Kueter

BK is gonna be a load for everyone this winter.
From the article linked above....

Masoumi is as talented as they come at this level, and his size was a factor here. Kueter was in on a couple of single-leg shots, but the Iranian put down his heavy hips to stall out the action. While Kueter's offense was on full display in Spain, it was in the final match where you saw how talented, bigger heavyweights could be a thorn in Kueter's side at the moment.

Ben looked to be about 240 maybe 245 and Masomi weighed slightly under " Holy $hit !! He is Huge! " ben can be him if he concentrates on heavy hands and after he wears him down a bit then some sweep singles or perhaps some ankle picks. Masomi's hips are his strength and a straight on shot is exactly what he wants you to do. Work on angles and head fakes to wear the big guy down a bit and then push him... see what he has left in the gas tank and keep the pace high and vary the attacks. The loss sucked but it was a good learning experience and Ben needs to learn from it and move on.

I’d really be surprised if Kueter was anywhere near 245.

Kerk is 245 and he’s still a lot bigger than Ben

For the dual on Feb 9th, Kueter weighed 229.9 and Kerk weighed 245.6. Kerk was 254.4 for the first dual against Lehigh on Dec 3rd and 242.2 for the last against Edinboro Feb 25th. His low was 240.4 on Feb 25th v Nebraska's Hutmacher who weighed in at 283.2. I don't know what Kerk weighed for B1G or NCAA.

well I would definitely agree with that . they say the television adds 10 lbs to a fellas appearance so I will plead that defense in this case. Hell if I even walk by the Refrigerator I gain weight and the pantry or beer fridge always adds to my dilemma so lets say the Big Ben just needs to get BIGGER and put 245 lbs as his goal and GO HAWKS

I really think Ben will be the biggest surprise on the team this year. That is assuming that someone of his caliber can be considered a surprise when he does very well. I think he will learn a lot in the first 3 months of the season, and may lose a couple matches along the way, but come tourney time I think BK is going to be a legit title threat. There are some hammers at HWT that might keep him from the top of the podium this year, but watch out after that. He sounds mentally a lot like another pretty successful Hawk and he was pretty good for the Iowa program!

"I tell you what, I like what's under the hood with Ben Kueter," Iowa wrestling coach Tom Brands said last January.

Kinda wish the big guy had worded that sentiment a little differently.

If Keuter has a really good year, it may be enough to keep him in the room next year.
In 2026 285 really opens up and depending on how this season goes he could be the favorite to win the title.
It would make the decision to return to football a lot more difficult.

Perhaps someone can explain why it seems to be difficult for Ben to put weight on? I coached a a couple players who walked on at IA as a LB and lineman. After their first semester, they gained 30-35 pounds, by years end another 10-15. One about Ben’s the other 6’2 195.

It will be difficult for him to play LB at Iowa if he doesn’t get to 245-250 and have the lateral speed to play the position. I don’t see him getting big enough to play on the line.

This isn’t meant to be a knock on Ben. He’s a gifted athlete with a great discipline. If he has to fall back on wrestling, it’s not exactly a heartbreaking story.

My guess is that its harder for him because he's already so developed. He's not exactly a ball of clay to be shaped by the strength coaches

I wrestled 197 my freshman year of college and wrestled the rest of my college career at heavyweight. Was about 225 my second year and gained 5 lbs of muscles each year, finishing my senior year around 235-240. It's hard to handle too much weight gain in a short amount of time for a sport like wrestling. Football is a bunch of 5 second plays and wrestling is 7 minutes of cardio, so rapid bulk doesn't usually work out well. Believe me, I tried.

Anyway, I believe Ben is doing the right thing, pacing the bulk job. With his frame he can gain close to 10 lbs of muscles each year and finish this season at 240 and his career around 255. Would best to perceive him as a project with tremendous upside.

Iowa’s LBs are more in the 230-240 range. Higgins is arguably the best LB in the B1G and he’s 232. The other starting LBs are 231 and 238.

I didn’t take the time to research and was not aware of this, thanks.
