Lunardi has #6 Iowa playing #11 UNI in Tampa

That would be fun. Know the area well after all the trips to Outback bowl. Crazy prices on hotels.
Spring break causes hotel rates in that area to go through the roof. I was down near there in March a few years ago and a motel was close to $300/night.

I'll take the 6 seed. Anything above the 8/9 would be a good outcome.
Not that I have a problem with a matchup against uni, but it would seem odd for the committee to take the only two teams in the field from a small state and put them against each other. (assuming that drake and isu don't somehow miraculously make it in).

UNI is having a really good season the last I saw. Are they really only going to be an 11 seed?

This is a matchup that would truly suck. The in-state rivalry would virtually negate any advantage you'd expect from rewarding a quality team with a 6 seed, and it be a slam-dunk to be one of their top upset alerts that they'd tag on Selection Sunday.

I'd like to continue playing UNI on at least a semi-regular basis, but not in the tournament like this.

I could see maybe second round since we stopped playing them, but yeah, no way first round.
There's been a couple times where Iowa and Iowa State could've run into each other in the NCAA tournament, but it never worked out.

I'd have to look, but I do think there's at least one year where they could've been 2nd Round opponents had both won.

IF UNI continues to win, and sweeps the MVC, then yes an 11 seed is possible (maybe even higher depending on the Bubble teams).

I think if they take on another loss or two, or only win the MVC tournament, then they're looking more at a 12 or 13 seed.

I like the seed....but hate the match up and for cripes sake, can we EVER get a first round game near us? Before anyone says, "well play better to get a better seed", take a look at Ohio State at a 7 and playing in Cleveland!? WTH???

NCAA has been doing more and more matchups like this lately. Guaranteed if Nebraska and Iowa State ever make the tournament at the same time they will be on a path to meet.

Worried that JBo would want to hobble out there to get another shot at Green.

Iowa would never be paired with an in-state team in the first round.

And shouldn’t be

I would hope that you are both correct but the NCAA has a flair for the dramatic with the tournament. We all know that compelling matchups take priority over correct seeding. Wasn't it just a few years ago that Cincy, Ohio or Dayton made a big fuss about Ohio St. not wanting to play them and what do you know... First round matchup.

I absolutely could see this matchup happening if the two teams are close to those seeds (5-12 or 6-11)

Times Iowa could've met ISU in the NCAA Regional bracket:

1986- had both made Sweet 16, both lost to NC State (f*** those guys, I guess.....)

1992- Regional Final, both lost to the top 2 seeds

2015- Sweet 16

Yep. 1986 I believe the game would have been in KC. Roy Marble missed 7 free throws in 2 point loss to NC St. Iowa and ISU both played in Minneapolis. Great time.

isu isn't even going to sniff the NIT this year. Maybe that other tournament for lower level conference teams.

I’m pretty sure Kentucky just played an instate school 1st round recently.
Kentucky-Northern Kentucky
Louisville-Morehead-St.
Alabama-South Alabama
Ohio State-Dayton
Kentucky-Western Kentucky
Penn St.-Temple
Baylor-Sam Houston St.
Those are just the ones that stick out. Probably more. Found a few more.

Based on NET and RPI this game would be considered a toss up. Jacobson has another team that may give more talented teams fits. Also, not sure who would guard Green?

I watched UNI beat a very good CU team in Boulder.

UNI is the real deal & they look the part in person.

There might be a lot of posters on here that have been talking crap about Green in hiding if we have to play those guys.

Say UNI goes 5-2 in their remaining regular season games winning the regular season championship. Then wins their conference tournament. They’d be 28-5 (14-4). They would be higher than an 11 seed.

There was a time in the MVC that would get them a 5 or 6 seed. Now they may be rewarded with the 8/9 line.
