Lineups Settled: ISU v. Iowa: Who Wins?

Cesspool when discussing lineup.

Brands: Top 3
Buch: Top 3
Big Ben: AA
Top 3’s all have pretty damn good shots at finals and even winning it.”

From different thread.

One guy makes a prediction = the board thinks he's an "automatic AA." And it didn't even happen in the thread you're questioning people in.

Solid work.

He is trying hard to troll us without making it blatant.

i have said I think he's an AA. I think he will be a hammer, but he's got to stay healthy. That being said, I think he should go 184 as I think he'd still be a hammer there. Gabe/PK can sort out 174. Seems pretty simple to me I guess.....

I wouldn't want to see Nelson win and then Gabe goes somewhere else, which seems to be the norm in this day and age, instead of putting the work in and earning it. Gabe doesn't strike me as a person like that, but it would be another year not on the mat for anything meaningful.

Rock and a freaking hard place.

We need finalists points.

Top 2 at 174 is KOT and Levi.

Top 2 at 184 is Starocci and Keckeisen.

It's an uphill swim to get in the finals for either weight.
The best chance at finalist points would come from one of these weights having messed up seeding where the top two were on the same side. Unfortunately for Brands I don't think there is a way to predict how NCAA seeding will work out this far in advance

With KOT, Haines and Hamiti all moving into 174 I don’t see Brands as an auto top 3. I see him behind those guys above and in a group with Devos, Welsh, Wolak, Pinto. But he should be viewed as an AA at 174 in my opinion.
Agree.

Nelson has a chance to be a 5-7th.

Guys with no offense can easily lose 3-2/4-3 matches at Nattys.
To this point, that's how Brands wrestles.

Is it odd that I feel NBs best chance for a win against those 4 is the one going for his 5th national championship?!
That's why Star has four of them. He's a great wrestler and he lulls people into believing his more vulernable than he is. From my foxhole that's why he won it all last year; his opponents went in to those matches thinking he was damaged goods and easy prey and it didn't go well for them. Come NCAAs - and really every match - we need to prep for our opponents to be coming in at their very best and then we need to give it our very best.

What? Star downplays his talent? I assume you mean his style of wrestling on the mat.

Another thing to consider. Over the last couple seasons, how many 5th or 6th year seniors have underperformed at Nationals. It seems like most, if not all of them, underperformed compared to their seeding or expectations. Some were due to injuries, others just did not seem like their head was in it any longer.

This will be NB’s 7th year in college and 6th year of wrestling in college after taking the last year off. He has been an AA for only 1 of those previous seasons. Does everyone really think NB should be penciled in as an AA at either weight?

I could easily see him being a R12 guy this year.

Yeah, others have already gone down that rabbit hole a few times. You’re late to the party. :)

Yes

Spencer Lee didn't look too banged up to an untrained eye for a few YEARS either. The size of the brace cstar was wearing says it was pretty banged up.
He played the competition and it worked perfectly. It was once again one of those Cael knows how to prep for NCAAs. His competition acted like they were wrestling an injured man and it bit them in the ass.

I have heard Angelo is the best 74-84 wrestler in the room.
If this is true and It may very well be then he needs to be full go asap at 184.
This also means we have major log jam at 174, So two of our 3 potential AA’s at this weight may be sitting out which sucks.
Nice to have deep pockets though, lets see how it plays out.

He 100% percent was banged up bad at NCAAs. His largest margin of victory was 6 points and was giving up takedowns to guys he never would have before the injury.
Guys, I'm not saying he wasn't injured but I am saying he played his opponents to a t. They all wrestled him like he was badly damaged goods and in the end that jedi mind trick worked against all of them. And I'm not taking anything away from Star. Hell, he beat Kem after Kem beat him at B10s, and that was huge. But I am and will forever be saying that he played possum big time. 2 former NCAA champions wrestled him like they didn't want to hurt him instead of wrestling him to win...and we all know how that went.

Thoughts on the dual…

125: isu is actually a pretty big favorite for now
133: Ayala should be fine here. Never lost to Frost
141: with Swid coming down makes it interesting that’s a lot of weight and early in the year. I still lean Isu here mainly because Block is basically a true Freshman.
149: Hawks are a slight favorite
157: Hawks should be favored but Teemer normally starts the year slow.
165: Hawks BIG favorite
174: Hawks favored who ever it is.
184: could throw Ferrari out there depending on how the dual is going should be favored whoever we throw out there.
197: Hawks easily favored
Hwt: yes on paper isu should be favored but I really believe Ben is going to shock a lot of people.

Bastida dinged up and will miss a few weeks. Hope he is healed up and ready to go by the 23rd. Would be a great measuring stick match for Kueter.
