Lazy hawks

Well when your best offensive player is lazy on defense you really have no options. I mean if we take Jok out of the equation on offense, we are really 1 dimensional and easy to guard.

Defensively our biggest issues is not necessarily individual players, but our "team defense." Our rotations are horrible and when a player gets into the lane, EVERYONE collapses on them and leaves shooters or weak side open. The key is learning to rotate and hustle and close out. Last night I don't think I saw one Iowa player close out with a hand up. They just run at them half @ssed. Also not allowing your guy into the lane. The problem is teams pull our post players out away from the basket and then we hedge, which gets our team very "top heavy" on the defensive end and leaves the baseline and basket wide open. Communication and inexperience is the reason you see these type of mistakes. It will get better.

I saw tired, on the road, not lazy. This was going to be very tough for us to win and I think Fran knew it going in. NW is pretty good and the offense they run is tough for us to guard against. Uhl is obviously hurt so we're playing all freshman up front. I don't put too much into this game other than it may wake a few players up as to what really needs to be done to be good in the BIG.

Hand down man down, so many times we close out on shooters and don't even bother putting a hand up.

One of the biggest things Ive noticed is how slow we get back on defense. The most obvious one I've noticed is Cook. I love the kid but watch him slow jog down to the defensive end, it's maddening. For a team who loves to push the pace on offense and attack a defense before it can set up, you would think there would be more emphasis for our guys to prevent that from happening on the other end.

Lost, lazy, tired, inexperienced, its all true to varying degrees.

You can sum it up with, they dont know how to play defense.

We had a pretty decent defensive team the last few years but those 4 seniors came into the program with a pretty good grasp on defense.

Fran is not a defensive guru, that much is apperent.

I think they just ran into a good team on the road who played lights out. Iowa looked young and tired on Sunday. It was one of those games that snowballed and got out of hand in a hurry. Iowa cut it down to like 3 and then NW hit like three 3's in a row and it was over.

I look for them to bounce back and play much better against Maryland. This is what I expected from this team this year. Beat some teams they shouldn't and get blown out a few times.
NINE Freshman- or Sophomores played significant minutes the other night along with Jok. NINE.
