Latino Trump voters: “he’ll only deport the bad ones.”

Of course I'm skeptical we'd try to return 20m people all at once.
The numbers were already posted for what this looks like at just 1M/yr

And the costs were way beyond what we have in anything budgeted. Which paled in comparison to the economic costs.
For many industries, the labor provided by illegal workers is "the bottom of the pyramid"; you eliminate that, and the problems resonate upstream.

Thereby putting peoples lives at risk for those who have truly legit claims…

How very Christian of you.

We should do what we can and do that correctly,.. Attempting to do the impossible, and destroying yourself in the process, is a fools errand...

They also don't understand 1) that many "illegal" immigrants are those who have simply outstayed their visa - often due to an immigration system that lacks to the resources to process requests in a timely manner; 2) most of these immigrants are not violent; 3) the sheer scale/expense/consequences of any such deportation effort.

Seriously - of one sort or another, and depending on who you believe; there's 10-20 million immigrants here illegally. American law enforcement does not begin to have the resources necessary to handle that; so now you're going to have to use the armed forces...that's going to go over well with american citizenry i'm sure. And as someone else mentioned, where are you going to send them? Just drop them off at the Rio Grande? What if Mexico refuses to take them?
I thi no it will be in stages, maybe only getting through stage one. Stage one will be deporting any non citizen who has committed a violent crime, grand theft, simple assault, drunk driving. Now the question is, do the family members go with this person? If they are non citizens, yes. I think that’s going to be it based on the scale and cost.

Think of this as a recycling program. Out with the criminal element, allowing more non criminals to come.

What I'm trying to understand is where these people are going to be deported. How are you going to force foreign countries to take these large numbers of people? Do a Nazi "Madagascar plan" or something?
Haven’t you heard? There’s a large island of floating garbage in the ocean. Prime property from homesteading. Alternatively we send them all to Puerto Rico.

You’re assuming we CANT do more than we are already.

First, not how Trump has sold this.

Second, we already deport migrants who commit crimes.

My bad, I meant even in their previous nations as well. This will also be part of vetting. No one gets in who has a violent or drunk driving past. As far as Trump selling it different...you and I both know he's a ****ing blowhard.

And they'll have that handy Fox Terrorist Chart as the "vetting guide"...

So you think foreign nations are just going to accept planes full of what you are telling us are criminals to land and be deboarded just because the U.S. would like them to? What happens when Nicaragua and Mexico and Venezuela tell Trump to piss up a rope and close their airports to reverse migrant flights?

You're assuming that we need to do more than we are already,... We have lot's of problems of our own to deal with. We cannot save the world, nor should we destroy ourselves trying to do so,.. The fact that we can do more, doesn't mean that we should.

I mean, after all, your family got here and was allowed in. Now we should shut the door and say f---k you to others seeking a better life or fleeing death and danger.

What a beautiful American patriot you are.

Honestly, I'm sure there will have to be negotiations, and if some of these committed crimes in their homeland, maybe they end up in detention there. My guess is we can impose some sort of economic sanctions that would further cripple those areas while at the same time imposing an emergency border closure. sort of a pay to play deal. Work with us or else.

Repatriation agreements currently in effect,.. Next step number one, we should automatically refuse entry to any asylum seeker originating from a country that has no repatriation agreement with the US...

Open to only those who want to work and better their lives. At the same time we have to weigh the cost to our citizens.

Considering we have millions already awaiting hearings, for people that have been doing what they’ve been asked while an overwhelmed system falls farther and farther behind. Those people shouldn’t be deported because our system was inadequate.

If they’ve committed a crime - by all means, deport them. If they haven’t, then they should be allowed to stay until they’ve had their hearing/outcome.

If you think that takes too long then yes, we need more resources to help them catch up. I assure you it would be cheaper than rounding them up and deporting them.

What the US has needed for decades is a full revamp to our immigration program. What we have received by politicians is a bunch of finger pointing and most recently rampant fear mongering. Unfortunately, we are now regressing where the wrong people to fix the problem are in charge. Even tho they control all the levers, anyone want to predict if they will fix the problem or just sit on it as a tool to move voters?

Of course not,.. Those in line for an asylum hearing should have their case adjudicated as quickly as we can accommodate them.,.. The fact that Biden phucked this up so severely shouldn't further impact their plight...

It getting worse now is simply the culmination of a decades long problem. Trump has shown zero interest in fixing that.

With continued congressional inaction Trump at least made use of the limited tools that were available to him to fashion a border fix,.. Biden came in and promptly dismantled those fixes and declared the border open for business,.. Now Trump has to put the short term fixes back in place, clean up Joe's mess, and then attempt to force congressional action on a long term solution.

In no way shape or form could you argue Trump fixed the border.

FYI for those who still think it's bluster and bullshit:

Stephen Miller, perhaps the most rabidly anti-immigration (legal and illegal) voice in Trump’s first term, will quarterback Trump’s policy agenda as deputy chief of staff. The New York Times reports that Miller’s portfolio “is expected to be vast and to far exceed what the eventual title will convey.”

Miller will be aided by Tom Homan, Trump’s former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, whom Trump has now tapped as his “border czar.”

During Trump’s first term, Homan was most notable as the intellectual father of Trump’s most controversial immigration move: the “zero tolerance” policy that separated thousands of migrant parents and children in 2017 and 2018. Ripping families apart, Homan told the Atlantic in 2022, would help discourage other families from making the trek: “Most parents don’t want to be separated.”

Today, he’s setting his sights higher. Last month, a CBS reporter asked Homan whether it would be possible to carry out mass deportations without separating families. “Of course there is,” Homan replied. “Families can be deported together.”

The subtext here, of course, is that many illegal immigrants have U.S.-born children who are American citizens under the 14th Amendment. But Trump has also promised a day one executive order “ending” the constitutional doctrine of birthright citizenship, daring the courts to stop him.

Last night, Homan appeared on Fox News for an interview with Sean Hannity, who floated a possible way Trump could make his deportations at least appear more humane: Why not encourage illegal immigrants to self-report for deportation in exchange for some cash to help them restart their lives, and the possibility of a pathway to return legally within a year or two? Homan didn’t bite. “The ones that want to go home on their own—they found their way across the world to come to the greatest nation on earth. They can find their way home.”

Biden negotiated a major improvement to this in legislation worked out with Republicans.

Trumpers, like yourself, are who decided to toss that out.
Don't blame Biden for what YOU did here...

I want to congratulate you on the thought that went into this.
I mean which country that people are fleeing from wouldn't want to make a reparation agreement so that their citizens could come here?
"Hello senor.... would you please sign this agreement or we won't allow the people fleeing your government entry. Why are you laughing?"
