*****MAGA in disarray, who will be speaker of the House***** McCarthy REMOVED! Jim Jordan 0-3. Election denier Mike Johnson confirmed. Vote them out

I have to wonder whether they're meeting behind doors, getting promises to vote for McCarthy just to see how much they can make him dance and then voting for Mickey Mouse just for the hell of it afterwards to make him look stupid.

I mean he's got to realize that group is never going to vote for him at this point and they're just doing this to get their own faces on tv. When do you start working to find someone else to nominate who you can work with and who you can convince at least some of the 20 to vote for? Or is that 20 going to refuse to vote for anyone unless they are a fully vetted treasonous snake as well?

You would think after 3, 4, 5th time, and they state he isn't the guy, he'd realize it was never going to happen. But, he is very likely like most of them, he thinks he is smarter than the rest of the room and he can get what he wants. But he is surrounded by people who think the same about themselves.

You know Boebert thinks she is knocking it out of the park every time she talks. They all think that, so why would Kevin be any different. Unrelenting overconfidence.

I actually think if they split and the left side (of the split) was more open on equality, boarders, abortions, and gun control, then they would actually grow to the majority as they'd steal from the democrats. As a liberal I don't want everyone coming over the boarder but I also don't want to deport dreamers. There is a party needed in the middle and I certainly would be open to it.
100 likes for this. If the Republicans would simply lighten up in the social warfare and tax cuts for millionaires I’d be down.

100% agree. This has been needed for years. I have always thought the middle was overlooked and underrepresented.

edit - maybe I need to reevaluate MY definition of "moderate" "and middle".......
According to one right wing poster here, the only moderate Democrat in Congress is Joe Manchin. That's right, the other 50 in the Senate and all 212 in the House are far left progressives. That's how some rationalize the idiocy we're seeing now out of the GOP.

I want to be a United States Representative. Clock in at noon. Do nothing but play around on your phone for 5 hours. And clock out. For a man as lazy as I am, even this job seems doable.
Yeah. But that’s still more than Santos was doing prior to now. He looks lost and all he’s doing right now is voting twice a day.

No they won't, candidates and GOP voters still gush over Reagan every campaign season and that was the entirety of his political philosophy.
Yes. People keep saying that "Reagan wasn't conservative enough to be elected Republican today." That is true to a point, but misses the fact that Reagan's catchphrase philosophy - "government doesn't solve problems, government is IS the problem" - has been the core element and key to just about every republican campaign of the last 40 years and is exactly why we see current MAGA republicans' working to destroy our entire system of governance.

I blame the primary system. When basically only the extreme participate you get extremist candidates. Throwing in gerrymandering and we have a mess.
I would advocate to eliminate party based primaries. Everybody competes in the same primary regardless of party and ranked choice voting.

Ya know...at first I wasn't so sure about this winger talking point. But as it turns out I'm loving this democracy thing not dying in darkness. I too am pleased it's all out in the open.

MAGA = mental illness dude

Damn, I step out for a bit and Donald's isn't even on the ballot anymore. So much for disproving that he was only there as a prop, Rs.

McCarthy should just negotiate a no-lose proposition and then decline it when he gets 218.

See, this is where I diverge. I think there are some extremists everywhere (and some concentrated crazy (Matt G in FL)), but many who are middle ground (but it is certainly to the right of the old middle ground). And if the GOP keeps having the extremists undermine the party as a whole, does the party step in and try to weed out (try to primary out Boebert etc.). I just don't see the GOP allowing the minority to have an unfettered ownership LONG TERM now that they see what happens when they are in the majority.

Again, the dog now caught the car, they are seeing what happens, do they change the party approach? You obviously say no. But, I do expect that in 2 years, if we have had no progress, folks will flip back and Blue gets the majority back.
I think the problem with your optimism is that many more than the 20 or so holding this up are perfectly happy with grinding the government to a halt. This isn't good for the country in any way, shape or form.

I imagine this cluster$@#% is somehow the Dems fault?

Because if they hadn't put up such good candidates last November, we'd have seen that Red Tsunami I heard so much about.

This is quite entertaining as I watch the Republican Party melt before my own eyes.

This is the most fun I've had since Person Woman Man Camera TV.

SNL just got their next skit.

A Schoolhouse Rock bit would be cool

I just checked back in, did they really nominate Trump??
