Lineups Settled: ISU v. Iowa: Who Wins?

I’m not sure how people can say hwt is a toss up. Realistically the bastard has the experience and won some big matches in his career. BK has great accolades but so far he’s untested in college. Just trying to look at it without my hawk fan/ fack states glasses on. It feels gross tho
I wouldn't say untested. He did face the national champ last year and held his own for not starting until football was done. He got his redshirt matches in.

blah blah blah...but you must have a simple mind if my small screw up on eligibility made you laugh out loud and actually prompted a response.
Brother, after some of the “insider” stuff we’ve seen thru the years of course it’s going to prompt a laugh. Don’t be so thin skinned. We’re all friends here. :)

Haven’t read the whole thread, but I thought ISU had their best chance last year and choked - at least the coaches did. I don’t see Iowa sweating this dual at all
ISU did have their best chance last year, but this year's Clone team is better than last year's squad.
That said, at this point, it seems Iowa's team is also better than last year's team.
Given the projected lineups, right now, Clones are not heavy favs at any weight.

Well leave it to Spooner to be a dik! Except for the fact that he had 0 competition and didn't practice, he is no different than a true freshman. And, take a look at post where I broke the news on OSU and Jordan's OWI, Winchester getting kicked out of club, Ech refusing to go 141 and Swiderski coming out of redshirt to make the weight for a huge payday. Just because I didn't engage in "window" debate doesn't make me now "somewhat of an insider." And I can tell you where M. Mocco is leaning but not my news to share! But, for the record, it doesn't bother me whether you consider me "somewhat of an insider" because my point remains. Block being considered over Swiderski/Ech nothing more than fan optimism. You should be calling out the idiots making those posts.

133 - Frost
141 - Swiderski, and Jacob Frost will get a bunch of starts because of the weight cut
149 - Ech
157- Johnson - style-wise, its a toss-up, and Teemer doesn't put up big points.

If you weren't at nationals and didn't see Frost, I can understand why you wouldn't think 133 is a toss-up. He was also weighing 170 this offseason and is a HUGE 133. I live out of state and talk on the phone to several of the coaches. What do you call that, an outsider? And give me a break, I am somewhat of an insider, even my Inner Circle jacket says so!
You have clearly posted some "insider" wrestling information on here. As much or more than just a small handful of posters. Mostly non Iowa related. It's not outrageous to say Block is similar to a true freshman since he didn't get the typical RS year on the mat. Most of the posters who attack you have never had a significant post.

On a side note is there any other negative rumblings out of Ames or Stallwater?

What specifically are you referring to when you say my "insider stuff", friend?
Not anything specific. Just through the years many people who I perceived to be people in the know turned out to be people who appeared to not know. So now I take “insider stuff” with a grain of salt and often get a laugh with it. I’m not trying to pick a fight, though I must say every once in a while I wouldn’t mind a good scuffle, I’m just enjoying the portal for what it is…5% great info, and the rest a lot of hopes, dreams, trolling and bullshit. And I’m happy to be a part of it all. :)

Only thing I have heard is that Carroll is more "work" than others on the team, and that Taylor is going to have some tough decisions next year when the roster size is limited to 30 because he's signing a bunch of talented kids that are not quite superstars. And yes, I know some Iowa stuff too but, as has long been my stance, I'd rather share the insider stuff of other schools, not Iowa....because our forum attracts fans from so many schools. I reread my post 3x out of fear I'd be attacked for a minor typo and not something substantive

Oh be careful. How dare you say that someone from another school has the upper hand. As an Iowa fan you are not allowed to be realistic. That's the only thing I hate about the board - as Iowa fans we are some of the best and most educated about the sport...but it's hard to be objective as a fan on here because you will have to defend yourself with 20 replies for anything you post. I have to learn not to take the bait.

With regard to insider stuff, I am sure Riggins still knows what's going on in the Iowa room and Voinovich knows what's going on at OSU, and Woods still knows what's going on at Iowa.....that said, sometimes you can be an insider but feel more comfortable not sharing insider stuff about your alma mater. In my opinion, the ones that know about other schools are probably the real insiders....sorry vhalum!

