Full disclosure. I grew up a PSU fan but as an adult, I became a straight wrestling fan and I love Iowa, I COME IN PEACE please don’t attack me.
I’m curious for everyone’s thoughts on Ben,
I thought at this point he would be a little more separated from some of the lower ranked guys like Luffman. Obviously there was a huge size difference there, but I thought Ben was the better wrestler. It seemed like if he would’ve created more wrestling exchanges he would’ve won the majority.
Curious for your guys’ thoughts on Ben’s progression and where he may end up. Is he just too small at this point? Or is the development curve just a little slower for him at this point? Obviously this was his first year with a full wrestling focus and I do fully expect and hope he gets on the podium. He seems like a great dude and I wish him nothing but success

I suggest opening any one of the 25ish threads where this is being discussed. The board has a search function to help you out.

This is Spooner's version of a "welcome aboard."

Weight is a factor but if he can do what he did at the end… he can do it in a match. Live and learn big fella.

I’m tired of weight being blamed for his performance. It’s between the ears. Time to bring in the thought doctors that Ironside was talking about (despite not believing in them).

you will see a different band after his lungs get blown out a couple more times. Anybody that’s crashing on him right now. I was gonna be eating crow here in two months. He’s a top five guy definitely this year assuming no injuries.

spot on regarding more exchanges.

he put on some good muscle/weight in the off season and just my opinion based on observations but i think he is still getting used to wrestling at that higher weight. an example that comes to mind is when david Taylor moved up to 86kg.. He has talked about how it takes some time to get used to your body and trust your gas tank at the higher weight. i think by march kueter will take care of guys like luffman no problem. if they meet at big tens i got Ben by 2 or 3 takedowns.

HWC needs to bring somebody in for Kueter to train with. He doesn’t have any big guys on his level to push him in the room. This is why Cass also developed slower than his competition. I know Ben can put on more pounds, but I wonder if football is keeping him under 240? Pay cox to come train for two months!
2 months? Nah pay Cox to be a full time coach. Hes a been there done that outside the program guy that would bring in new blood.

Unfortunately Cox can hardly walk. Cass reached his max imo. It could be here with the best partners in the world and it's not going to make him taller or longer.

Didn’t he recently weigh in at 250?

Makes me wonder about D Ross as well. He’s virtually untouchable and only a junior but he’s s 220 lb like Ben was Can Ross get to 197 or is he gonna play football? Doesn’t seem like hwt is in the cards

Michael Mocco should be the choice. He will weigh 250 as a true freshman is a great hand fighter, actually shoots double legs at a 220 pounder and is a mental warrior. I can see him being a 2x NCAA champ.

Have watched a number of Kueter matches, some thoughts. Kueter has very limited leg and hip power/strength. Hip and leg strength are a principle platform for generating power forward; lateral, backward; rotation; and for balance. In my view, all these qualities form an essential founation for combative athletics.

Seldom see a powerful hip elevation/explosion from Kueter. Think back to Matt Fields. And try not to think of Steveson, or Kerkvliet.

Good point on the weight! I totally agree. I fully expect Ben to be on the podium in March. I still think is upside is crazy high. I honestly expected him to be more around the top level by now. not gable, but that next tier maybe kerk or Hendrickson, but I still think it can happen.

He has gained the weight he can, his lanky frame makes it tougher. I don't see any way football would be saying stay below 240.

IMO Ross will be able to bulk faster than Kueter if he chooses 285. He is also a more fluid wrestler.

That makes no sense. I’m not dogging on BK—he’s very talented—but I’ll bet you whatever you want to wager that he’s not a top5 guy this season.
