. It’s a waste of money. They should be asking for donations from the millionaires playing on Sundays from their experience on Saturdays in Iowa City. They should be “TheSwarm” not fans who are forced to overpay for a mediocre product.
If you don't donate then you have zero right to criticize the team or coaches. You are part of the problem, those who belong to SWARM are part of the solution.

Yes. They also won 5/6 coming into the bowl game (loss was to a top 10 Oregon team). Not what USC fans expect but hardly “shambles”. It was a good win for the Hawks no matter how you slice it.

You are part of the problem also.
As are you. It’s an easy game to play.

I will not be held hostage by an old fart that profited millions from the crappy big ten west.

He would have been long gone a long time ago if Ohio St Penn St and Michigan were on the schedule every year.

NIL should have been for corporations that wanted to do commercials. Instead it’s a bunch of people that have so much of their self worth tied to the W L record of a game they are willing to give their own money away in the hopes of improving it.

Donating to NIL screams pathetic to me.

We are not talking about donating money to DIII.

Words aren’t going to change the product. Actions will. Stop donating to this crap so that we will can collectively see positive change. Until we have someone at the helm with the ambition and desire to recruit an exciting offense, spending money and energy on this crap is wasteful and only prolongs the pain of being a fan.

Because fielding an offense that can score more than no points against OSU’s first team defense is too much to ask of any college football coach.

“Aw shucks. We’s just poor little old Iowa.” - KF

Case in point:

Lickliter didn’t get canned because of fan discontent. He got canned because everyone stopped showing up.

Before 81 Iowa was traditionally a 4-5 win program over it's history. Why aspire to be something we had never been before? Because the point of competition is to aspire to be the best.
The WORST fans are the ones who don't aspire to be better. They are what is wrong with Hawkeye athletics. I personally think they are I-club/Athletic department plants to execute KF's number 1 goal at Iowa: LOWER FANS EXPECTATIONS.
Once that is accomplished, you can convince idiots at the U to pay someone 7 million to deliver the most boring product in P4 football.
100% agree.

For reference I would much much much rather suffer for 2 or 3 years than deal with this shit for one more game. Go!
To have a 2 win season next year. Perfect way for this guy to go out. He doesn't deserve any better.