IF that's the matchups...to me, that's a best case scenario for Clones.
In Carver, I don't see them winning four matches.

This is just an honest question. Did ISU or any other school try to recruit BK? When did he commit to the Hawks? I'm just curious. My memory doesn't go that far back. 😞

Nelson is going 174.

Le Sigh.
Yeah I heard that last night!!! He is supposed to have a wrestle off with Gabe. Not sure where that leaves PK. This doesn’t sound like what’s best for the team where the loser has to go up a weight and be undersized and under muscled. Ugh

Loser won’t be wrestling undersized. Angelo Ferrari will be wrestling 184 if Brands is not

Personally, I think if someone like Brands wants to stay a 6th year — he either goes where the school wants/needs him to wrestle or he finds another school to wrestle at. You can’t afford to potentially lose an Arnold or Ferrari.

Remember, Minnesota let McKee come back for a 6th year and they lost Spratley. Now Minny is without a 25 pounder

Nelson said in the summer he was going 174 and they were going to figure it out. Angelo has 5 dates they can use while the loser gets up to size, or maybe Angelo is the best guy and he’ll go as a true freshman. Iowa needs their best lineup on the mat this year either way.
Idk how to feel about this. I’d rather have Gabe wrestling, seems most guys don’t peak after being in school for 6 years. Well ok, no I do know how I feel, I hope Gabe puts it to him. Make Nelson go up and challenge there.

Unfortunately or fortunately I don’t think Gabe can beat NB; that would be another nice problem to have.

I mean no disrespect to NB but I’ve never been that impressed with him. Defensively sure he can hold his own, but I’m hoping Gabe has more offense in his arsenal, I know Gabe is tough to score on as well. Just seems like an overall tougher out come march.

I’m good either way. Like most, I just want our best 10 men out there. In the NIL age I really don’t think you can sit your studs for a year, unless you’re completely loaded like PSU. If they’re the best at the weight then let it fly.

The o ly reason I disagree, is one year of at most 2 points more worth 3 years of eligibility? Only if Gabe is OK with losing a year of eligibility or going up a weight (this we already know is not what he really wants). If Gabe is against it and transfers out who is gonna be there. No one as good as Gabe for at least two years unless you keep on chugging along the train of one year rentals and less team chemistry.

Agree with this 100%. 4 years over Gabe Arnold over one year of Nelson Brands is a win. If Brands wins 2-1 in wrestle offs and Gabe gets frustrated to the point of leaving, Hawks lose big time. Brands has had his chances starting at Iowa.

Nelson wanting to come back is great and all but he can come back and wrestle where the team needs him, to give them the best chance as a team.

And then he'd have to beat Kennedy too. It's amazing with this round robin. Kennedy is probably the best on the mat and has the best motor and tons of experience, Arnold is a beast defensively with explosive offense; and Nelson is the strongest with good but limited offense. If we could only merge them into 1 wrestler. With all those matches it will likely be low scoring and a one point match.

If he’s that unimpressive to you, why are you so concerned about him beating out Gabe?

Put another way, if Gabe is behind someone so unimpressive, what does it say about him?

Can you attend weekday practices? I attended a couple of them in the old facility, but I want to make sure before I go down. And what time would be the best time to go? Thank you.

Question on Nelson brands?
The year he took 5th he was like the 11-15 seed correct? Why is he an automatic aa seems like he just got hot during ncaas. Or am I missing something?

Better question: who’s calling him an automatic AA?
Cesspool when discussing lineup.

Brands: Top 3
Buch: Top 3
Big Ben: AA
Top 3’s all have pretty damn good shots at finals and even winning it.”

From different thread.

With KOT, Haines and Hamiti all moving into 174 I don’t see Brands as an auto top 3. I see him behind those guys above and in a group with Devos, Welsh, Wolak, Pinto. But he should be viewed as an AA at 174 in my opinion.
