LOL Nebby

Every time I watch a Nebraska game this year, I spend most of the time thinking, "Is this Mike Reilly thing serious?"

What does this guy do??? Every time he is shown on TV, he's standing there with his hands in his coat pockets, not talking to anyone, not doing anything.... At one point today with 3 minutes or so to go, he had taken his headset off and was just holding it in his hands, and looked like there were a million other places he would rather be. I'm no expert on body language, but wow did he look like a guy today that either is having serious regrets, or already knows he's canned after the season.

I hope they keep him for a long time. He is their Lickliter.

omg, that last line nearly made me choke on my own laughter. In fairness, both Purdue and Nebraska outscored most Lickliter teams.

If the analysis involved "playoffs or nothing," I'd agree. But that's not the end analysis. Not even close. There's a game in Pasadena that Iowa hasn't seen since 1991. Call me crazy, but that's an awfully attractive consolation prize.

And, let's face reality, the decision between a one-loss Iowa team and a one-loss MSU or OSU will have a lot to do with whose resume is more impressive.

If you can't see that, I've got nothing to add.

I see your point, but I'm not an old dude that still thinks the rose is the ultimate destination. The landscape of college football has changed. IMO winning the BIG matters and making the playoffs matters. Beyond that, don't really care what bowl we get. The bowls are a joke, jmo.

What's frustrating is that you know their record is not indicative of their talent.

I thought that after a few loses, but not now. They just lost to Purdue, becoming the only conference win for Purdue so far this season. Nebraska is officially last in this division right now.

Neb loves to talk history...

First time in their school history that they have 6 losses before November. You have to go back to 1958 or so to find a neb team this bad.

At some point you have to say that it is... indicative of their talent.

GO HAWKS!!

The Rose Bowl isn't the ultimate destination. It's the College Football Championship Game. If you don't care where Iowa plays if it loses a game this year - fine by me.

Do I care? Absolutely. Why? Because I had the chance in '91 as a first-year law student to go but I hardly had two nickels to my name. Figured they'd get back soon enough. 24 years later .....

I've done the Orange, Outback, CapOne, Holiday and Alamo bowls. If Iowa doesn't get picked for the playoffs, then I want them in Pasadena. It's on my bucket list.

Even more important, getting the national exposure of playing in the Rose Bowl will help with recruiting. Falling to the Citrus or Outback Bowl with a 12-1 record doesn't help recruiting. That simply screams "second-tier" program.

Finally, there's a roster full of guys in Iowa City that are killing themselves to have the best possible season. Pretty sure that none of them would consider a Rose Bowl invitation to be a joke. They'll be excited about it. Big time. And, let's face it, it's more about them and the program then it is about whether you could give a rat's ass about whether Iowa is playing in Pasadena on January 1.

I'm starting to think Riley could be one and done. Considering the standard Nebraska holds itself to, I just can't see them going 4-8 and giving him an opportunity to sell this to recruits. If they line someone up, they just might pull the trigger.

I read one Neb poster on another site mention the prospect of major offseason changes this year for the Huskers. If they decide to flush the Riley experiment, this might be the worst year to do such a thing. There are so many major openings already (IL, MN, MD, USC, SC, VT, Miami, UCF) and several more on the horizon (possibly, Purdue, Indiana, KSU, Georgia) - that if you thrown Nebraska into that mix, the market for a big-name hire just isn't going to be very favorable for them.

I think they might be forced to take in another year with Riley...I wasn't around for the dark ages of Iowa football, but we might be witnessing their version of Commings/Lauterbur (history in the making).
