I don't think the word 'sane' and today's Republican party have any commonality. This is the party of MTG and Boobert and Santos and Jordan and Gaetz. The list of those not appearing sane goes on and on and on.
I don't think they have any sane choices. First requirement is to keep your own caucus in line. No R can do this.
I don't buy it. Compassion and empathy do not come with an on-off switch. You either have these human characteristics or not. They're not endemic in right wing politicians' personae; the lacking ingredients of civility.

If there are any responsible Republicans left, they should help elect a Democratic speaker of the House and end this. I'm sure the Democrats would be willing to enter into some kind of power sharing arrangement, this is what corporate media would be demanding if the shoe was on the other foot, "childish Democrats have illustrated once again they can't govern....blah blah blah", they can't get their act together so responsible Democrats need to cede power to Daddy party Republicans blah blah blah......"

This may sound like a trite conversation, but it is spot on. The Republican's Speakership has been on thin ice for decades which is an indictment. If they can't coalesce on leaders, how can they come to terms on matters involving inevitable philosophical or ideological differences within.
Beyond this there has been a drastic deterioration in the quality of Republican political representatives in the House with increasing radicalization and extremism.
